I always thought the first HP book (SS/PS) was better than the second one (CoS), since the second one just seemed like a total rehash of the first one, minus Harry discovering he's a wizard.
However, the second movie was better than the first in my opinion. It just seemed to flow better and the effects seemed sharper.
I agree. For me so far:
1. POA
2. HBP
3. DH.1
4. OOTP
5. SS
6. GOF
7. COS
I don't really like COS. To me it's the penultimate kiddy book of the series. Good thing POA take a sharp turn into amazing.
The reviews are so good overall right now that every time I see a negative on RT, I just assume that critic is a soulless jerk. Harsh? Yes, but at this point...screw them.![]()
All 8 of my local theater's midnight shows are completely sold out.
Are you saying that it's the second kiddiest book in the series?
Also what so "kiddy" about a young girl being mind controlled by a chunk of an evil wizard's soul?
A giant snake that has venomous fangs freezes peopleNobody died that movie. Everything ended happily and merrily. To add to that, Lockheart was the silliest of silly. It's just my leave favorite book and movie and to me it's the most child friendly of the entire series.
You cannot deny that 1 and 2 were very kid friendly. That's fine and all, I just like the more teen/adult themes of 3-7 more and movie 1 imo is far better than movie 2.

i know people dislike half blood prince...but i freakin love it...and i definitely like hearing that you dug the end of phoenix...thats one of my favorite scenes ever!
and i loved DH part 1...the series gets darker and darker...
cant wait to hear how ya like um!
Also, the second movie introduces wizard racism.
Most everyone on here anyways will agree that SS and COS are towards the bottom of their list so what I said shouldn't be surprising.![]()
The third book I thought was very dark and the end of the fourth book is supremely dark. That whole graveyard stuff was creepy and the tone of the third book with the dementors and an escaped killer made the atmosphere super tense.
I just didn't buy the 300 foot snake slithering through Hogwarts freezing people. However, I do give cred to whomever designed the set of the Chamber. The lock and everything inside was fantastically done.
Moviewise or in terms of the books, because the post I was responding to originally you called CoS the "penultimate kiddy book in the series."
Also I ask again, what exactly did you mean by "penultimate?"
Oh god I haven't read SS or COS in years. I re-read each book before the movie and just got done re-reading DH but for what I remember COS and SS were very kiddy book wise. Movie wise, I felt COS was easily the kiddiest/silliest. So that puts it at the end of my movie list. My book list would go like this:
1. DH
2. OOTP
3. POA
4. HBP
5. GOF
6. SS
7. COS
By penultimate I meant that SS and COS in terms of being children friendly, are right under the G rated kiddiest of kids books. They were a little deeper than most of the children's books at that time so they weren't over the top childish like Hank the Cowdog, Goosebumps, or Ramona and Beezus stuff. The books grew up with their readers and I understand that but, I didn't start reading the books until I was 16 or 17 so I was a little ahead of the curve. That's why they go towards the end of my list.
