Yea Winter Soldier balanced the tone perfectly. But then again, a Cap film should be more serious than an Iron Man film. It all depends on the character.

Thor though... i don't think Marvel really knows what the **** they are doing with him. And it's a shame because for me, he is the Avenger with the most cinematic potential. But instead he's bogged down on Earth and his films are basically rom/coms. They need to let the character loose.

I enjoy the two Thors the least of all the MCU films. But they are the only ones my wife enjoys. The gorgeous, brilliant career woman with the screwed up social life, the daffy friend, the handsome prince and his bad boy brother, the physical comedy....they're chick-flicks, and as long as they pull in the box office numbers that won't change.

Not everything has to be serious all the time. The battle of New York was not serious but it was great. I have a feeling you're going to have a problem with GOTG. Good luck.
Oh for **** sake.

I already said that I love the humour in the Marvel films, I just want there to be more DRAMA when it comes to the villains.

I'm not advocating a humourless, angst-ridden tragedy like a Christopher Nolan franchise, I just want more emotional variance in the films I enjoy.

I have loved every second I have seen of GOTG so far and have defended it's humorous tone from day one.

Stop inventing my motivation behind my criticisms and coming to inaccurate conclusions, actually read my posts and learn to discuss things beyond "agree = good, disagree - bad".

It's the written ****ing word, you can go back and read my points if you're not clear about them.

Whoa Calm down. I didn't attack you but from what I read you saying about the humour and drama and I was to deduct that you won't like what they do with Ronan here because of a particular scene at the end. Even I was able to recognise that the scene was dumb and took away the intensity and seriousness of the moment. I should have been more clearer. My bad, Jesus.

I read your posts and I know exactly what I'm talking about. When you see the scene I'm talking about then you';ll understand what I'm saying. It's either you go with it or you don't. I was just basing it off what you said about things being serious when the hero and villains are fighting because that isn't the case with GOTG it's not serious like you want. That's ehy I said you're gonna have problems with GOTg because the film doesn't take itself seriously, so I said Good luck. Dunno why you threw a tantrum at me. But it's cool.

I understand what JAK is saying, but I actually saw the movie last night, and I think there is more than one type of moment he wants to see that he is describing toward the end.

TeeKay, didn't you say you were leaving the boards before? I wonder what changed your mind.

Also, FYI, if anyone likes Fifth Element, I think you will love this movie. It does feel like a spiritual successor to Fifth Element in a lot of ways.

GOTG happened. I said I'll still visit the forums every now and again. I was really upset by some things. Ever have one of those days where everything goes wrong? I had one of those.

I think it was more than that because you never really "left."

I think it is more that this forum ticks you off sometimes but you can never really stop posting here because it can be addictive and fun. Plus, it provides some of the better collection of resources and images whenever you ware looking for something about your favorite films. Sometimes you come here because if you are looking for something new, it can be quicker than looking on google.

As for JAK, I completely understand what you are saying and what you are looking for out of the film. I think those type of "holy **** a brick" and more serious moments will there enough for you along with the humor. I found it to be the most emotionally satisfying and complete film of the summer.

Here is something else. You know why I don't like the Transformers movie? Yeah really big action. Lots of explosions. But you don't like any of the characters. The plot and development is terrible and makes no sense. Writing is ****. Dialogue is garbage. Characters are horrible. In Guardians you actually like these characters and care about what happens to them. When they are going for humor, their dialogue is actually funny. Same thing with Avengers. James Gunn doesn't constantly undermine his own plot and characters with stupid, juvenile toilet humor left and right. And yes there is a great deal of humor, but when there is something humorous there is also usually something quite serious or grave that happens as well. He has matured a great deal from his days on Scooby Doo.

The movie's prologue is a rather grave and serious sequence. There are no laughs to be had. It's not the type of opening you would expect for this movie. Sort of like how X-Men changed the game with a holocaust scene in 2000. This does something that felt dramatically similar.

Nobody leaves this place. Nobody. Even if they claim they are they come back, either the same or under a new name.

Ok you're right, I never left. I still lurked for a few days though. Then started posting again. Them Spidey boards were really frustrating for me. But yeah, you're right, these forums are fun and addictive. Basically everything you said is true.

