HBO's True Detective - Part 2

There's always stuff I dislike or things I really really hate. But sometimes I don't see the point for me at least to jump onto the hype and go to a thread to say "well this movie sucked I hated it". Rather just after the movie be like to myself well, the movie sucked and now I don't ever have to see it again. Time to move on and look forward to something else now. :word:

There's a lot of things that I dislike in things that I enjoy. You can go over to the Gotham forums and see haha. I've already said in this season the stuff I don't really care for is Vaughns character. But I love Colin and Rachael's stuff in this. It's true yes I generally like/love most things. Just my taste. I know what I like and what I don't.

When it comes to things I really dislike or hate, I just don't discuss as much. If it's a few things here and there sure. But say it's like an entire film/TV series/comic etc I'd rather not discuss it. Like say I see a thread in the TV section here for a show I hate. I don't go into that thread to discuss. I'd rather spend my time discussing things I enjoy over things I 100% didn't enjoy. I'm sorry if that's such a bad thing haha :)

But if people who are watching don't like what they see, and are willing to have reasonable discussions about it, I don't see that as a bad thing at all.

Exactly.

I get what Broseph s saying. I actually agree with this a lot. I don't get why people do go into threads of things they don't like

However, the thread doesn't seem to be people saying "True Detective sucks" or "Season1 sucks and so does this" The criticism seems to be born of reasonable disappointment.

Also you need conflicting opinions otherwise I would just get boring really fast.

As long as it's done respectfully and reasonably I don't see the problem.

Agreed. Some people really go overboard with the complaining and/or negativity. Usually trolls.

Jeez, that's passive aggressive.

Not really intended that way, but thanks for chiming in.

Nah trust me I know what you mean. Not everyone in this thread is like that. But you know how it is on forums especially on the hype. There are always a few who come in and just say stuff like "this sucks, ****ing horrible" blah blah blah. Not very constructive or well spoken you know? I think the stuff like that is what irritates me more so maybe I should've been clear. We know how some can get around here.

Exactly this is more so what I was making a point at, just the few who make comments or negative opinions that really aren't well spoken or thought out you know? Sorry my bad I should've been more clear on that but yeah haha.

Right.

And don't thank me.

As for going overboard, the funniest thing I've seen in this thread is someone saying that, factually, Season 1 is better than Season 2 (having been halfway through Season 2 at that point).

As if any of this is a matter of fact.

Let me post my actual thoughts on Episode 6 as well:

I thought last night's episode was particularly great. I understand some of the criticisms being leveled at this season (Vince Vaughn has some weird dialogue here and there and doesn't always get much to do, the other characters' dialogue is also sometimes a little odd), but this was an episode in which we actually get to see Frank be a little more proactive (with regard to Irina Rulfo as well as the hard drive), which was nice.

Plus I found all the character work with regard to Ray and Ani to be very effective. Ray getting coked up and Ani being a badass while hopped up on ecstasy =.

From the preview, it looks like we'll be seeing more of Woodrugh's personal storyline (which it would be nice to see start to get tied together considering that these are the last two episodes and I'm curious as to where he'll end up) alongside an increasingly desperate Frank.

All in all, I myself feel that things are starting to gel together more as we head into the ending episodes of the season. I'm excited to see what's in store in these last two.

Last episode was pretty good, that last scene was what saved it.

....as for this season I think Its safe to say it's disappointing, but that doesn't mean it's been awful. This **** is still better than most shows out there.

............ sure.

Some of you guys in here drive me nuts. If you don't like the show, fine. Then leave. We get it. There are plenty of shows I tried and didn't like such as Tyrant or The Strain. You don't see me in those threads constantly *****ing.

And save it with the rationale of "I want to see if it turns around". The season is in the home stretch. It is what it is at this point. Statements like that just prove to me that you have nothing better to do in life. :down

This was a good episode. It helps that we didn't have to hear about Jordan's fertility problems or Paul's pregnant girlfriend. Frank is more interesting now that he's shaking people down for info and isn't just blathering about land deals.

There's nothing complicated about the Mexicans' role in Frank's story. They're members of some Santa Muerte cult/gang. Birdman paid Irina, one of their members, to pawn off Caspere's goods, so that they'd be blamed for Caspere's murder. The plan worked and several gang members were killed in that shootout we saw. Irina revealed over the phone that she'd sold the stuff at the behest of a cop so the higher up gang members murdered her. The only thing that struck me as dumb about that was that they didn't wait until she'd given Frank the info he needed. Why antagonize him needlessly? Unless Birdman's also paying them to do away with her.

I continue to like everything to do with Ray and Chad and Ani and her background.

I'm not watching to see if this turns around, because I feel with some certainty that it won't. I'm still watching because, in years to come, when this particular season is discussed and I talk about what a disaster it's been, I want to at least have the foundation of having sat through the entire season.

The people who want us, who are slightly disappointed in this show, that want us to just cut and run... do you look at your life like that?

Like overtime you fight with your significant other, drop a pizza on the ground, or stub your toe... consider suicide? Because that is about the same.

Yes, a lot of us our disappointed and want to discuss those issues... who cares. Isn't that the point to these forums. I wouldn't want to be here if it was all "Chris Hardwick" everyday where every thing is Awesome and cool and everyone is happy and excited and have zero issues.

I really love Ray I think he is my favorite character this season for sure

I want to apologize for some of the crap I wrote in my last few posts. However, I do think it's unfair to talk down to people for expressing their disappointment for this season.
