How I Met Your Mother - Part 4

They could have always changed their mind after the fan complaining

I always figured the mother was dead. That or Ted is dead & the story is being told by video. More than likely the mother is dead though.

I think/hope not.

I just keep thinking back to their original plan, before they decided to weave the Mother into the final season. I just can't imagine them doing the final scene, showing Ted meeting the Mother (the first time we'd ever see her) and then hearing Bob Saget go "Aaaaaaaaand she's dead now. That's how I met your mother, kids."

I'm sure if they went that route it would be a little more emotional and seriously handled than that.

There was a major reason for this very long story though and not just a sit down for story time. A new brother/sister is likely, and there's the remote possiblity of divorce too.

I really don't think it's a divorce. That would destroy everything that they've been building in the show between Ted and the mother.

My money is on either another kid, or one of the kids recently got a girlfriend/boyfriend.

That sounds more like it. If it were death or a divorce, Ted's storytelling would not have been as happy as it has been. It would have had a more rueful or even bitter tone to it, and more of a sense of hopelessness. He wouldn't have talked in terms of "if X happened, I wouldn't have met your mother." It would've been more like "I wouldn't have met your mother, but not that it matters that I did anyway, because we weren't destined to stay together or she wasn't going to live long so it's all really pretty pointless."

That is why I put the words "remote possibility" in there.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of one of the kids getting a significant other. Maybe at prom or something.

Seems like the perfect time to have that talk, and it fits with the levity of future Ted's story telling.

Great episode. Made up for last week's filler.

They just followed up the single most needless episode of the series with quite possibly their best. Well done, HIMYM. Well done indeed... if this is an indication of what's to come for the remainder, I'll forgive this season for all it's other shortcomings.

I love the names reveal. As we all know, [blackout]Ted's always had a fascination with Pennies.[/blackout] The season two callback with Barney's job and the flash forward were great as well.

Good stuff tonight. I actually cared what was happening. That's been hit or miss for far too long.

So will we know the mother's name?

Also

The mother is a musician when we meet her. Perhaps it's as simple as she's on tour with her band when Ted tells the story? And perhaps the story is told in much quicker time than in real life?

Holy crap. This one episode made up for an entire season of crap. Just everything about this episode was magnificent. Just magnificent. Wow

So who do you think picked Lilly up at the hotel? Could it have been The Mother?

Honestly, I don't get this line of thinking, at all. I'm thinking it's more likely that it literally just started off with him telling them, "Yeah, I'll tell you how I met your Mom," and it turned into a ridiculously long winded story. I don't think there needs to be a "reason" for the telling at all. Was there a reason the narrator was telling the story of his life in The Wonder Years? No, he just was.

I'd prefer it if they kept it at that for this story.

I might have to rewatch but she got into the backseat. I thought it was the driver that usually picks them up. The windows were tinted though so it probably is the mother.

She entered the back passenger seat of the car. I'm thinking it's Ranjit.

Yeah, they seem to be giving all the characters one last shot. Could be his turn.

From previous Flash Forwards we know that Marshall does become a judge & that Lily ends up doing her thing. So I guess they eventually come 2 an agreement. Or they just end up getting divorced

I didn't think about Ranjit. Maybe it is him.

Well there's the episode that is titled "Daisy" so the speculation about that is that that might be in reference to the Mother. It could also be about the flower, but we know hat her favorite flowers are Lilacs, so chances are that it's used in the name sense.

I thought it might have been the mother at first, but its more likely that it's Ranjit. First off because it was late at night and the driver seemed to arrive right away, whereas in the scene right after with Ted and the Mother, it looked like it was a valet driving the car up, since the mother was in the front passenger's seat.

Also, the Mother was driving a van to the wedding, so I assume that that's her car, or one she was borrowing since we also know that she takes a cab to the train station after the wedding, which could imply that she doesn't own a car at that point. But the car that picked up Lily looked like a cab, specifically Ranjit's cab.

Nah, they still seem like they're married til the end. I think Lily will realize how selfish she was and I'm really glad that the writers brought that back up because that was their big moment in the series, and also what introduced us to the Pause-Unpause thing.

I know the whole Barney stuff was supposed to be the big draw to this episode, but I'm so glad that they let Marshall and Lily fight and say the things that they did because it felt real and ruthless for their characters, who have always seemed to be the perfect couple. And again, I love how Marshall was honest and called Lily out on her "love" for Art, and how its more of a hobby than a dream.

So will we know the mother's name?
I always thought her name was Tracy, based on the the Stripper theory, back from season 1 thanksgivings episode

you know, where a stripper introduces her self to Ted saying her name is Amber(being her stripper name), then saying "my real name is Tracy" to which future Ted jokingly tells the kids "an that's how I met your mother" and they react with "WHAT!!!" acting all shocked

why would they be so, shocked unless that was her real name

So who do you think picked Lilly up at the hotel? Could it have been The Mother?
I assumed, either the Captain himself, or that he sent a car for her
