Here We Go Again Part 3: New Welling As Superman Rumors?

Yea just read that. Would have been cool if the cameo made it into final script. But oh well wb wants separate films and gl director wanted to just focus on gl guys.

He said it still can happen... Which is awesome. :D I'd love to see TW make it to the big screen. But I won't get my hopes up.

Its not goingg to happen though. Cmapbell said time and time again it wont happen and wb right now is focused on just solo films right now. Would been nice. But not likely going to be. With superman film in early production stages and all that. And no cast picked. If any thing was to be added ij any reshoots it probably be in like jan/feb. And more then likely they would want to be next film supes and we haven't gotten any offical castings yet. Only reason I say welling was mention was due to routh no longer assoicated with the role and no longer having a contract with wb. And that tom is the current star assoicated with superman in any form.

*IF*, and thats a big if, TW were to do the cameo and he didnt get cast in the reboot, then I think you would see pitchforks and torches on WB's doorsteps. I kid, sort of.
I think if they do have the cameo it will be done by whomever is snyder's superman, be it welling, hammer, etc etc. just my 2 cents.

Well yea its likely would be snyder pick to be used if it was to happen. But I don't think it would. Would been nice. But also as I pointed out if snyder pick wasn't made before any reshoots if they haven't dine them already ita not going to be in film. But I do sorta agree with campbell and wb and its better to just focus on said character on there own. Now if they had all there directors/writers done meetings proir to filming said dc films a more unofied world would be nice like marvel is trying. But right now wb does want just solo films. And with the case of superman with all the legal uphills we don't know what will happen. So its best for them to keep all things apart for now and then later if they can find a way to unite all.

hahaha, that's awesome. Good to see some Welling love out there in Hollywood.

Agreed. It's great to know that there are plenty of people who do know of Welling and the many years that he's been the public face of this character.

Not that any of that will translate into him getting a shot at the Superman role on the big screen, but it's still good to know that at least some people "in the know" consider him a viable candidate - as opposed to snubbing their noses at him because he's on TV.

Yea it probably didn't make it past first few drafts. When ever campbell came in and said no non gl heros would be showing up is probably when it got cut.

It's funny how CK cameo rumor is getting so distorted. I just went to two different sites where one reads "Green Lantern Co-Writer Wants Tom Welling To Cameo As Clark Kent" while another simply reads "No Clark Kent Cameo in Green Lantern Movie".

yea if any one has read the script where the cameo appeared it was very small thing. But yea they are blowing the story out. It was cut for various reasons one being that campbell didnt want any non gl characters in his film. There was probably others too. But yea we have no clue if it had happened who would have been used for the nod. Would it have been welling, would it have been some random somebody and face blocked or something, or even routh. It would have been nice to have it. But with superman been in stuck a sticky situation it was best to be left out.

IIRC the cameo was just a scene where the ring left it's previous owner and was flying around looking for it's next GL, someone who was pure and virtuous. it flies by Clark, pauses for a second, and then continues on to Hal.

I haven't read very far, but the script starts out so well, despite starting with a flash forward.

You know I hate those and I still like this script a lot so far. Good origin tale for Hal.

Hal is probably my favorite DC character. I really hope the film delivers and I don't understand why so many people complained about the CG in the trailer. Looks way better than how tights would've looked imo. And yeah - I don't think a CK cameo was needed. Let DC build their individual franchises first and worry about crossovers later. I think that's the best way to go.

Yea I only read up to like page 20 myself when I saw the script. Then I mever got back to reading it cause got busy with school/work/family stuff. But I ahree the early draft was pretty good. And I hope the script in shooting stage is good too. Yea the cg was fine in the trailer. Alot of folks I guess don't unsderstand films like these are always getting fined tuned to about a month from release and its in the can. The effects are def going to look even better in final cut.

