Well Brian Michael Bendis has a run on Guardians about to start that, as far as I understand it, is mainly to help initiate people into the series.

heres a broad overview:

theres a better reading order somewhere. can't remember where i saw it. you can just get all the annihilation-related trades and supplement them with whatever GotG issues arent already included. start with the Thanos mini.

I'm rather confused, is GOTG going to be about Thanos, or Avengers 2?

What are the chances us seeing S.W.O.R.D. being formed in this movie or in the possible future of marvel films?

I'd think pretty good too, yeah. Especially considering that SWORD is a Joss Whedon invention to begin with. I'd say Joss now has enough oversight in the MCU to populate it with some of his own creations from his comic-writing days.

Bit late to the party hehe

Anyways, GotG is on top of my Must-see Superhero Movies In the Next 5 Years List. If Marvel can pull it off (like they did in Avengers) then they won't have any competition IMO.

I want SWORD stuff to show up in the SHIELD series, too.

Bet my butt Carol Danvers turns up in that show, and ends up in avengers 2 at some point

That would be great, and it has been suggested before. My only question is, what actress would be both high profile enough to gain interest in the character on the big screen, and also willing to sign a contract that has her showing up on network television? I don't know if that list would be large or small.

Yvonne Strahovski hopefully

It doesn't need to be a high profile actress, just a good and suitable one

In the future? Pretty good. In this movie? Probably not so great.

There's a lot of stuff to cover here. Maybe a hint of something.

I mean it really depends on how this movie leads into Avengers 2. Is it directly involved? Is it just something that happens before it but has no real direct connection.

True. I guess I mostly just assume it'll tie into Avengers 2 through Thanos doing his Thanosy stuff in space, and not so much during the Star-Lord Earth-based origin bits. Maybe that's the wrong assumption

The other question I would have is rights. Joss created SWORD for the X-books, and i believe that's mostly where it's appeared. How much of that stuff does FOX own?

I doubt any of it when it comes to SWORD, especially since it was created after the fact.

A bunch of the characters that were in First Class were created after the fact, so I'm not sure that really matters

It seems to me that primarily IM III will lead naturally into CA:WS while T:tDW will lead naturally into GotG. That seems like the natural progression of "playing off of each other" anyway.

What do you guys think of GOTG being host to a Thanos origin story? Given what's going on in the comics very soon, and how this movie could be setting up Avengers 2 or 3, it's just a possibility.

I, for one, prefer for there to be more of a shroud of mystery surrounding Thanos as tension builds in his rise to power, but could Marvel be going the other direction?

I doubt there will be the time to do a Thanos origin in the movie. the character will already be established. I guess the only real origin we will see is Peter Quills with a lot of background information for the other guardians

Yeah, I'd be willing to bet that Quill is the focal character of the movie. As a human being in a very strange and literal alien landscape, he acts as the guide for all of us in the audience who don't know a thing about this franchise. We learn as *he* learns. That's not going to give any room to bring up anything other than broad brushstrokes for the other characters' backstories.

It really depends on the language in their deal. I mean, that would be one hell of coup to gain rights to characters that don't even exist yet for example. If its "We own all mutants" then yeah SWORD with Agent Brand would be an issue.

Do you think we'll see the Avengers in this film? I really hope not, but what got me worried is the speculation that Guardians will set up Avengers 2/introduce Thanos etc. That, and for some reason Iron Man is in the new GotG comics. Plus of course someone like Iron Man would bring more people to see the movie.

Hopefully they'll keep Guardians and other cosmic stuff separate from the Avengers...at least for now.
