Endgame Hawkeye/Clint Barton - Jeremy Renner

For some reason, I knew that the movie would open with him since he was absent from Infinity War. I was actually expecting to see that very scene in the IW credits. It could have worked almost as well as a mid-credits scene to go even darker.

Renner shone as one of those "heart of the team" types. Which is fitting, cuz that's who Clint is in the books. There's a different dynamic here in the MCU since he actually has a family and in the comics the only definite thing he's got to call his own is the relationships he has with the other Avengers. In Endgame they give him a lot of stuff to work with and Renner doesn't disappoint. I think he would have doen more with the personality we all expected of Clint had the previous films he appeared in made more use of him in that way. He obviously can do that with this character. But it's fin that Clint's "Take the piss out of everyone" sense of humor was absence most of this film given how the story unfolded and man... Renner just sold it. Kudos should be given to Whedon. People forget he was the one that gave us the Tasha/Clint deep friendship without which so much of this story's weight in the end would be much less.

This makes me have high hopes for that Disney+ show. I can't wait to see how all that works out.

No spoilers needed here: Renner was awesome in this movie. I definitely thought he was superfluous in previous MCU movies (the original Avengers, AoU, and CW for example), but not here. He was pretty much badass all the way through, and added to the heart of the movie too.

One thing that was really confusing in his action scene in Japan:

Wasn't the Japanese bad guy that he killed in Tokyo also the same actor who played Shingen in The Wolverine? That casting took me out of the movie because The Wolverine is also Marvel but one of those FoX-Men non-MCU movies. They should've cast someone else to play that character because it made me go "wait, which universe is this again?"

Speaking of that movie, once Marvel starts making movies with the X-Men and Fantastic Four, their cast line-up is going to be way more expanded and hella expensive! Makes me wonder if Feige already has plans for a movie with at least the Avengers and X-Men....

Hawkeye has too often been underrated as a player in these movies, and I'm glad he had a lot of shine in this one. It's probably his best appearance in the series, and I'm excited for where he can go in the future.

I can guarantee that the vast, vast, VAST amount of the audience in no way shape or form linked the Ronin scenes to the Fox Wolverine films.

I’ve been wanting Hawkeye to get a good focus ever since his introduction, and I was very glad to see Renner get the opportunity here. This was a big improvement on what we’ve seen before from the character and his friendship with Nat is really touching.

I have nothing against Renner as an actor but his Hawkeye has always just "been there" for me and never really stood out. All that changed in this movie though.

The scene in Japan was so badass and it felt like something ripped out of a Batman or Punisher movie.
The very first scene of the movie was also really good.

I would've liked the movie to have dug more into how far gone and bitter Clint had become, but Jeremy Renner was great here. I'll probably briefly subscribe to Disney+ for his series alone.

His scene with Nat on Vormir was pretty much everything I could've asked for. The shot of him waking up alone in the pool with the Soul Stone in his hand was heartbreaking.

I liked him far more here than in prior films. In Civil War, he was just there. No real purpose. His whole "he has a family" in AoU felt forced. This film, he was BRILLANT.

Like had we got a short 20 second scene of Rhodey seeing the leftover of the Mexican cartel and thinking like "Clint, what have you become?"

or even when he rejoins the crew; he mentions how far he's fallen. And they (like Nat says) won't judge him.

I meant more fallout for his actions. Yes he's a SHIELD asset who is under the agency's protection... But where's the fun in that? You could have him now being the target of the criminals and various underground organizations he hunted during his time as Ronin.
