Haha awesome, it wouldn't be a Gunn movie without his lousy acting.

If anything, people are now just clamoring to find out who the hell is voicing Rocket. Well, if the comment section on AV Club is any indication:

Hee. Go Marvel.

I'm kinda drifting back to Moriarty -- I mean, McWeeny's scuttlebutt that Alan Rickman, Ken Watanabe, and Hugh Laurie were in consideration for a role in the film. I personally think they're the ones auditioning for Rocket (based on nothing whatsoever except a Magic 8-Ball)

Hey everyone, I'm new here but I have to say I love all these casting decisions so far. Is it wierd if I want them at some time (probably not for the first teaser) to do an action movie/Expendables type trailer where they just post the names one at a time up on the screen with a big "thump" going from the most action type actors to the least? I know they would probably have to go in billing order but I would love to see them start with Bautista and then end with someone like Glenn Close.

The casting for this film has simply blown me away so far.

I would also love to see Alan Rickman as a part of the movie.

However, my wishful thinking of say, Bruce Campbell as Rocket, would warp everyone's mind. Cast Rickman as Groot...the dialogue between the two would be sheer bliss. But hey, the reverse would just as amazing too.

Alan Rickman is great, but that voice coming out of Rocket makes me chuckle. Hugh Laurie though, that'd be awesome.

I shared that idea with my brother, now he's just making Snape jokes

Interesting. AICN has said they've heard the script is more in line with Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest than it is with previous Marvel movies. I wonder what that means?

I guess that it's more comedy than action whereas the other marvel films are action with a touch of comedy

I kind of hope they mean it's sci-fi comedy, not that there's more comedy than action. Also don't hope the comedy is so overbearing it gets in the way of the serious moments. That's one of my complaints with IM3. They went too far trying to make it funny and it just didn't flow as well as Avengers, which just naturally flowed with jokes and didn't feel forced like IM3.

Pretty much as expected. There was no way James Gunn was going to play this straight-faced. The idea is to create a fun space opera. (And yes, I fully expect the usual contingent of Batman, Superman and Spidey film fans to crap all over it for not being all grimdark. :o )

If it's anything like Galaxy Quest then that's a major positive for me. Galaxy Quest is to this day incredible.

I'm not sure I want that for this film though. I don't want this to be a farce.

Something akin to Ghostbusters is a great approach if that's true. Just likely on a bigger scale. I definitely expect it to be one of the funnier of the Marvel movies, with just the right gravitas. Black and Whedon can juggle tones extremely well, but Gunn pretty much marries them into one consistent thing. For example, Super is funny, sad, disturbing, uplifting, light & dark, and it all flows very well without any moment feeling out-of-place next to the others. That seems to make some critics' heads spin, but it works when pulled off well (also see: HBO's Eastbound & Down).

Yeah, I don't see GoTG being a farce necessarily. I think a movie like this has to have a sense of humor though... I mean, two of the main characters are a talking space raccoon and a tree.

There has to be an element of comedy, but also some gravitas. I think Gunn can strike a balance similar to what Whedon did with Serenity - except without the gratuitous, needless deaths!! STILL STABBITY OVER
LOSING POOR WASH!!

So I can see what they're saying about it being like Ghostbusters. I consider GB one of my all time favorite movies; it's aged tremendously well, and I've probably seen it about as many times as Star Wars or Indiana Jones. It doesn't go for cheap laughs; the humor is very much well-timed and within character, and it manages to build to a great third act too, but doesn't sacrifice the inherent humor of the movie or the premise.

I'm fine with grimdark superhero movies, but I love my fun superhero movies too. I consider both styles to be epic in a sense. Avengers and TDK are every bit as epic as I could've wanted but on different spectrums of CBM styles, which is why I love them both. If GotG can capture something like the Avengers did, but do it almost completely in space with obscure characters and a whackadoodle story, then I'm happy. (For the record, I don't mean the BO that the Avengers did, I mean the spirit of Avengers the movie, to be clear.)
