"Here We Go Again" Part 4: New Welling As Superman Rumors?

I seem to recall the costume designer of SR saying that they had to alter the final suit in the movie because it was originally designed for a much bigger actor. I need to peruse the Bonus Features on the SR DVD again, but I remember speculating with Pat and the others if this was a clue that Welling had indeed tested for the movie (remember the brouhaha of August 2004?)

Anyway, maybe they held on to the original suit Welling tested in? Here's hoping because I'm almost certain the Smallville crew is NOT redesigning a new Superman costume for the show.

That's what I've telling people. The very same second they decided to bring that..thing, as the shows official suit, it was done for good. Even if they make a new one to fit Welling better, it'd be one based on that suit. But I suppose if they just made a new belt and opened the neckline more, I'd be fine with it.

Oh, and as for Cavill, happy as hell about his casting, but those gay rumors have me worried, I hope it's just ********.

What difference does it make if he's gay or not? His sexuality has nothing to do with the role. If he plays it well and the script is good, that's all that matters. And I have no problem with the SR suit whatsoever, so if Tom wears this costume I wouldn't mind it at all. Still have no idea why so many people are *****ing about it. Ok, the S is too small. I don't see anything else wrong with it.

I Just didn't like routh. It will look better on Tom

It makes a huge difference because I would rather have the most powerful superhero of them all be played by a straight dude,. I can just imagine the jokes now...ugh. Superman gets enough **** for his appearance, and if the actor playing him happens to actually be gay, it just opens up for so much crap that I would rather avoid. Routh got a lot of crap when he in fact is straight, I cannot imagine the **** storm Cavill and the movie will get if it is true. So yeah, I'm really hoping those dumb as rumors are nothing but made up trash.

As for the suit, allow me to explain why people complain so much.
TEN YEARS of loyal viewership, TEN YEARS of waiting for that iconic last moment, And I certainly wouldn't accept it being crapped all over with a suit I've ( and many others) have hated since that dreaded day the world was tainted by its ugly appearance.
I've always loved Smallville and looked forward to this moment since the very first episode. So no, I personally am not going to just accept it.

GTFO Cavill!

Routh got crap for it because of his wooden performance. Someone having a problem with Cavill's sexuality sounds ridiculous to me. Rumors or not. That's like hating on the Kingpin because he was black in Daredevil. And again - what exactly is the problem with this costume? What is so ugly about it? How is Chris Reeve's costume "iconic" and this one "ugly"? Again - it makes no gotdamn difference to me what suit Tom wears because I am not a fan of SR suit. I just have no idea why people are so hateful towards it. And btw didn't tptb say that the suit was just a prop for the scenes in the premiere?

Then so be it, because I'd have a major problem with it, no matter what anyone said. I f the whole God damn world rose up and objected to that kind of reaction, I still wouldn't care. The actor playing Superman should be straight, period.

You, it makes no difference to YOU. It makes hell of a difference to me. Hate that ****ing thing.

LOL ok dude, whatever. You still didn't answer me why exactly you hate this costume so much or why you think is so ugly but really, whatever. We'll see what happens in the final moments of the show. Hope you'll be satisfied.

PS: So am I! :D

It shouldn't need explaining. If you have a set of eyes, you should be able to see it yourself.

Oh and also, I really, truly, sincerely doubt I'm gonna be satisfied with the ending of this show. Let's just say I have my reasons.

Yes, I have a set of eyes. :D And I still don't get why. :) Because they made the S smaller? Because they made the cape, the trunks and the boots darker? Because they took away the yellow S on the back? Because they put an S on the belt? If that's why, then this is just a typical case of fanboys not being able to accept change. Some "change" but wtv.

It's hard to be satisfied these days.

They better put their heart and soul in that series finale, and blow all their budget till the last penny. It should've all the perfect ingrediants to make it satisfactory.

Where to begin ? From the horrible maroon and dark blue that makes you think you're watching evil Superman from Superman 3, to the horrible SR emblem which is also too small, to the tight neckline, to the cape with no yellow symbol in the back, to the belt, to the sewing lines. It's so bad I can't even write about it without cringing. Mike is right when he called it "that thing".
Sure Tom will look better than Routh but like I said time and time again, not even Chris could make that "thing" work.
They should've gone with Chris suit. Or tried to design something themselves because quite frankly it couldn't be any worse than...that "thing".

