Hitman: Absolution - Part 1

I guess I'm ok with the fact that you still have to sneak around a bit if you are in disguise and that it's blown if you walk straight up to someone's face. You're a bald, angry looking dude, with a bar code/band aid on the back of your head. You kinda stand out. The only time this ever annoys me, if street vendors get in my face and blow my cover. Seriously? Do all street vendors know each other personally, that they rat my out to a cop and blow my cover when I come too close?

Yea the disguise system is fine. the old style would make this game way too easy. i agree with you tho, there should be some sort of scaling or something. dont think every street vendor or cop should be able to recognize every other street vendor etc.

I'm a lil deeper and my biggest gripe with the game so far aside from the linear sections (seriously, a bar fight? lol gtfo with that s**t.)

you dont have to do the bar fight. it was basically an interactive cutscene which was neat because there was a pretty cool easter egg in that level. same goes for that stupid video you posted earlier about the Sanchez elimination, ya dont have to do the lame QTE event.

Man, you don't have to do the Sanchez fight either? So much stuff I don't know. Where the hell is that cake? I really do need to explore more, this game has far more to it than I initially thought -and I already thought it was pretty darn good!

I didn't even do the Sanchez fight the very first time, because I couldn't figure out how to get the damn Wrestler away. Turned out all you had to do was make some noise to get him investigate.

Can you leave the ring?

You're unarmed and you still have to kill him, right? I wonder what other options there are. Looks like I'll need to go back to Hitman and do some exploring, as soon as I'm done with Sniper Elite.

That's the thing, everybody in similar clothing is suddenly suspicious of you to the point of confrontation. Hiding in plain sight was one of the best things about disguises. Now you can only hide in plain sight at designated locations, which sucks coz those places are only good for refilling the instinct bar. The rest of the time you have to press up against walls and crouch behind desks to move around coz everybody in the same clothes as you turns into Sherlock Holmes.

The old system may have made the game easier but this alternative isn't any better. At least it's easy enough to fix with some minor tweaks but I'm not sure how they'd go about doing that since it looks like they designed every part of the game with the new mechanics in mind. Even a simple fix like making it so people only confront you if you linger in their line of sight too long would be awesome.

So I can skip that section? I pointed it out coz it's a shoddy filler mission, same goes for the shooting range right after, or the whole escaping from the cops bit or working your way from the strip club back to chinatown. All this filler separating the sandboxes for the sake of narrative irks me, and it's even more annoying when missions are broken up into segments. Blood Money handled story just fine without forcing you through anything like that. Hopefully for the next game they work on cutting out that filler and focus more on the open level design. The level design of the previous games with the new, tight gameplay mechanics would be f**king incredible.

A bit random to bring up the Sanchez QTE lol, I don't have an issue with that aside from it being extremely comical and granting a Silent Assassin rating.

Yeah, there are a number of filler sections, but you never have to do the obvious things. You can get into the bar through a vent. At the gun range, you can sneak around and try to find the keys that open the gun case.

Well we know IO is looking in to some sort of fix, we just dont know what it'll be. Maybe it will be something like that.

That was an issue with Blood Money and the rest, the story was always "just fine" or "ok" . Absolution delivered a far more engaging story from start to finish. Those filler missions are what this series has needed to make the game feel more cohesive and they did just that. I dont think they will be going back to the old style of cutscene, level, cutscene, level etc.

Hah yea theres a few. You can snipe him, drop the lighting rig on him, us c4 to blow him up. There may be more but thats the only ones iv done.

My first kill was with the lighting rig. Then I figured out you could kick his ass personally and immediately went to do that.

haha same, altho i killed the patriot in the process and didnt realize you didnt have to until later(just have to wait until sanchez tosses his against the cage). i havent been able to snipe him and get away clean tho, not sure if you even can.

The gun range can be done in less than a minute if you sneak through the vent into the office.

I think a lot of the levels that are being called 'filler' are only classed that way because they can be solved quickly. There seems to be a lot more variety to Absolution than players (including myself) are giving it credit for. Sure you can stroll through the bar or quick-time Sanchez to death, but if we take our time and wander around there's obviously a lot more to be had from this game.

It's not so much that the game is linear, it's that our method of playing is linear. We're easily lead along because that's how most (non open-world) games work. When we're present with something that doesn't spoon feed us every option, we freak out.

It's definitely more linear than previous games. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it's a fact of life. Yes, there are still missions that have multiple ways to complete them, but there are quite a few that are just "get from checkpoint A to checkpoint B" missions with one linear path to do so. That's where the whole "it's more linear" comes in.

Previous Hitman games just kinda dropped you into a massive level with a target to kill and said "Good luck, 47."

I did the same thing. I figured you could probably fight him yourself, but I went for the lighting rig on my first try. I killed the Patriot as well, so I reloaded and waited for the right moment to drop it. I waited until Sanchez had the Patriot above his head and dropped the rigging just after he threw him.

Am I the only one in here who didn't immediately release the rig and spared Patriot on the first try?

Haha seems like it. I honestly don't think I even knew he was in the ring my first run through. Wasn't paying attention I guess.

I tried to time it so I wouldn't kill him the first time but he died anyway.

I didnt really care for how it looked visually, but i liked the idea of really getting to hurt Sanchez. Removing his arm from the socket was awesome and id of loved to do something similar to Dexter. Was disappointed that the Dexter hit was over so quick. Altho i guess getting to dome cap a half naked Layla helped a little bit hah.

I still have to replay that mission to complete it that way. I think I harpooned her ass so I didn't even know about that half nekkid scene.

Neither did I. The first time I sniped her off the building. The 2nd time I poisoned her sushi, then used instinct to just watch her through the wall, tripping balls, until she eventually fell once more to her death. Then I saw the clip and followed her to the hidden room. I think I really just need to follow targets more often and see where they end up.

Haha I haven't done the harpoon yet. Bet that's awesome. I still haven't figured how to get into the room with my suit tho. There's a little cutscene with 47 talking to Layla and I bet it's a lot cooler with the suit than the outfit of a guard.

I think I just shot her...god, the more you guys talk about it the more boring my first playthrough seems by comparison haha :D

I just rigged the dinosaur bones or whatever they were when Layla walked under them. I also took that sweet samurai disguise in her room.

Haha thats how it kinda goes man. You do your first run then you just start noticing all these various ways to kill your targets on subsequent playthroughs.

Great points overall, but I definitely agree with the bolded!

And now I've just found out about the HD collection coming on the 29th. Definitely picking it up... Can't wait to kill the Meat King's fat ass again in Contracts.