I disagree apart from Groot's 'big' scene, I didn;t find GOTG nearly as emotionally satisfying as Cap 2, TASM2 and GOTG. I think a lot of people are gonna have a problem with how [BLACKOUT]Ronan gets taken out.[/BLACKOUT]:oldrazz:

I think you are wrong about that scene because what you are referring to is not how he gets taken out.
It was a distraction.

Ok I should have rephrased that.
The moment they take him out was cool. that distraction was a take it or leave it scenario. It was dumb imo. Essentially all the power in the galaxy and the moment he's about to annihilate Xandar he stops swinging his hammer because he decides watching Quill dance is more important. Come on. It was funny I'll admit but I was like 'really'?

If you found TASM2 emotionally satisfying than GOTG is going to be damn Shakespeare.

I get what he's saying though. Many people here who..criticize some of the humor tend to be responded to in similar ways. That it's all black and white, which isn't the case. It's sort of like, you don't like the MCU humor? Then gtfo, these films aren't for you.

in my opinion more often than not, that problem is from the people trying to defend the humor, not the ones who display an issue with it.

I very well may be an MCU fanboy. Sure. But I have issues with some of the humor. I agree with a lot of humor complaints. Some times it just ruins a scene. In my opinion, there's no argument. For me personally, it kills it.

However it doesn't change my love for the films, or the general use of comedy in them. Nothing is perfect. And there is no be all end all of opinions. There IS most certainly middle ground. One can dislike the humor, while still loving the franchise. Absolutely. It's the people who jump all over "the complainers" who are causing the tension here sometimes.

my opinion of course.

Also Tee, just curious, what is your first language? Cause you have excellent English

Oh you mean like how the transfer case in my explorer went yesterday, and finding out that it's going to be a $1600 job today, with the knowledge that I need the car for Friday since my family is going on vacation and we are taking two SUV's?

I hear ya man. **** days suck.

In final battle of Thor 2 was ruined for me by Darcy and his intern. Good God they were annoying. That's the only humor problem I had with any MCU film. The others I've laughed and chucled.

Shona is my first language. My bro helps me my english and essays and what not. I'm not that good at it but thanks.

Damn! That sucks.

I didn't mind the general humor in Thor 2, though Darcy killed it.

And it's really not that bad...though...look at what I quoted...fixed for ya :woot:

Come on in the final battle, they took away from the intenstity of the fight. The mew mew thing was funny though.

Thanks, didn't even notice that.

Uggggh I hated that mew-mew part. It was so stiff and poorly timed. It's after that when the humor starts dragging the climax down.

Yea the humour at the end of Thor 2 didn't undercut the tension... because there was no tension due to the humour.

I'll be glad when we get a Thor film where he isn't bogged down on Midgard.

Oh, I mean Killed it in a negative way. Idk, I didn't mind the humor too much in the fight.

Iron man 3 was cringeworthy in my opinion. I felt embarassed cause of the people I watched it with. Like, the heroic moment when the mark 42 or whatever saves tony, then falls apart. I literally winced. I've never winced in a movie theater before, but for me personally, Iron man 3 was cringeworthy. Saw it once when it came out, haven't seen it since.

I thought Killian was a big enough threat. He was going through those armours like butter. And i liked his plot. It's basically saying "What if the US created a terrorist threat like Osama Bin Laden... to fuel spending on counter terrorism"

Killian was a Bond villain with super powers ( and a super powered army ). Nothing wrong with that at all.

Well we really have yet to see him doing his superhero schtick on his own on Earth for a full movie. I'd like that at least in one film. In Thor1 has was powerless for most of his time on Earth and with Avengers he was part of a group, and in Thor2 he was in Asgard and other places for most of the film. The ending of that film makes me think we'll see what I'm angling for in the next movie. Maybe have the Wrecking Crew to deal with and such. Maybe Absorbing Man. Thor does have human super-villains as well, after all.

"Darcy, Jane, Ian, Selvig, mew mew".:o

That scene got a huge applause and laughter from the audience. But yeah, it should have been taken out. I guess they did that so the suit would fall to pieces and have Tony send it to Killian. I'm sure they could have been other ways to do it though.

Mk 42 scene was great, loved the subversion of expectations.
