Harvey Dent/Two-Face Thread

Honestly, watching this thread and the Joker one continue to get so many hits, I’d be tickled pink if Matt Reeves ended up bypassing both characters in his films.
As would I but people get upset at that idea.

Honestly, I was half-kidding, but I do wish we could get some villains that are off the beaten path.

Give me some Maxie Zeus. Give me Clock King. Give me Professor Pyg.

And definitely give me Hugo Strange.

I would hope Strange has a chance of appearing in one of Reeves’ films. I don’t consider him tooo far off the beaten track.

This all leads in to an issue with trilogies and continuous reboots. If we only ever get trilogies we are likely to get a lineup from a selection of the usual suspects for villains and we’ll always run out of time before we get to the lower profile villains. A shame when Batman’s rogues gallery is so good.

Oscar Isaac as Hugo Strange. Too obvious?

Dent, Strange, and Luthor are all pretty much go-to choices for Isaac. I'd be happy if he got any of those three.

No, but we’ve also made it through three cycles of Bat-movies thus far, and it does strike me as odd that the oldest recurring villain in the rogues gallery has yet to be seen on the big screen.

Jett implied that Two Face is around in this world already. Not just as Harvey Dent.

I think that’s the best way to go about this. I trust Reeves but I don’t really want to see Dent show up in the sequel as the hot new DA...his downfall blah blah blah. Give us a small core of rogues for starters: Mad Hatter, Firefly, Two-Face, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler and Joker. Reference Dent’s downfall and Joker’s existence in the first. Show them in the sequels, fully formed. With a mini history between them and Batman. Reeves can always do a quick flashback of Batman fighting those two. That would be sweet.

Showcasing Two-Face without his downfall is like showcasing Freeze without his wife’s tragedy. That’s half the appeal of that character.

We can’t shun retreading of old ground when this is the umpteenth time we’ve seen Bruce/Batman. If he can be reinvented and reworked for decades on end, so too can Harvey’s. I want a franchise-long story arc with him.

If I want to see a whole movie dedicated to Dent’s good intentions and tragic downfall, I’ll watch The Dark Knight. Just because Batman shows up in the opening scene fully formed in The Batman, doesn’t mean there won’t be effective storytelling and character development. I don’t want to see another origin story for Bruce, and I feel the same about Harvey. Through dialogue and a flashback sequence, you can paint a pretty damn good picture of who Harvey Dent used to be & what he’s become. Less is more for the antagonists.

It seems like this series is not about the villains. It’s following Batman. Through his eyes we see Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman. I’m sure that’s also the case for Joker, Two-Face and whoever else comes on board. Good. I’m tired of villain origin stories inside the hero’s movie.

Also, the whole point of Two Face is to see both sides of the coin at once. We get Dent and Two-Face sometimes in the same scene. That’s what Nolan never tackled. So that’s why another full blown Harvey Dent movie is unnecessary.

I never said anything about an origin movie. I proposed a multi-film arc. Best of both worlds, if one is patient enough to stick through. The focus is never entirely on him, but he does get to grow and develop more than any singular movie could provide.

Now, if Pattinson’s series is planned to be a trilogy from the get-go, then this may be an issue. But I do have this feeling Rob is willing to stay in that cowl for longer.

Two-Face is maybe the least interesting Batman villain to me.

Just a rumour started by a fan probably. Because of his connection to Pattinson.

I could be wrong and misread something, but AWHILE BACK I had read that Matthew McConaughey and John David Washington were speculated to be cast as Dent. Was this debunked or still up in the air?

McConaughey was debunked. Washington has no source.

Haven’t seen a single name better than Christopher Abbott. Trust me peeps, try to find his new movie Possessor. If he wasn’t so short, I’d be down for him as Batman. He was my runner up for the role after Rob. But I think he fits Dent more.
