He'll Cancel the Pizzas: The Alfred Pennyworth Thread

I dig Mark Rylance too. I want a more "subtle" choice for the role of Alfred. Somewhat less familiar faces. So no to Atkinson, Laurie, Brosnan, Cranston...

Rylance is older than my preference.

Jeffrey Wright’s a bit older then I thought they for with Gordon. I’m trying to say that maybe age-ranges based around Pattinson’s casting don’t matter too much to the filmmakers? Maybe?

I think Liam Cunningham is the best possible pick, for the standards of reasoning set in this thread, at least. Very much in the mold of a classic Alfred (Luke Rylance) but can also pull of the more recent, tougher portrayals (like Pierce Brosnan.)

Common sense would tell me that if they've already cast Gordon they've probably already cast Alfred. I hope we know who he is soon

Alfred, as far as I'm concerned, should always be older than Gordon. Wright was born in '65, so...

Yeah, Rylance works for me.

Go with Fiennes and get Felix Liter and M in a Batman movie.

I'd go with either Fiennes or Rylance. The other guys are either too mean-looking or too handsome/hot in my opinion. Lol.

I'm on board for Fiennes. Not a fan of Rylance in the role.

Would it be typecasting if we went with this actor?

Dance, 10-20 years ago, would've been perfect. But we gotta remember that this is likely gonna be the start of a franchise. Getting a 72 year old for the start of a franchise ain't exactly the best idea for fairly obvious reasons

Another interesting choice for Alfred believe it or not would be Hugh Grant

I do think Fiennes would be a great choice but who knows how likely he's at this point.

He said he’d do it (in live-action, I mean.)

Only if Naomi Harris plays Leslie Thompkins or something

Ben Whishaw as Paddington as Alfred.

David Hyde Pierce tbh. And just make the whole thing an episode of Frasier with Batman as Frasier.

BATMAN: Cranberry muffin, please. And... a vanilla latte.

ALFRED: Oh dear, comfort food. What happened?

BATMAN: Alfred, do you think I'm elitist?

ALFRED: Of course I do. You needn't worry about that.

I don't think Ralph Fiennes has that warmth for Alfred. He's a good actor, but even in that King's Man trailer he seems a bit cold and detached (which could be good for that character.)

If Pierce Brosnan really is a contender then he would be an interesting take. Colin Firth was a good suggestion. I also like Sean Bean.
