BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - Part 21

Height is a non issue, especially for a someone like cavill who is more than tall enough. Superman wasn't always 6.3, infact in the pre-crisis era he was 6.2 and would it surprise many of you to know that the 6,4 Reeve wore lifts to look even taller, so tall infact that there was a scene in the daily planet in superman the movie where people were asking Clark to duck because he was blocking the tv set!

I think Cavill's acting was spot on i think. He doesn't try to threaten Batman or trying to be scary, he is just like a teacher (or a parent) telling a naugthy child "stop it". It's his "go stand in the corner and think about what you did"

I don't know how else he could deliver those lines. It's not "you think you can threaten my mother" moment for Superman. Small kick to batmobile and ripping it off like a can makes it obvious. They are not two evenly matched beings.

Then of course, Batman will give him a good fight he wasn't expecting.

Agreed. I actually though his very neutral delivery was perfect for the context of the scene. Batman has just crashed the batmobile at speed sideways into Superman, he rips the doors off and tells him to stop doing what he's doing - and says it in such a calm way you'd think it was just a toy car that had bounced off him. For me, it exaggerated the image of Superman as being god-like - which is exactly what's bothering Batman so much.

Well, in another way one could say it is also kind of cute. Very human of her. Actually makes me chuckle more than cringe.

One thing I wanted to hear everyone's opinion on that I don't remember being discussed before. I understand Cavill is 6'1, not short by anyone's standards. However, considering he is two inches shorter than comic superman, does anyone here ever wonder why the hell they made Cavill's height more of an issue by casting so many people taller than him in MOS and BVS?. As an example:

Michael Shannon 6'3
Harry Lennix 6'3
Ben Affleck 6'3-6'4
Jeremy Irons 6'2

Now you may say, big deal that's only 4 people, that's fine, however 3 of those people are the one's who have a great deal of scenery with Cavill. This only popped up again as an issue to me as I was reminded of it in the new footage, where Superman is walking down the hall, like a boss and the random extra that stops to stare looked juat as tall if not slightly taller.

You can add Momoa and Ray Fisher to that list as well.

The height is such a non-issue to me... Superman isn't portrayed as being 7'5" in the comics, so if he's not the tallest man on earth, he can be shorter than other people, and it doesn't matter if they're other superheroes. And it's not like any of these guys are going to absolutely dwarf him. We've seen Cavill standing next to Affleck on a number of occasions and the height difference is barely noticeable.

Dean and Tom were both dull and uninteresting actors lucky enough to get hitched to a franchise character. I'm a huge Superman fan and I don't feel the need to "trash" something from the past to build up something in the present for the simple reason that I've always thought Cain and Welling were sub-optimal actors on their best days as Supes and Clark.

I liked both shows but I can admit the actors have limitations. Dean was a better Clark than Superman and Tom is not good in movies, he also was hampered by bad writing that made him the dumbest Clark Kent in history.

Well it doesn't ruin things for me. Cavill is Superman to me. But did the "only two inches" not bother you in the interrogation scene in MOS when Cavill stood up and walked over to Swanwick and appeared a good 4/5 inches shorter?. That scene always annoyed me. If you can't see their feet why couldn't they have used something to make Cavill atleast equal height?

His height never even registered with me in that scene. All I noticed was how awesome Superman was in that scene.

Gonzalez said his sources claimed Affleck dominated the scenes with Cavill. I'm not really seeing that so far.

I want them to explore Clark and Lois (Cavill/Amy) more but JL1's focus will be on other things I'd guess. I believe Amy is in JL1. Hope she and Henry get a decent amount of screentime.

...I agree. From what I have seen, Affleck looks good but his acting is no better than Cavills. Some of his expressions are...ehhh.
I'm sure it will all be great but this notion that Afflect is this great thespian... He's good, but he's no Damon... ( burn)

I am not dissing Affleck. He is the better actor. All I can judge by now are the clips and Cavill is holding his own. I have not seen the whole film but based on what I've seen.

No reason he should have more to work with. That is the writer or the "attitude" of the writer.

Good news if this pans out and Cavill does near as well as Affleck then maybe WB will green light MOS2.

Batman is going to go from a place of extreme rage to a state where he feels comfortable working with the object of his most recent obsession and an immortal princess from an island of immortal women. There's a character arc there. Superman will likely receive some development, but I don't see him struggling as much as his counterpart.

God, that suit was perfect. I'm always going to be upset that they changed it.
