I thought part of it, was that Paramount refused ?

Oh yeah for sure, but given how they pretty much reshot everything, WB could've saved the $20 mil in mustache money by just letting Cavill keep the facial hair. They only really needed the scrub for the intro scene.

I like that Cavill is trying to be aggressive. He shouldn't settle for Nick Fury cameos unless it's part of a MOS 2 greenlight. If he got along with Chris McQuarrie then I would recruit him. There are other routes he can go but that might be the easiest.

This. Also, seeing Superman reduced to a mere "cameo character" in other movies isn't, in my opinion, doing justice to the character.

I like this notion of Superman being at the center of everything and the glue that holds the DCEU together. I remember really appreciating how much weight his presence was given in MOS, BVS and how he was kind of the inception of everything involving metahumans, their discovery and them being sought after by the government and what have you. It makes sense for Superman to be a central figure like that. I totally approve. He's apparently going to have some presence in Aquaman too, even if it's a name drop, a la Suicide Squad.

McQuarrie would honestly be a dream come true for me. He's been one of my favorite writers/directors in Hollywood for years now, and has perfect action blockbuster sensibilities, imo.

This doesn't feel like a pipe dream. McQuarrie is putting it out there. Henry and his manager need to keep pushing and arrange things. They shouldn't have to but WB has shown they won't be proactive. It's up to Cavill.

Wholeheartedly agree. Don't like the idea of Superman being "reduced", as if he's only the elder for other heroes. When it should be about expanding his role, to have his solo movies as well as bringing the DC universe together.

So Cavill is down. McQuarrie is down. And the two have discussed the possibility with each other. Hard for me to believe WB hasn't called them yet. Easier to buy that something is brewing and they just can't discuss it until post-MI6.

Don't play games with my heart, Chris!

Cavill is basically telling us McQuarrie is his guy. He said in an interview with Collider that "His people are talking daily and hopefully they talk to more people at WB to get the process going of getting creative writers and directors he admires to do this.."

"Director's he admires."

Christopher McQuarrie, come on down.

Sounds exciting if this were all to come together with McQuarrie at the helm.

I think MI6 is going to help him out a lot. Hoping it all works out. JL cannot be the last time we see Cavill as Supes, it wouldnt be fair.

If margot robbie conviced WB into hiring cathy Yan , i Bet Cavill could convice WB into hiring the Director he want

we definitely need a superman Movie, but how to explain Clark kent coming back from the dead ? they clearly said he was dead on that Piece of paper

that's the huge problem with WB, they doesnt have the clue about anything.. same thing with suicide squad ending , Joker just free harley from this huge guarded Prison & goes back in gotham ?

this make me sick, DC fans doesnt deserve this, since i saw infinity war, im full off anger towards WB.

McQuarrie is hugely talented, not only has he shown himself to be an excellent director but he's been a fantastic writer long before that (Usual suspects, Valkyrie, live-die-repeat and the recent MI film), but at the end of the day it's how he feels about the character that really matters. If he thinks that the character needs to be dark and moody to be interesting then thanks but not thanks.

I agree. But the last few years have been pretty definitive in showing that dark and moody Superman is... well, pretty crap. Cavill himself is probably pushing it the other way now, so hopefully that'll work for out.

Taking it to opposite direction (opposite of dark, moody) is not automatically better Superman... It becomes "Whedonized" Superman, unless that's what the masses want.

Bright and happy Superman is absolutely the better direction, as proven by the 80 year history he's enjoyed and the fact that the Whedon Superman-- in spite of being in that movie and having a CG weirdo face-- was finally thought of as a highlight of these things.

I think Snyder got it right in Man of Steel, these scenes capture how Superman should interact in public.

With Gen. Swanwick (I don't see how he can be more bright and happy)

Extremes almost always end in failure, whether be it the dark, moody, dialogue challenged superman we got from singer and snyder or the one-liner trigger happy, neon colored Whedon superman. There is something called balance and it isn't as difficult as WB makes it seem, but if I had to choose then I'd go with Whedon's version (sans the silly one liners and the fake lip) because atleast that superman put the safety of civilians first and seemed to actually enjoy being Superman.

Few minutes out of a total of 6 hours of film........I have to disagree with you on the notion of Snyder getting it right.

I think if BvS had more of that Superman, then I don’t think he’d have been as badly received in BvS. And it’s one reason why I don’t think having Superman be emotionally broken twice (post-bombing and post-rooftop) before being killed was a good thing. But hopefully we’ll get that Superman again, and not just one who makes too many one-liners.

I'll still take the guy from Kansas who just does what he feels is right and has a strong enough bond with those he loves + follows even his social justice to wherever it may lead. That guy is meek on a personal level & imposing at other times, but that JL caricature I saw was somebody else.

Agreed, The Superman as seen in MoS, felt like a real person (maybe not 100 % heroic, but a man with his own views and beliefs) whereas JL Superman was out of Saturday morning cartoons, a caricature.

People make too much of the JL portrayal. He made a few jokes.

He also said and did some very serious things (mostly upon his rebirth). But apparently we're just forgetting about his fight with the league, his confrontation with Batman, and his recognition that he needed to return to action, all of which were played pretty seriously.

He wasn't cracking jokes the entire time, and when he did, he was often doing fairly serious or simply Supermanlike things while or right after he did so.

JL Supes had the right attitude, but the Whedon dialogue was terrible.
