I don't get it...
E! is reporting another Sam Hamm Rumor. Please leave your comments about it (and if possible of support for Tom) below in the article: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b200792_jon_hamm_from_mad_man_superman.html
And here's a poll asking if fans want Sam Hamm to be Superman, one of the options is "I don't want anybody but Tom Welling". Please vote: http://www.tvguide.com/News/Jon-Hamm-Superman-1023142.aspx
They're gonna have the writer of Burton's first "Batman" be Superman?? WILD!

.Most certainly, but unlike certain people over at the Superman section who are willing to completely sacrifice Superman's physicality, I for one certainly am not. Hamm does not look like superman in any conceivable way. Facially he suffers from what I like to call the "Routh-syndrome", meaning he has this annoyingly skinny face that just kills the superman look completely. And I'm not even gonna start with his height and age. I don' care if he's the best actor ever, he still doesn't look like the character he's supposed to portray. But don't you guys want a good actor?

While I'm at it, this Joe mang... what ever the hell his last name is looks just as bad facially but in a different kind of way.
They should look at complete unknowns and hope to find someone with both talent and appearance. It's a big world, he's out there somewhere, they just need to look harder.

I said "certain" people, not everyone. There's really quite the difference.Dude, are you kidding me? That's the EXACT reason I can hardly stand going to that forum. It's hiluperman is 50riously pathetic how many people over there will throw away a certain actors candidacy for the role because he's ONLY 6'1. Do you really think that Nolan or any casting director is going to say, "Well, he looks great for the part and sure can act BUT, he's 6'1 and not 6'3 like issue 590 states he is!"![]()

It's more than his height.
He just doesn't look like Superman to me.
Superman has always been drawn with a square jaw and thick black (or dark) hair.
Hamm just doesn't look like Superman to me, so I will agree with that 100%.
He may be a fine actor, but if his physicality can't sell me on him being the man of steel, there is only so far his acting can take him.
You can't act taller.
One of the main problems I had with Routh was that he wasn't physically imposing. He's 6'3, I think, but far too skinny when SR was shot to sell me on him being Supes.
One thing that Tom has that so few other actors do, physically, is that he's freakin' huge. His height isn't exactly known, he's sometimes reported as being 6'3" and sometimes 6'5", but he's got muscles and bulk and that sqaure jaw.
Physically: he's perfect as is, the fact that he can act and has been already playing Clark Kent for now ten seasons is just icing.
I don't know if it's realistic that Tom get the part at this point, but they will have to look harder if Jon Hamm is the best they can come up with.
First off, I completely agree with you about TW. It's not a secret that I 100% back him for the new movie, as unlikely as it may be. As for Hamm, I don't want him for the role, never have. He looks much older than he really is and whoever the next Man of Steel is needs to be able to play the role for at least a sequel or two (assuming this isn't a one shot deal) without looking like an old man by the end.
Also, didn't Routh wearing lifts or something to that extent? See, I do understand people not wanting someone who's considered short next Superman (anything below 6 foot is too short) but, then again, people were freaking out in 2004 when Routh was cast because he had brown eyes. We know they were digitally altered to be blue and wham, problem solved. If they find someone who is their man for sure and is about 6 foot or so, they WILL find a way to make him looker taller/intimidating. That's the factor Routh ultimately failed to achieve: intimidation. I never bought for a second he was strong enough to fight Darkseid or Doomsday.
Just get me a guy who can act, facially looks the role, and can fool me into believing he and Clark Kent are two different people and we're gold.

Tom Welling can act? Where are all those lead roles then? The Fog? BOMB............Cheaper by the dozen?? YIKES

Tom gets a hard time sometimes for his acting on the show. You have to remember he basically went from being a model and labourer to starring in the lead role in a major TV series. I'd be the first to admit his acting was a bit shaky in the first couple of seasons, but he improved massively and has been fantastic in the last few series. And that's with having to learn scripts whilst also serving as a producer on Smallville and Hellcats.
Part of the problem has also been the Smallville scripts and the style in which the actors are directed on the show. Even some of the best actors in the world come off as flaky in Smallville when they're given Dawson's Creek-style lines. For example, I always thought Michael Shanks acting was 110% solid in Stargate, but when he played Hawkman (as awesome as it was), bits of it were just cheesy ..... and that was down to how it was written, he could only work with what he had.
I'd love to see Tom in even one episode of a more normally written show (CSi, Fringe, etc) just to see how he would do.
While doing E.R. George Clooney was able to star in a few movies, like "From dusk till dawn", "One fine day", "Batman and Robin" and "The Peacemaker".
Yeah but George Clooney wasn't a producer or the main star, ER had an ensemble cast. Tom is needed in pretty much every Smallville episode so time isn't on his side.
^ In additon to that, ER was also shot in LA so Clooney was able to go to those sets pretty quickly.
As we've explained probably a thousand times before Welling is limited in movie roles to doing things like CBTD that can be shot during SV's 10 week summer hiatus or things like the Fog that are being shot in Vancouver.