Now I know this article has nothing to do with Tom or the new Superman film per-say, but it is about what could have been had Singer done his version of a sequel. Even though it's from IESB, which is known for an abundance of love for Singer and SR, I still find it a little interesting in terms of how they get rid of Jason. It also seems like it would have had a ton of more action than SR. Yet it still doesn't sound like the Superman movie we've been waiting for. Hopefully Synder and Nolan give us something great.

What Almost Was: Bryan Singer's The Man of Steel Storyline

Zack Snyder is just months away before he goes into production of the Chris Nolan produced The Man of Steel, A.K.A. Superman Begins or Superman Rises or was it Superman Returns Again? But before Zack and Chris came aboard Bryan Singer did have a sequel planned for his Superman
Returns. So even though his final vision for his Superman Saga will never be seen we can tell you what a planned storyline was going to be.

It's actually a shame that fans have not yet seen the complete version of Superman Returns and one would hope that WB would one day release the complete film on Blu-Ray.

From larger sub-plots including Kal Penn's character Stanford manipulating Superman's return to Krypton, his arrival to Krypton and his return back to earth. That complete movie adds another 30 minutes plus to the film and for fanboys like me, we would watch it. Actually I did see that movie but that's for another article.

Some of our readers might not be up to speed on the bigger story of Superman Returns, so we will shed some light where we can.

So what did Bryan and his writers have in mind for the sequel? Let me be clear, Singer never had a chance to get his script completed, there was a couple different outlines that were done during the production of Superman Returns but the one we are going to talk about in this article was the one that most likely was going to get a full script treatment.

Superman: The Man of Steel

TMS started just a few years after the incidents that we saw in Superman Returns. Kal-El is doing what Superman does best, Lois Lane is raising her kid Jason, who of course is Superman's child and the world is getting use to having Superman back.

Now there are storyline threads that go back to Superman Returns, one is the on going plot of Superman's original reason of going back to Krypton. He has always wondered if he truly is the last Son of Krypton.

Remember new Krypton that Lex created with crystals he stole from the Fortress of Solitude and Kryptonite that Supes launched into to space that nearly killed him?

So new Krypton continues to grow in space and has become an almost perfect sphere. It is now the size of a small moon.

Besides giving Humans something to admire at night, Earth new satellite has also brought some unexpected attention from a galaxy far, far away.

A massive spaceship arrives Earth's orbit, Superman flys up to meet the spacecraft and we are introduced to our out of this world visitor.

Superman quickly finds out that our visitor is also a Kryptonian survivor who has been traveling the known galaxies and was able to detect Kryptonian technology thanks to our new green/black satellite that has started to orbit the Earth.

Superman finally has found a Kryptonian buddy and starts showing him around the planet, a planet full of problems, disease, famine, crime and nations at war with each other.

Our new Kryptonian friend asks Superman why, with all his power, is he not changing the world for the better. Why is he not getting rid of famine, disease and war? Of course fans know that Superman has always been told, or better said instructed, not to interfere with Earth's development.

Superman explains that he is not allowed to interfere but his Krypto buddy tells him that with their powers they are required to "interfere," Superman disagrees.

Krypto buddy decides to take charge and starts "interfering" from day one. One of the first things that he does is get involved in a political mess that is heating up between two third world nations.

War breaks out between these two nations but before any real battle breaks our Krypto buddy interferes and lays waste to these two Armies.

He declares to the world that he will not allow anymore wars and/or the destruction of our planet. He is declaring a "War Free" planet and for those who disagree he will have to deal with them.

The major nations of the planet applaud his actions and all agree to an immediate worldwide peace. In return he promises to share technology, fight hunger, famine and disease.

The population of the world rejoices and any small pockets of resistance is quickly squashed by Krypto buddy or even the world governments.

Superman has now become a pariah, the way the world sees it, he has been here for years and had kept technology that could have saved many of the worlds problems.

Superman starts getting a bit suspicious of Krypto buddy and decides to go talk to him. He goes to his spaceship and has a revelation. This massive ship is full of hundreds if not thousands of identical bodies aboard, yep, clones of Krypto buddy, in stasis.

