How I Met Your Mother - Part 4

I considered the Captain too, but I haven't heard anything about MacLachlan showing up this season, so I assume not.

Lily's reason for the argument was pretty weak.

I assumed it was Ranjit. I thought I got a good look at the driver's hand, but that could have been me seeing/remembering what I want.

Good organic moment. I thought Marshall went a bit far with the consolation prize jab, but Lily didn't have all that strong of a hand to me in this play.
Probably the Mother. It'd be funny if it was Scooter.
I'd roll. :lmao:

I kinda wish he had brought up the fact that he's taken on **** jobs at places he was firmly against to pay off her massive debt, rather than going all the way back to the San Francisco thing. I mean, I guess that wouldn't factor into her art career/hobby as well, but still. He's been making sacrifices for her more than she has for him.

I always thought her name was Tracy, based on the the Stripper theory, back from season 1 thanksgivings episode

you know, where a stripper introduces her self to Ted saying her name is Amber(being her stripper name), then saying "my real name is Tracy" to which future Ted jokingly tells the kids "an that's how I met your mother" and they react with "WHAT!!!" acting all shocked

why would they be so, shocked unless that was her real namer
Hmm, that's pretty interesting. But it makes me wonder how Ted tells the story now. I mean, we knew what Robin's name was in the pilot, but the kids seemed so surprised at the end when he said that that was how he met their Aunt Robin. So I wonder if Ted leaves out little details, and how much of it is actually told to the kids.

I think they went with the San Francisco thing because she went behind his back and signed up for the fellowship knowing damn well that it was going to hurt Marshall. Honestly, when the fight was just beginning and Lily said she had never been selfish, that was the first thing that popped into my head and I was so happy to see them address it, even though it should have been water under the bridge at that point. But there are a lot more parallels of Lily following her dream behind Marshall's back and Marshall following his dream behind hers.

I don't think we got her name until the end of that episode when he said "Aunt Robin".

She entered the back passenger seat of the car. I'm thinking it's Ranjit.
I rewatched this scene and it looked like a man's hand which admittedly means nothing but she definitely got in the back seat like a taxi or a hired car. It's late at night, after 2 am, she doesn't know the mother that well yet though she does know Ranjit, who is a driver so that's a possiblity. I'm thinking more likely it's the Captain, and he sent his driver to retrieve her so they can talk over this planned trip to Italy.

One thing that I kept thinking as this fight went on though is that why couldn't Marshal (and possibly Marvin) stay in New York while Lily (and possibly Marvin) go to Italy? It was meant to only be one year, not a permanant move so it's the compromised outcome.

It was established already that Lily didn't want to leave Marshal and Marvin for a full year, and vice versa (though Marshal was willing to let her go). Hence, why Marshal was gonna be leaving New York (putting his career on hold) to spend that year in Italy with Lily. However, Marshal's career as an environmental lawyer was floundering, influencing his decsion. Though obviously, he made a bid to become a judge.

Plans change though. And with Marshal having a chance for his dream to come true, and for Lily's too, that one year apart must seem more reasonable now than before.

You are now making me question everything I thought I ever knew about this show. :csad:

A question about that. Remember back when Martin Short was Marshall's boss? At one point narrator Ted had a line about how they "saved the world." I'm wondering if they'll address this again at some point.

I would think they kind of have to if the episode is more or less hers. I mean, this show has it's way of worming out of stuff like this, but this is kind of a big one.

Going an entire episode without saying her name while she stars in it would be tricky.

Of course, there are some people who never use other people's names. They just say "hey" or some other impersonal thing.

While that's true, going the entire episode without a single person mentioning her name is stretching it.

Well it's about time they revealed it anyway. They just did with Penny and Luke Mosby in the last episode, and there's no better time than the 200th episode for the Mother. They had better not delay it until the last episode. I don't see any benefit in doing that.

With the format of the episode, I can kind of see them dropping the name before the opening sequence even kicks off.

Well if they do, I'm sure there won't be a big song and dance about it, but it will be pretty matter of fact, just like they did when they revealed Ted's children's names.

I wonder if Luke has anything to do with Luke Skywalker? The guys are pretty big on Star Wars afterall.

In an earlier episode he revealed that he wanted to name his kids Luke and Leia. Looks like he got his wish for one of the kids at least.

But why is Ted the one who has influence over what the kids are called? Why aren't they named after something meaningful to the mother?

Maybe the Mother likes pennies and Star Wars too. :o
