It's better this way. If Cavill does not renew his contract, this will ensure that he will have to appear in some other DC movie (as his old contract has one movie left), preferably a solo Superman movie in future, which is better than making a 2 minute appearance in a Shazam movie.

Contracts aren’t always fulfilled though so they could just terminate the contract by mutual consent with
Cavill getting a little pay out.

I’m honestly not worried though and I think they’ll sort it out with Cavill staying on.
