Halloween Remake Thread... - Part 1

Just get Neil Marshall to direct and Sam Neill as Loomis. Done deal.

For the director, I'd offer the job to either the guy who did the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, or the Nightmare On Elm Street remake. I liked the visual style of those two movies, I just didn't like how they were written.

For Dr. Sam Loomis, I would get either Christopher Lee (who was offered the role back in '77 but turned it down, then was quoted as saying that it was the worst decision of his career), or Patrick Stewart (who aside from being a damn fine actor, also really reminds me of Donald Pleasance, in voice, accent, and mannerisms).

Christopher Lee is a thousand years old and can barely move. Not that stops him from making Heavy Metal records, though.

Yeah, I'm not so sure that a guy who turned down the role 35 years ago is the best man for the job now.

I hated Rob Zombie's Halloween. I hated the white trash route he went with the characters. And Halloween 2 was one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever seen.

I don't think anyone preferred that route. It didn't bother me so much but a friend of mine said his parents walked out. Zombie's films aren't for everybody. I hope he tones it down a bit for Lords of Salem though.

Well if the writers want Dr Loomis to try and lay the smackdown on Michael Myers like Roddy MacDowell in Rob Zombie's piece of crap, then no Christopher Lee isn't the best choice. But if he's gonna do the same as Donald Pleasance did in the original, drive after Michael and ask the local sheriff to help look for him, stand outside the old Myers house waiting for Michael to come home, walk the streets looking for him, etc, then there's no reason Christopher Lee couldn't take the role.

Id say the fact that he can hardly walk now is a pretty big reason why he wouldn't take it

Seconded.

Zombie's movies were awesome. Not as awesome as Carpenter's, but nothing is.

I didnt like that concept at all and not to mention the young boy playing michael looked like a girl and couldnt act to save his life. Thats why sometimes like in the Michael Myers case its better to just see them as stone cold slashers and not try to go deep into there origins. Its almost like people cant accept that someone can just snap and go on a killing spree, they want to know what lead to it and why.

I prefer the 7 foot guy who had a sh**ty upbringing compared to the force of evil crap.

Im saying its better to leave origins of characters to the audiences imaginations because they never live up to our expectations.

Mystique is overrated...just like the original Halloween.

When I heard about it I was like "Really? Who is left from Sidney's past who could possibly want her dead?"

At this rate, the next killer might as well be Sidney's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.

See I hate that, it's so I.D. channel and typical and not different and unique

Your wrong there my good man, My imagination is much more interesting then what rob threw up on the screen for 45 minutes. I always imagined this sweet little kid one night hearing a voice in his head on halloween to grab the kitchen knife and the rest is history. Its not for me to say if a movie is overrated or not but its like the star wars movies, I love them but can see why other people dont like them.

This problem came up for me in the jaws sequels, I kept think by the time revenge of jaws came out did the shark say "Im gonna get me a brody if its the last thing I do arr arr arr". The 1st worked for sydney because the revenge made sense and to some degree the 2nd for his mother wanting payback but for crying out loud in the 3rd we've got her long distant brother who is jealous because her mom closed the door on him and the 4th her little cousin wanted to be a youtube sensation of sorts. The motives just got worse and worse and I pray to god scream 4 put the final nail in the coffin on the franchise.

Agreed, 100% on all counts. Not to be insulting or aggressive towards Blackheart, but he seems to be easily impressed by torture/splatter porn.

See, I thought the motive in 4 was better than in 3. And anyway, those are parodies of the genre, so I don't mind the ridiculousness, as I always view it in the context of satire. The kid who wanted hits on youtube? Are you kidding me? This is half the teen population right there, just replace stripping in front of a mirror with killing people. And the girl on 4 was a legit b**tch, as opposed to her half-brother in 3 who was a little whiny b**tch.

The only thing I can complain about when it comes to Scream 4 is Cox's bottox job.

Here is what should be done with Platinum Dunes' remake:

1) Maintain the mystery of Michael's origins, just have him an ordinary kid who snaps and kills his sister.

2) Show scenes of his childhood leading up to his killing his sister, but without any of Rob Zombie's white trash bull s#!t.

3) Show Michael's years at Smith's Grove, but use Chaos Comics' "Halloween Issue #1: Behind The Mask" as inspiration.

4) Make Dr. Loomis obsessed with keeping Michael locked away, not a *****ebag who is obsessed with selling his book.

5) Keep the bodycount relatively low (I'd say maybe 10).

6) Keep the tension and suspense high.

7) Laurie Strode being Michael's sister should be considered an optional part of the story.

If the movie follows these basic guidelines, then it might actually be an okay remake.

Edit: Oops! I meant to write remake, not sequel. Fixed it now.

Sorry, I got spoiled by Friday The 13th.

Well the teen population may be all like that today with wanting to be youtube sensations but as good an idea as it was it was horribly executed and not to mention the laugh out loud moment when she beat herself up and it drew nothing but laughter in my theater. They had 10 years to hammer out a script and plot that was suppose to create another trilogy but what we got felt like wes cranked it out in 2 nights with no thought. The other problem I had with 2 and 3 was none of the main 3 died. Dewey especially outstayed his welcome past part 2.

I do believe that part was very much intentionally funny, to be honest with you. I will agree with you on the "none of the main 3 died" part. I half expected/wanted Courtney to die.

Dewey shoulda died in Scream 2.

I really like the idea of laurie being one of his victums that simply got away and he becomes obssesed with getting her. It would also be an interesting side story to where michael escapes once around the age of 15 and kills 2-3 people before being put back into smiths grove, then the state decides once he turns 18 they can put him to sleep legally. the night before hes to be transported to be executed he escapes smiths grove and returns to haddonfield.

I wouldn't mind if they just did away with Laurie, just bring in a completely different character and have Michael become fixated on. Not unlike the "Nightdance" mini series they did a little while back.

Dewey shoulda died in Scream 2.

Thank God I wasn't the only one who laughed at that.

I'd love it if they introduced Laurie in a manner that implies she's a big deal, only to off her first. And I'm not talking about the 5 first minutes of the movie.

Oh, and I can't recall someone not laughing at my theatre during that moment in S4. I'm pretty sure they were making fun of the dumb kids who'll do anything for exposure there.

It's even funnier when you consider that she was the daughter of Sal Maroni :funny:

You mean like Halloween Resurrection?

Not really, I mean in the context of a new franchise. They kinda did it in HR, but Rob Zombie could've had her killed earlier than the others. Then you'd know all bets would be off.

He did play around with that stuff a little, like with having Annie live and then become a main character in the sequel until she had her head kicked in.

Now that I think on it, I really liked how Rob Zombie handled that death scene....

Got around to watching both of these last week in one sitting. It wasn't a rewarding experience.

As bad as the the first one was, it at least felt like a Halloween movie.Sure, one set in a paralell universe where everyone has long hair and looks like they smell , but a Halloween movie nonetheless.

The sequel might very well be one of the worst horror movies I've ever sat through. Seriously, what the **** was that?! It certainly wasn't a Halloween movie...

Oh certainly wasn't. I'm fairly sure that's the only reason Zombie came back; because they told him he could do whatever he wanted.
