Sooo, exactly like the comics then? Awesome!

no it can't be like the comics.. people will complain!!! and then when they alter the material those same people will complain they didn't stick to the books!! :o

The comic was very much like Ghostbusters tonally so I'm okay with this.

I actually just remembered that Gunn tweeted this a while back:
Galaxy Quest is an amazing film that that should be mentioned alongside classics like Back to the Future and Ghostbusters.
So I guess it's possible that either A) He chose that approach and described it that way to someone or B) The source read this and sent it as information to AICN.

thanks for finding the tweet again Son of Coul...i thought i remembered him mention Galaxy Quest at some point...

I love all 3 of the movies mentioned however I was hopping for something more in the tone of Avengers. For those who think the characters cannot be done on a more serious movie there are instances where that type of character still works. Just because a movie is serious it doesnt mean it cant have funny moments. I don't consider Forrest Gump a comedy but yet it has some hilarious moments.

Having said all of that I'm going to trust James...the guy was a fan of not only Rocket Racoon when he was growing up but he picked up and enjoyed the 90s guardians of the galaxy series when it came out. Good to know there are others other than myself who enjoyed the series when it came out and still remember them :)

I recently went to a local comic con and got most of the 1990s series I really am digging it its really quite awesome, the fact that its very much linked to the normal Marvel U is great fun.

Gunn mentioned Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest, and that's what AICN's "source" mentioned. Why is this not surprising?

I don't really agree with the assessment that the Guardians comic resembled Ghostbusters or Galaxy Quest in tone. Any of the Guardians series.

How about 'action-packed space romp'?

Sounds pornographic.

I wonder if stan lee will get a cameo in this? It might be a bit disrespectful since he didn't actually create the guardians but it would be great to see a cameo from Abnett and Lanning!

Pornographic? lol.

Marvel Comics presents.......'Flesh Gordon 3'.

Stan Lee WILL have a cameo and I don't think he's had cameos just cause he created the characters he's the face of Marvel of course we'll see him. Hopefully as an alien maybe a Kree, or Badoon hahaha. Also he was in CTFA and he didn't create Captain America.

The cantina scene seems like a perfect place to sneak in Stan. I can't imagine him not appearing in this film somehow.

He didn't create Cap but he write for him for a while before Marvel was Marvel and brought him from WWII to modern times. Stan influences all! :D

That would fit perfectly; Just the right kind of vibe - Stan in make-up as an alien. :D

Stan created Groot :yay:

I'd love to see a cantina scene were stan is the bar tender. That has plenty of room conedically especially if he interacts with RR or Groot.

To those who are intimately familiar with the original iteration of the the team, is there a dramatic difference between the classic Rocket and the newer version?

Yes. A very dramatic difference. Rocket is non existent in the original iteration and existent in the newer version.

As Dark Raven said, classic Rocket was never part of the original GOTG; but yeah, there's a huge difference between the Rocket that existed before 2008 GOTG and Rocket as DnA portrayed him. Classic Rocket was little more than a whimsical character that existed out on the fringes of Marvel fandom. He was basically part of a quaint little fable about anthropomorphic critters who were basically pets/guardians of an intergalactic lunatic asylum. The whole miniseries was written and drawn in the style of a nonsensical Beatles cartoon like "Yellow Submarine" (and even featured quite a few references to Beatles tunes).

But when DnA got through with him, he was an ass-kicking rodent (marsupial? whatevs) with oversized big honkin' guns.

i'm not a fan of Bendi's version of Rocket...honestly he makes him sound retarted. He was much better done by DnA but I guess you could say that about most of the characters so lets hope with time either his writing grows on us or he changes how he writes the characters as he gets to understand them more