When they were at WB tv they had a rumored 4 million dollars for season premieres and finales (and 2 million for each of the remaining episodes). When they went to the CW it's been said that that budget has been cut at least a bit. Add to that this recent development and you can tell it's gonna be hard to make a true finale that lives up to everybody's expectations.
Unless Features injects a few more millions so that the SV/TW fans stay quiet about the recent casting decision.
Either way, they're counting on us going quietly in the night after the show ends and disbanding from message boards such as these where we can air our complaints. We can still make enough of a noise that they may have to do something: inject more money in the finale, have a better suit, or even decide to do direct to tv/dvd Superman movies with Tom (which I wouldn't have any doubt would make more profit than the one that's coming up in the long run.).
And I can still remember years ago when a certain movie called Back to the Future was cast with an actor called Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly who started to shoot the movie only to be replaced midway by a guy called Michael J. Fox who turned out to be more memorable in that role.
ANYTHING can happen.

Very True:yay:

I hope the finale is a true 2hr finale meaning episode 22 is made as 2hrs. I don't see why it would be a problem at all. Would just suck if ep 21 and 22 are just aired in same night. Also ya if we get alot of superman stuff and a true 2hr episode it would be our sv movie which would be nice.

As for the sr suit in sv. I clearly rememer them saying it was only used as a prop given to them by wb archives mesum. So I still doubt that actual suit would be used on tom or in any action scenes. Because I doubt archives would let them do that. Plus its probably was given back to archives after lazarus filming anyway. Then second that suit was taliiored to routh back in 2005 and wouldn't fit tom. I am still sure tom will have his own suit. I doubt budget is much of issue. After they gone through so many other heroes and villains looks so far over the yrs and this yr. If anything I still think sv will have its own suit. Just the look will probably be based off sr suit. But look a little different and possibly made of different materials.

As for the reboot can't wait to get some real story details to finally come out soon enough. And I so can't wait to see who else joins the cast. Saw rumor/news earlier about possible lois contenders in kristen stewart(heck no), jessica biel, malin ankerman, dianna agron, and rachael mcadams. Out of this list if they are final choices I would be happy with ankerman/biel/mcadams. Stewart I don't want and agron I don't really know her work. So I have no love or hate for her.

Actually, they had to ask Routh's trainer to stop making him bigger so that he'd still fit in the suit. From what I could tell from the DVD, they didn't start making prototype suits until Routh was cast.

Bruce, i think you are missing a huge point in this discussion.
Basically you’re saying that the movie will fail because Welling was not cast as Superman/Clark Kent, and that every 4 million Smallville fans are going to boycott Snyder’s reboot.
The main problem of this logic is that not every single person that watches Smallville every week or downloads it are diehard fans.
Simply look at this thread and you will see that many of regular posters are either cautiously satisfied or happy with the casting.
And I have to remind you that contrary to your belief, Smallville is far from having a HUGE world wide following, but it has an extremely loyal and passionate fan base.
You makes it seems that Smallville is the most watched tv series in the world and that all its viewers are unable to accept nothing but a movie based on it or with Welling as the Man of Steel.
As a side note: that the story that you told about Michael J. Fox and Back to the Future is missing one thing: Michael J. Fox was the first option since the beginning of the project, but the producers were unable to cast him because of Family Ties. When they realized that Eric Stoltz was not acting as they expected they convinced Michael J. Fox that he was the only actor that could and should do it.

More importantly some seem to miss the point that TOM WELLING DOES NOT WANT TO BE SUPERMAN. He did not audition. Snyder is open to Routh auditioning for the role but not Welling?
Welling did not audition because he didnt want the role.

I just don't understand why nobody ever asked him what happenned back in october 2004...

We may never know if he really wanted to be Superman in a movie...

Somebody out there will ask him if he wanted to play Superman in a movie soon enough. I'm really curious to see what he has to say about it. :D