So Superman digs a bit more inside the "computer" system, which is familiar to him since it's Kryptonian technology just like the Fortress of Solitude.
Superman finds out that Krypto buddy is actually an artificial intelligence from Krypton that has evolved since the destruction of their world.

He escaped Krypton just like Kal-El did and his real name is Brainiac. He has been going from planet to planet, taking their technology, helping these worlds reach a relative perfection and then he destroys them and moves on.

Superman also finds out that he was actually responsible for the destruction of Krypton and tries to warn the leaders of the world but is confronted by Braniac. A massive battle ensues and Superman is about to defeat his foe but right just before Brainiac downloads his conscience into one oh his other clones.

Superman realizes that he must destroy this massive ship along with all the clones aboard. After another massive battle he is able to disable the ship, destroy the clones and the new Braniac but right before the ship is destroyed the Braniac main frame does a local search for another body that he could download in to, it has to be Kryptonian, and he finds another one on Earth, Superman's kid

Jason White.

So Brainiac uses Kryptonian technology and beams/download itself into Jason's body and this causes causes him to age and grow into a full adult but with Brainiac in complete control.

Superman realizes what just happened and rushes to confront his very own son who is now possessed by Brainiac.

Is Jason still there or is it all Brainiac? It's all Braniac and Superman knows what he has to do, he must defeat Brainiac at all costs or the planet and it's inhabitants will be doomed.

It's a battle between two gods but Superman has already been run ragged and beat down pretty bad in his previous battles of the day. Brainiac has the upper hand and Superman is trying to not to do any permanent damage to Jason's body.

Every time Brainiac is defeated in the past he simply tries to download to another clone and leaves that body completely brain dead but with no other bodies left, will Jason survive? The answer in no.

There is a Christ like metaphor here. Superman has to sacrifice his own son to save humanity.

There are still plenty of holes left in this story, we were not privy to all the details but this is the bulk of the info we received.

^ Great. So Singer's grand idea for a sequel reached a crescendo when Superman has to fight a 10 year old kid? LOL Thank God he got sent back to the X-Men. That whole description reads like bad fanfic. He takes two of the worst aspects of SR, the kid and the ridiculous Kryptonian island, and makes them two of the biggest parts of the sequel? Ugh.

Then again this came from IESB who has just about zero credibility anymore after the whole JLA movie fiasco.

What is it with Singer and trying to make the Superman franchise so depressing? It's so supposed to be uplifting and inspiring. I don't want to watch Superman kill his own son.

The only redeeming feature of SR was the Silver Age Superman level of strength Superman showed by lifting the continent of Kryptonite/rock into space.

I mean, it's rare that anyone shows Superman doing Silver Age level feats anymore.

Beats moving the moon out of orbit in Superman 4. :)

I'm almost sure they're gonna realign everything with the comics by the end of the show, they've said it (the producers) themselves after season 8, whether that means a complete mindwipe or not we'll just have to wait and see...
Why is it people think the producers are going to do a mindwipe?

Yeah, they're trying to line up with the mythos, they said that mostly to get people to stop trying to hit them with axes over Jimmy Olson. :)

They do a mindwipe on Smallville, and the national guard would not have enough man power to stop the crew from being burnt at the stake by a mob of angry fans.

China has what, 200 million people in their army? Yeah, Tom Welling would have to hire the entire Chinese army to protect him and the crew if they did that.

And sadly, I'm not exaggerating by that much. :(
I wish I was, but I'm not.

I know. I'm just tired of people constantly bringing it up, like it will happen.

People can have their own views, and their own ideas, that doesn't bother me.
I just know for a fact that if Smallville tried that, they would need an army to stop the angry fans from putting the crew to death via drawn and quartering.

Literally having their arms and legs torn off by horses traveling in 4 different directions.
Do I need to explain how unpleasant that would be? :)

That idea sounds even worse than SR was.

*shudders*

Same feelings trip and I am glad singer is no where around now having nolans/goyer/snyder on this film I am sure is going to be done correctly.
