How I Met Your Mother - Part 2

Ted was reading Love In the Time of Cholera while waiting at the train station. That was the favorite book of the "perfect match" Love Solutions found for Ted in the episode Milk (Season 1 Episode 21). He decided he didn't want perfect and decided to pursue Robin instead.

I've had that theory for a while, where the girl Ted was supposed to meet that night was actually the mother, and in retrospect, it was better that he didn't because he was still in love with Robin so he wouldn't have been right for her at the time.
The episode was meh. I loved the part with Barney and Andrea, but this episode was merely setup.

The ending was amazing. Loved the music and the speech. I think Klaus speech is a perfect setup for the end. I really hope this season is the end.
Yeah, they did say that the premiere would mark the beginning f the end for the series, the only question is will they make the right decision in ending it now, or will CBS convince them to do another season.

But they've really set the wheels in motion to end this. Kinda reminds me of when they finally teased the suit in Smallville, except in that case, it was already known that it would be the final season.

Honestly, before last night, I wasn't against another season of Ted pursuing the mother and seeing how they finally get together, but I honestly think the wheels are already in motion for this to be the last season. That was a pretty strong scene last night and I'd rather them put all their focus on making this last season the best it could be than stretching it out. I say end it on a high.

Though it's a slightly different scenario (though it could be more like it as things develop), I don't want to see another Scrubs like that BS ABC tried to do.

Not a great opener, but ok. This show has been and continues to be one giant **** tease. The payoff better be this season.

I think its funny that Barney pretty much told the whole story that Ted's been telling for 8 year in 1 minute

What a wonderful episode. Poor Victoria. She is going to technically get dumped by two guys on her wedding day. Couple things that caught my eye.

Ted has his hand bandaged. Must have really been a bad day lol.

Did you guys notice the Taxi cab's license plate number? 2W86d. They love to play with numbers in the show, what if it means something? 2 weeks 86 days is what my crazy theory. January 12th is the end of the 2nd week of the year. Add 86 days to that and you get Monday April 9th. Mother revealed?

The Taxi's meter also shows 12.20. Might be something as well.

Just to add to this, because I read about it somewhere else, they also showed her ankles because they were the only thing Ted saw when he was at her roommate's apartment.

SWEET ending to the episode. Welcome back HIMYM. I've missed you...

I could be wrong, but I think the ending more or less seems to indicate that Ted will just merely meet the mother and the show will end with that scene, and there probably won't be much of showing why she is the one or her playing for a few episodes. Maybe they'll just smile at each other and share the umbrella, and she'll say that Love in the time time of cholera is also her favourite book. Then Ted will probably say that it was then he knew that this girl was right for him, and it will cut to him saying "and that, kids, is how I met your mother."

That would be annoying.

Yeah, that's no good.

I mean, love at first sight?... that's like RotS "She lost the will to live" level nonsense.

I assume they will have a montage showing them falling in love, getting married, her giving birth, ect.

If by "montage", you mean "Season 9". :awesome::awesome::awesome:

Don't care if the show is called How I Met Your Mother, I really do want a season of us getting to know her and seeing why she is the one.

It wouldn't be surprising though since Ted falls in love with every woman so quickly

Yes, it would be annoying. I've always hoped they would show Ted and the mother's relationship for a bit. Hopefully then, Barney's wedding won't be right at the finale of season 8 (or if it is we get a Season 9). However, in season 7 it had a flash forward of Barney getting married to someone, and that was only picked up in the finale, so they could be following the same pattern again. I think they did a similar thing with Season 6 as well.

But from the mood of the scene with Ted sitting in the rain at Farhampton, it almost seems to suggest that things didn't really go according to plan that day. I don't know if that means that Barney and Robin didn't get married or that something else happened. He said to that old woman that it was a long story and didn't want to talk about it before launching into his recount of the events.

It also looks like it wasn't exactly at the wedding either that Ted met the mother, but at that pitstop.

Now will they pick up the Victoria thread next week and show how he decided not to run away with her, or is that just to be assumed that he didn't from the speech with Klaus?

I think they've been teasing the wedding since the start of season 6, revealing a little bit of info each time in the premiere and the finale of season 6 and 7. I think now, all the big surprises are over, and now its just a matter of how we get there.

I think its a very tricking situation, because I can't help but feel like there's going to be some kind of twist. They've done it before when they've mentioned something about the future and then either changed it up a bit or made it not as significant when they finally got to it. I find it hard to believe that it's going to be as simple as Ted going to train station and meeting her because it's what everyone is going to be expecting and will be looking for in whatever episode they reveal her in.

I think the wedding will take place in the middle of this season. The second half will be about Ted and the mother and the finale will be him proposing.

It had better be. But following the pattern of previous seasons, the flash forward in the premiere is normally only picked up in the finale.

And I agree with others who have said that the focus has shifted away from Ted. Maybe part of the reason Barney has been so prominent is because he's regarded as the breakout star and the most popular character, so CBS have tried to put more emphasis on him, sometimes to the detriment of Ted.

Also, I agree that Ted has been written slightly differently as the seasons have progressed. There was some point where he started to become more like Dr Frasier Crane - one episode that really highlighted it was the party he went to where there was that invitation they discovered belonging to the woman whose mail was always delivered to Ted and Marshall's apartment. I forget which season that was. The whole scene at the party looked like it belonged more fittingly in Frasier.

I mean, love at first sight?... that's like RotS "She lost the will to live" level nonsense.

Isn't that kind of what Klaus was saying to Ted though in his speech? That you know immediately that this person is the one when you meet her and that it's not just something that develops over time? That's what Ted was asking about with regard to Victoria. So with the mother, he'll probably say then that he did know and have that feeling, just like how Klaus described.

Barney's 52 second recap was the best.

Waiting to see how Ted and Victoria get along this time around. I know she's not the mother, but I really like her.

Are they going to get along at all? Is she even going to play? I thought Klaus's speech at the end was indicative of the fact that even Ted thought she wasn't really the one, so that was probably the end of things.

Yeah, is she even going to be around after that? The impression I got was that Ted was going to tell her it was a bad idea once he got back into the car, unless breaking up with Victoria for a second time is going to be his dilemma for most of the season.

She'll be around for about the whole first half of the season.
