Chastain and Hiddleston look fantastic in the trailer. I think Wasikowska and Hunnam are out of their league here but we will see. Not a huge fan of either of them but I love the aesthetic and the music. Gothic architecture is some of my favorite and to see it so heavily on display pleases me. The creatures also look pretty rad. Def looking forward to this.

Here's the trailer again if anybody wants it:

"His ultimate masterpiece" is setting a promising a lot, considering it's from the director of Pan's Labyrinth.

How is Hunnam out of his league that man can flat out act.

Have you seen Wasikowska's other movies? I hope you're not just basing it all Alice in Wonderland. She's a great actress.

Truth be told, I got nothing out of the trailer. A lot more special effects than I was anticipating, which isn't inherently bad, but the whole thing just sort of felt flat to me.

Gorgeous :wow:. Really reminds me of Coppola's Dracula . And that poster is just perfect :fhm:.

Looks ok. Doesn't look extremely original though.

Looks haunting, sexy and intriguing. Most of all it looks visually marvelous in a very genuine way.

I hope it's a return to Pan's Labyrinth form for Del Toro.

Yeah, I hope his co-writer ironed out anything with the translation of Del Toro writing in Spanish. If that can happen and the two can collaborate properly to craft something then it should be great. Otherwise it seems Del Toro is at his best when he is dealing in his native language.

The trailer was ok for me, more sexy than scary. The inclusion of PJ Harvey's cover of Red Right Hand was pretty sweet though. Would be cool if the movie plays out like a Nick Cave song in terms of atmosphere.

Part of that is also just a matter of the kinds of movies he has made in each language.

Thus far nearly all of his English language work has been made up of action movies.

I'll pull up a link but del Toro himself has stated that he is aware in the divide in his filmography and Crimson Peak is a deliberate attempt to make something more akin to his Spanish-language work in English.

One area that he said he is pushing himself on is including sex and sexuality.
In past films I've really felt his presentation of such things has been a bit juvenile. Part of that has been that he goes for such a fairy tale vibe but many of his films have either been very chaste or have operated with a 12 year old's understanding of relationships.

Yeah, with stuff like Pacific Rim it seems at times his best intentions, like more dialogue and character, seems to be lost in translation for the English screenplay.

I love the guy so I'm really looking forward to this. I just want a great big horror film again and I really hope this is it because Del Toro is the guy to do it. Horror seems like something he's most passionate about, therefore, I do think he can deliver something great with this.

Yea Del Toro understands that it's all about atmosphere. Pan's Labyrinth was something else. I remember before i watched it i thought it was gonna be a scary kids film. Then i got to the scene where the Captain caves the guys head in with a bottle... it was truly shocking.

The Devil's Backbone was creepy as Hell as well.

Visuals looks stunning... Hopefully the story is up to snuff. Looks a bit like Flowers in the Attic though... Still, I'm hopeful.

Hunnam sounds like he has a vaguely English accent here, which probably means he's playing an American. ;)

Plus it's a project he pursued, not something he jumped onto out of necessity when two major passion projects of his died.

The distinction between his Spanish films and English films may be over exaggerated. He ultimately loves balancing films that appeal to our inner juvenile, while others are more adult oriented. I'd argue his director's cut of Mimic is way more in line with Cronos, Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth then it is with Blade II, Hellboys and Pacific Rim. I read in his Cabinet of Curiosities book that he tried making Pan's Labyrinth in Hollywood originally. Spain just offers him the creative freedom.

I love that man, but his accents are a mess. Not only did his SOA accent not remotely sound like any of the other characters around him, but it sounded like he was going for some sort of New Yorker accent when the character spent his entire ****ing life in California. :o

And yet I didn't really care. He was great in that role. And to be fair, Ron Perlman didn't really sound like the other characters either.

Ehh. I listen to Clay, Tig and Bobby and they all sound like they've come from the same place, or at least have spent a long time around eachother. And then Piney and Opie sound like one another. Jax didn't really sound much like anyone else.

But yeah, Hunnam was still great on the show. Especially the longer it went on.

I never even thought about Hunnam's accent or any other character's accent on SOA until it was brought up in here. Accents aren't something I pay attention to in television. He and the rest (excluding Chins) sounded American and that was good enough.

I think Del Toro got himself an exceptional cast, filled with very talented actors like Hiddleston, and if the script is solid I don't see how this movie will not succeed.

I forget is Legendary producing this? If so, he's got a sweet deal worked out. I still need to see Devil's Backbone and even Blade II.

I hope it does. Del Toro is in a very rare position where despite his films never doing gangbusters, he always seems to get to make films he's wanted to make. The fact he got to do this after Pacific Rim flopped is great for him.

The sooner he hits it big, the sooner, At The Mountains of Madness becomes more of a possibility being made. Hell, I'll take Frankenstein.

Movie looks beautiful. First one I've been excited about in a while.
