I finally read them and I'm glad because judging by the reaction, I was expecting to see him say how much he loved eating baby flesh for his workout protein with a side of ketchup and mustard who loves washing it down with a side of devil's blood.

Glad it wasn't that! Carry on Henry, carry on.

For anyone upset by anything Henry's said (and yes, I'm a card carrying feminist) I'm just lol'ing in advance in anticipation of when JL arrives and Jason Momoa starts to do a lot of interviews... :funny:

So, I read the comments yesterday and I still don't understand what the big deal is

I think, as per usual, an offhand and poorly thought-out comment has been turned into Henry allegedly calling out some "reverse sexism." I don't get the impression that he was really trying to do that. I think that, as a rather attractive male celebrity, he's gotten some raunchy comments thrown his way by the opposite sex and is simply commenting on the fact that such comments would not be tolerated in the same manner if directed towards a female. I reckon people have a problem with this because acts like that by males towards women are generally much more threatening/dangerous than the reverse and often aren't comparable. They probably think he's insensitive to this fact. It appears he does realize it though, but didn't voice it correctly. That's my take on it anyways. It wasn't the most wise thing to say, but I don't think there's a need to declare him a horrible human being like those folks on the net are doing. He probably already realizes his mistake and if he doesn't...he sure will now, lol.

I don't remember Chris Hemsworth getting this much sh** when him and his buddies donned Native American warpaint for Halloween or Anthony Mackie getting skewered like this when he made his stupid, ignorant comment that he likes Donald Trump because "he came from nothing."

That's because according to the internet gender equality is currently ranked as the number one issue threatening our species, narrowly beating out our depleting water tables and inability to feed the global population.

Facetiousness aside, Cavill was merely giving his opinion on his subjective experience, he wasn't making any commentary on broader sociocultural trends even though people love interpreting contextual personal comments as someone's "view" on an entire subject. Also, bizarrely, when a man doesn't tailor his speech precisely to indicate that he's 100% aware of each and every gender-nuanced connotation of his word choice he's apparently a flagrant chauvinist trying to subjugate women.

This ain't a feminist issue. This is a "HENRY'S DATING A 19 YR OLD AND I AS A WOMAN AM NOW GONNA FIND ANY EXCUSE TO THROW SHADE AT HIM BECAUSE THE WOMAN HE'S DATING ISN'T ME" issue.

That sounds like a broad generalization and probably doesn't apply to female users on the Hype as much as it does the pits of tumblr and YouTube comments.

I dont understand what the big deal is. People get offended by the stupidest stuff. Theres bigger problems in the world than what an actor says about double standard sexism

This is the internet, there is nothing more important than lambasting people for not respecting your identity as a ________ while patently ignoring their identity categories too.

It really is ridiculous. All he said was that people have a tendency to get up in arms when guys make crude public comments to women, but when it happens to men, no one bats an eye.

And in some cases, hes not wrong

Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans got a lot of hate for saying that Black Widow was the s-word for flirting with Cap and having some sort of romance with Bruce Banner. Evans actually apologized while Renner didn't really. Joss Whedon was viciously attacked on twitter because of the "I can't have kids/I'm a monster" scene.

And I believe Mackie and Hemsworth got hate for those things. This isn't a Marvel v DC actors thing.

Personally I get where he was coming from about being hit on and cat called and women shouldn't treat him that way but it isn't the same thing as with women because a woman crudely and rudely propositioning 6 foot 180 pound Henry Cavill can't murder him as easily if he turns her down or ignores her. I don't think he is a bad guy nor do I think he should be crucified but that comment was tone deaf.

Everybody is missing the part where Cavill acknowledges how it is different for woman for not being physically imposing. OR did I happen to see something most didn't?

Yeah, that's true. I forgot about the stuff with Evans and Renner and the Whedon backlash... my God, that was insane.

That part of his comment is why I'm not super annoyed about what he said Tra-El. But just like the Avengers cast learned last year, he will learn that any even precieved bad comment is going to be blown out of proportion. He has a huge film coming out and the entertainment media loves controversy. He's going to have to watch what he says.

Oh Lawd have mercy. Stop conflating actors with their roles. Cavill's a human being. If he wants to date a hot 19 yr old it's his prerogative. I don't envy celebrities and the ******** they have to put up with.

This conversation isn't about his girlfriend but I do agree that people who care about his girlfriend's age need to get a life.

Yeah, I agree. His PR people probably mentioned it to him. I don't have a problem with it, though. In today's day in age, EVERYTHING gets peoples panties in a twist, so if it wasn't this, it probably would have be something else. I appreciate the honesty to the answer. All he was really doing was defending the fact that he's sometimes not okay with feeling like a piece of meat. And he shows knowledge that it's different for women anyhow for not being physically imposing. Easily forgivable.

NO!!! Never forgive him!!! MUST POST A HUNDRED GIFS OF ELLEN PAGE AND/OR JENNIFER LAWRENCE MAKING FACES!!!

Oh, my bad. Still I think some people get too wrapped up in celebrity that they forget for some of these folks this is just a 9-5 gig. Sure they have influence, but their private lives should be respected. Just my $.02

And that's why some celebrities don't like to talk to fans and reporters and give off that arrogant vibe. Because someone somewhere will get offended by their pronunciation on the letter "A" and it will be blown out of proportion. Eventually you get tired of the constant attacks. Which is sad and I hope will never happen with Henry, because he seems to really enjoy spending time around fans and is such a nice person.

There wasn't a single thing wrong with his comments they were right on the money.

I hope he doesn't lose his spark.

I've got more respect for him for having the guts to say what he did. A lot of men are scared to speak up about these things for fear of being lambasted by hypocritical feminists, some of whose views show real misandry more than anything else.

I doubt he was saying that to piss off feminists but people are allowed their delusions.
