BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - Part 2

lol^^I'll give Routh his due as looking the most different, but the guy did only have like 15 lines total as Clark and Superman...so all he had to do was stand around and push rocks.

This, x 5,000,000,000.

It's pretty easy to act like a wallflower when you the script literally calls for you to stand around in the background. Watching Routh play Clark and Superman was sort of like that SNL episode where Lindsay Lohan was technically the host, but all she did was stand around in the background in all the sketches.

Anyway, I hope that with Henry's Clark, they find the right balance of nerdy and charming. What worked so well with Reeve's Clark is that he was a dweeb but he had this subtle, old school charm that made the scenes with Lois really memorable. Henry already has excellent chemistry with Amy as Superman and as "real" Clark... I just hope they don't lose it with Daily Planet Clark.

You know, I just realized that Cavil's Clark/Superman took the longest to become Superman out of all of his previous live action predecessors in terms of his character's age (Cavil's Clark was 33 when he donned the suit).

Christopher Reeve's (and Brandon Routh's) Clark became Superman at the age of 30, while Dean Cain's and Tom Welling's Clark became Superman presumably in their mid 20's.

I'm assuming that's the same for George Reeve's and Kirk Alyn's versions of Clark as well.

So in a world where Bruce became Batman and had a Robin who eventually became Nightwing before Clark first donned the suit, I'd say that Cavil's Clark is definitely a late bloomer in this universe.lol

I liked Brandon as Clark I prefer his wallflower Clark as opposed to Reeves clown Clark. Even in TAS they went for a Clark who was not noticed as opposed to an over the top goofy Clark.

I'm not sure what sort of "Clark" I want. He doesn't need to be a wallflower or a complete klutz, so I'm really unsure. I'm open to a different interpretation.

What's in Miami?? Henry flew there yesterday, here's a fan pic from Miami airport.

I know he's just wrapped UNCLE and prob deserves a little break, but I don't want him to be doing anything now apart from preparing for MoS2! Forget relaxing, seeing friends or gfs or having fun, I just want him locked in a gym with Mark Twight for the next few months - and maybe Battfleck and a script too! Haha.

I wonder why he is there though, anyone have any ideas?

I think he might be headed to Salt Lake City where Gym Jones is.

But he's definitely going to be spending the new ew months with Twight. He spent a lot of months at Twight's facility for MOS too.

The problem with Routh was the A. he looked too young and slender for the role, and B. Superman was barely a character in that movie. Lois and Lex got much more focus than he did. I was shocked at how little dialogue Superman has in that movie and how uninteresting most of the dialogue that he DID have was. He's also not proactive at all, and the complete lack of chemistry with Kate Bosworth stuck out like a sore thumb. James Marsden's character acted more like Superman in that movie than Superman did. I think that MOS fixed that. I don't think that we'll get wallflower Clark, or "goofy" Clark in the Christopher Reeve vein. I think that Cavill is probably going to play Clark as more "reserved" and "mild-mannered."

I was shocked at how little dialogue Superman has in that movie and how uninteresting most of the dialogue that he DID have was. I don't think he was really allowed to come across as assertive in the film.

But I'm really happy for Cavill. I feel like he's an unsung lead, who could have been the Superman of a generation if Goyer's script allowed him to be a fully realized Clark Kent.

I think some people have a hard time bonding with Cavill's Supes because the narrative isn't really crafted around Clark's character, but rather the events surrounding him. This, I think bleeds into the audience's perception of the actor, thus blaming a bunch of the flawed characterization on his portrayal. This, and for nearly 40 years people are searching for a Superman to give them the emotional pull that Reeve did under the suit.

And TBH, I think people tend to not separate Reeve's performance from the other elements of the films, some of which have no place in superhero movies today (Superman has a weakness. Therefore it's a rock from Africa. Therefore it's KRYPTONITE!.)

I agree with all of that. As for Cavill's Clark, I'm thinking they may make him more of the "nerdy cool" type. It's in to be a geek these days, and the way he was dressed at the end of MOS seemed to indicate that they might be going that route. Instead of dressing and acting like someone who stepped out of the 1940s (like Reeve's Clark kinda did), I think Cavill's Clark will be more of a nerdy hipster type, always playing with his iPad and such.

The dude does get recognized plenty. I wonder if I'd have the balls to ask him for a picture, or any celebrity for that matter. I wasn't even capable of asking Wolverine for an autograph at Islands of Adventure in Orlando last time I was there.

if he had been 30, they would have done exactly that. jesus began his ministry at 30, died at 33. supes became known as superman at 33.
