I don't see it yet. I'm sure he'll be explaining why Zookeeper was better by the end of the day.

Got tickets booked now. I'm both excited and anxious for tomorrow.

I always thought the first HP book (SS/PS) was better than the second one (CoS), since the second one just seemed like a total rehash of the first one, minus Harry discovering he's a wizard.

However, the second movie was better than the first in my opinion. It just seemed to flow better and the effects seemed sharper.

Fully agreed. Also for the longest time CoS the book just seemed like an odd tangent that never went anywhere. Then HBP came out and every little element of Chamber of Secrets suddenly became insanely important. CoS isn't so much a story as it an armory of Chekhov's guns.

I agree. For me so far:

1. POA
2. HBP
3. DH.1
4. OOTP
5. SS
6. GOF
7. COS

I don't really like COS. To me it's the penultimate kiddy book of the series. Good thing POA take a sharp turn into amazing.

Are you saying that it's the second kiddiest book in the series?

Also what so "kiddy" about a young girl being mind controlled by a chunk of an evil wizard's soul?

All 8 of my local theater's midnight shows are completely sold out.

The reviews are so good overall right now that every time I see a negative on RT, I just assume that critic is a soulless jerk. Harsh? Yes, but at this point...screw them. :argh:

I feel the same way. It makes me question their credibility.:o

I guess favorite to least favorite are
1. POA
2. OotP
3. HBP
4. DH1
5. GOF
6. CoS
7. SS

I want to put GOF higher, but the last 30 minutes of the film make the first part of the film seem like an exercise in waiting to see something FINALLY happen.

SS is my least favorite because it constantly has to tell the audience what's going on. Like when McGonnagal tells Wood that the Quidditch team had a new seeker, then next scene Nearly Headless Nick says the exact same thing...
I also didn't like Harris' boring performance as Dumbledore. When Gambon took over, THAT felt like Dumbledore to me. And elderly man, but he still has life in him.

So far the advanced ticket sales are sitting at $25 million. $5 less than the last twilight movie if anyone was wondering.

Mine has sold out 14 shows, including the double-feature with DH1. There are still tickets available for the 3:10am show. :wow:

A giant snake that has venomous fangs freezes people:huh: Nobody died that movie. Everything ended happily and merrily. To add to that, Lockheart was the silliest of silly. It's just my leave favorite book and movie and to me it's the most child friendly of the entire series.

You cannot deny that 1 and 2 were very kid friendly. That's fine and all, I just like the more teen/adult themes of 3-7 more and movie 1 imo is far better than movie 2. POA is when things get more mature and you can tell that she is writing a larger arc into a deepening series.

In Harris' defense, Dumbledore wasn't given much to do in the first 2, however I agree.

Well, one of the characters introduced in that book/movie is the ghost of a child who was murdered by that snake. That seemed kinda harsh for a kiddie movie. :wow:

The first two movies were definitely the most kid-friendly, though. But they were supposed to be, so I've never held that against them.

While beginning with PoA, the films grow progressively darker, I still enjoy that childish sense of magic in the first movie. C'mon, it's fun.

Ro's speech at the premiere, she even thanked Columbus first. Very cool of her to do that.

The second one gets better with each viewing. I think CoS > GoF. :o

Moviewise the first two are very kiddy. The first one to the degree that it's hard to watch.

i know people dislike half blood prince...but i freakin love it...and i definitely like hearing that you dug the end of phoenix...thats one of my favorite scenes ever!
and i loved DH part 1...the series gets darker and darker...
cant wait to hear how ya like um!

HBP is my favorite movie. I didnt much care for the book, but something about the film clicked for me. I'm aure DH Part 2 will supplant it, though.

Most everyone on here anyways will agree that SS and COS are towards the bottom of their list so what I said shouldn't be surprising.:o

Also, the second movie introduces wizard racism.

And bullying, to a degree. The scene with Hagrid after Malfoy calls Hermione a mudblood is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It was just done so beautifully.

I had no problem with the kiddie-ness of the earlier films. I was in my 20s when I started reading the books. They were always kids' books to me from the start. As the characters grew, the stories grew with them. They had to start from somewhere.

I'm with what Stephen King said about the books in a review: they stopped being kids books after the fourth one.

The third book I thought was very dark and the end of the fourth book is supremely dark. That whole graveyard stuff was creepy and the tone of the third book with the dementors and an escaped killer made the atmosphere super tense.

I just didn't buy the 300 foot snake slithering through Hogwarts freezing people. However, I do give cred to whomever designed the set of the Chamber. The lock and everything inside was fantastically done.

Moviewise or in terms of the books, because the post I was responding to originally you called CoS the "penultimate kiddy book in the series."

Also I ask again, what exactly did you mean by "penultimate?"

Also btw, while the ending wasn't a happy one, no one died in POA either.

If I were to rate the films, personally I'd say:

1. POA
2. DH1
3. CoS
4. HBP
5. SS
6. GoF
7. OotP

While Goblet of Fire is my favorite book of the series, the movie just didn't do it for me.

OotP is also my least favorite of the books, but also the things they cut from the film, with much of Dumbledore's explanation of his intentions among others almost make it purpose defeating.

I think the worst omission from the books to the movies was Harry's meltdown in Dumbledore's office after Sirius was killed. Dammit, I wanted to see that scene. :argh:

Oh god I haven't read SS or COS in years. I re-read each book before the movie and just got done re-reading DH but for what I remember COS and SS were very kiddy book wise. Movie wise, I felt COS was easily the kiddiest/silliest. So that puts it at the end of my movie list. My book list would go like this:

1. DH
2. OOTP
3. POA
4. HBP
5. GOF
6. SS
7. COS

By penultimate I meant that SS and COS in terms of being children friendly, are right under the G rated kiddiest of kids books. They were a little deeper than most of the children's books at that time so they weren't over the top childish like Hank the Cowdog, Goosebumps, or Ramona and Beezus stuff. The books grew up with their readers and I understand that but, I didn't start reading the books until I was 16 or 17 so I was a little ahead of the curve. That's why they go towards the end of my list.

I was 25 when I started reading the books and understood from the start that they were kids books. I never had an issue with that.

I was just kind of wondering because "penultimate" means second from last.

'CoS is the second from last kiddy book' is kind of an awkward phrase, or did you mean it was your second least favorite?
