I don't know if it will be considered a classic by movie buffs and "casual viewers", but I'm sure it will be considered a big landmark in the comic book genre, and not only a turning point for the X-Men franchise.

What do you think about it? Surely as hell it will be snubbed by the Academy, but who cares.

It will be considered among the best SHH films for now, not on the same leagues as The Dark Knight or Spider-Man 2, but possibly as the best of 2014. Why wouldn't it be snubbed by the Academy? It was a great film, but still had many problems, what made it so surprising was how it took these old and tired cliches (time traveling and post-apocalyptic world controled by machines), as well as a weird timeline full of problems and was able to give a very strong Film.

The X-Men franchise better keep this quality, if they once again sit on top of their past success like they did with Origins and Last Stand, it will face a decline again

"Spider-Man 2" is just a kid-friendly comedy/adventure superhero movie full of cliches and issues ---- I don't know why some people overrate that so much.

Anyway, Academy snubs Superhero movies. That's almost a cosmic law. Hopefully, they will pay attention this time!

To me, DOFP is just a 100% brilliant movie, near perfect.

So Spider-Man should be non kid friendly without humor and adventure

SM2 is not only fantastic with it's storytelling and characters but the action and set pieces are top notch. That's why it works and more then likely why the other well received ones (such as DOFP) work as well. Spider-Man was also one of the first movies since Superman to show you could make a solid Superhero flick that wasn't all dark and dreary and still be aweosme. The 90s were all about dark and serious comic flicks. And the first two that were not (Batman Forever and B&R) sucked! The first two Spidey films reflected the good and brighter fun side of comics more then any other film , while still retaining themes and characters that audiences could relate too. Hardly cliche for comic films at the time, if anything it led the way.

As for DOFP. Landmark? No. It didn't have that big of impact in pop culture or switch up anything in the forms of film making. DOFP will be recognized as the film that brought the X-Men films fully back on track and also as one of the more well received mainstream comic flicks of this decade.

It will never stop being seen as a really good movie but I think over time some of the logic flaws will be brought up more into the open once the hype has eased, DOFP has a lot of logic flaws

I agree that it's overrated and has to many cliches and issues

The film is visually nice but visually nice doesn't hide the major issues

Amazing CBM.

That and First class are both amazing X-Men films.

If Apocalypse is great I could see it being remembered as the best cbm "trilogy", even though its more of a pseudo trilogy

I think it will be remembered as one of the best films of 2014 and one of the best comic-book adaptations!

It'll remain a very popular CBM... For a few years, then it'll become popular to trash it

This.

The movie has some awesome action sequences, but it has a lot of logic flaws that ruined it for some people. I think they'll be discussed more and it'll be less praised over time. I'm certainly not saying it'll be seen as a bad movie though.

I think it'll be remembered as one CBM out of a solid year of CBM, but certainly not the best. GotG stole it's thunder there, and TWS is no slouch.

It's really hard, as Guardians pretty much proved to be the "underdog" of the year, not having a fan base at all, and turning out to be a hit.

DOFP in my opinion is the "underrated" comic book movie of the year, especially with the other two great comic book movies, Winter Soldier and Guardians.

I loved it. In my top five comic book movies for sure.

It will be received like X2.

Remembered fondly by general audiences but only fanboys will treat it like a must have collectible and top five SH movie.

I don't know about the general audience but for me DOFP has surpassed X2 as my favorite X-Men film, I don't think I will ever forget it.

I think it will also be remembered by those who study film and realize this is the first film to truly encompass both original casts and newer casts without making one or the other glorified cameos, but actual distinct characters that follow their prior movies' character, as opposed to just including cameos or original characters to cash in on the spirit of the loved past movies.

As for the Academy snubbing supehero/comic book movies; As much as I love all of them, none of them are worthy of an Academy Award for anything other than costumes, makeup, special effects. They're not just fluff, but not a single one of them is Oscar worthy.

The Oscars and Academy Awards are dumb anyways! :p

No they aren't. Anyone who actually believes that is just bitter one of their favorite movies/actors/composers/etc was never nominated or awarded a win.

One of the best of this genre, first to use time travel and using both casts to re-boot the franchise.

Huh underrated comic book of the year? It has a great user rating on IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes. How is that underrated? Plus its probably going to be the highest grossing comic-book film of 2014. No way its underrated.

As one of the best CBM's made and the one that put the X-series back fully on track after an indifferent period.

Maybe, I've just never cared for or had interest in them even win something I like wins.

I think when you compare it to the other comic book movies this year it seems underrated, especially compared to the overwhelming-ness of the two Marvel Studios titles. I don't know about DOFP being the highest grossing of 2014 at this point...

And Dofp didnt overwhelm? This is the first time I heard someone called Dofp underrated.

And worldwide it earned more money at the box office than those two movies.

Oh yeah I just thinking domestically, either way DOFP has done well and I'm glad.

I think the film will be remembered not only for it's record setting, but also as establishing how a film can save a franchise without needing to reboot it (see Amazing Spider-man). First Class was a prequel, and DoFP was the 'inbetwequal' as Bryan Singer termed it, that allowed the franchise to start a new course, without erasing the legacy of the prior films (aside from the continuity which needed realigning).
