Farce and exaggeration. Frigga's funeral went on for a good 5-10mins. Same for Loki's death ..... they played that music and showed Thor/Jane hiking across Svartelheim before they got to the cave and Jane made that phone call.

Joss Whedon said it best:

“Make it dark, make it grim, make it tough, but then, for the love of God, tell a joke.”

While I agree with you, I think the comedic moments in TDW were misplaced, and I blame it on Alan Taylor since I doubt he really knows how to jiggle between drama and humor very well. James Gunn, on the other hand, seems to be better at it than Taylor did.

Sometimes I wonder what people are actually expecting. Do they actually think these characters are going to sit around and lament for a while afterward? No, because these aren't high dramas. They show the grieving in the moment. Then they pick up the pieces and carry on with their struggle.

Preach.

Yes, there were some that were misplaced. I will not argue against that. But not in those particular examples given. You can't show a 5-10min Frigga death/funeral scene and then have Thor laying around pouting for another few minutes. We had plenty of time to sit there and feel the brevity of the situation the moment she died and as she was being cast off into the stars.

The humor after moments like that is like trying to cheer somebody up who just experienced something horrible as opposed to sitting there wallowing in it.

Totally agreed.

I think the moment that I have the biggest problem with is the one where Darcy and the intern kissing each other while the Dark Elves were swarming the place. But the truth is the last act was handled extremely poorly, from the final bout to the resolution of that battle. It really ruined the goodwill that built up in the previous acts by ending it on an uneven note.

Oh I agree. I actually just posted about that in another thread. When Malekith arrives in London is where the humor starts getting really bad. The scene where the hammer flies by and Darcy says "Meow-Meow" is the worst of it. Her and the intern became really annoying. Even seeing Jane and Selvig run around from the Elves was bad.

So stoked for this one homies, less than a week for me since I plan on catching it on Thursday this up coming week. I always try and catch the first showing. I plan on going with my roommate on Thur, then my best bud on Friday, then I will go with my other good buddy and his kid on either Saturday or Sunday. Also going to try and go 3 times the following weekend as well. I can never get enough Marvel!

James Gunn:
Dude, I really, really think Star-Lord should kill Iron Man. It would be so awesome if he just came down, and shot Tony Stark in the face. People would be so surprised!"

Chris Pratt:
Marvel will never use any of my ideas, so this isn’t a spoiler, but in the comics, Tony Stark and Gamora have a little thing – and how does Peter Quill feel about that? And he’s all like, "I don’t like it" and then Rocket hears the "I don’t like it" and so he shoots Tony Stark in the face?! That would be awesome! People would be super mad, but it would be kind of great! Everyone would be like, "Why did you do that?" And Marvel would be like, "Robert Downey Jr. earns $100 million a picture and we can’t afford him anymore. Pratt works minimal wage and he’ll kill anybody."

I just noticed ....we haven't even gotten score samples yet, other than that one vid :( was hoping to listen to it online. When does it come out?

100% on RT after 22 reviews is great stuff, and i'm glad the humour seems to be handled a lot better than it was in IM3 and TDW.

Another poster was spot on when he said TWS got the balance perfect.

I think the nature of the business is that not every film you make will be great no matter how much you want it to be, I think we underestimate how freaking hard it is to make a movie, let alone releasing 2 to now possibly 3 films a year in 2018 while developing the next one and the next one all at the same time. That's hard man, and the fact that marvel studios has been able to maintain a range of quality that doesn't dip below "OK" is impressive add another notch on that belt with guardians being supposedly fantastic. And we all know Age of Ultron at worst will be as good as A1.

I thought that the after credits scene might be a version of an AOU trailer that will most likely be shown at SDCC and the reason they aren't showing it before general release is because all general releases are after SDCC that way it's an exclusive for those going, they get to see it first, then a week it'll be released with the film.

I also think there will be a mid credits scene... not sure what. There is a 'pre credits' scene which is hilarious and really cute.

That 'pre-credits' scene is actually the mid-credits because remember, there are no main-on-end credits, there are actual proper opening credits in this.

Prepare to come out of this movie with a massive nerdgasm.

I'm honestly debating if this movie is better than winter soldier and the avengers.

Seriously.

Saw the movie last night! I stood outside for 3 hours in the 100 degree heat to make sure I had a good seat. I got so roasted standing out there. I had really high hopes for this movie and it was better than could have ever imagined. Everything was perfect for me. The effects were amazing and beautiful. I felt like I was really on these planets. The characters all looked great too. I was so happy they made Rocket hilarious but didn't make him corny at all. Could be my favorite movie so far, but I'll decide once I see it a few more times.

That Whedon quote is in my signature.:argh::oldrazz: But yeah, I agree with you.

Sequel confirmed at CC, with Gunn returning to write and direct. :awesome:
