How I Met Your Mother - Part 4

Watched the Finale. This was bull****. Plain and simple. I have nothing more to say about it.

I'd still consider Robin his consolation prize. If the Mother didn't pass away he never would have left her for Robin.

They were both each others consolation prize.

Which is what makes there getting together even worse.

God, this could've been the perfect ending, but it was executed so poorly. So much so that this finale will reach legend- WAIT FOR IT-Dary status for how bad it is.

I loved the ending though I can see why people are faulting it. We should've had the season split in two, first half dedicated to Barney and Robin's wedding and the second half leading up to the events of the mothers illness, her death and the aftermath. However, even though this hour long finale was crammed, it still worked for me and I'm good with the Robin endgame.

No one ever said that you can't have two great loves in your lifetime and Ted has. For every 'destiny moment' this show gave the mother character, there has been equal or more moments between Robin and Ted where they both realized "Wait a sec, maybe I'm supposed to be with him/her..." after their relationship ended. Leaving Ted was always Robin's greatest mistake and they constantly reminded us of that.

Ted and Robin have had dormant feelings for each other for a long time - she wanted to elope with him at her own wedding. He convinced himself he wasn't in love with her anymore, but thats all it was - him convincing himself. When you're in love with someone as hard as Ted was in love with her, it never goes away 100%. The only thing that neutralized it was the love he felt for Tracy, and after six years how much longer is that supposed to make him deny the chemistry he has with Robin? Especially since they had apparently been remaining friendly and seeing each other from what his kids said.

This pretty much all the way. It really would've worked better if we'd had some episodes to draw out Ted and Tracy's marriage without just flash forwards here and there but within the context of what we got, I still felt sad when we saw the brief moment of them in the hospital and then the realization that she did indeed die. I, myself, got married and loved the woman intensely and although she didn't die, she got her dream job offered to her out of country and I couldn't leave due to my own commitments so we separated and divorced and I have now ended up with my high school sweetheart, are married and have kids. Some things just end up working out in a way that something from your past returns and you just realize even though your life took you on a journey, some people you're just meant to end up with. I've lived it and within' the context of this show, I fully see Robin and Ted being endgame and it makes sense to me. At that point in time, Tracy was the woman Ted needed but Robin was always going to be 'the one.'

PS. Looks like Marshall won the bet between him and Lily.

I guess I was right to quit this show around episode 4 of this season. Sounds like they **** the whole bed with this season.

Has Sawyer gave his thoughts on the finale?

Not yet, but I kinda spoiled it for him. :O

People have spent months speculating that the mother would die, so no one was expecting a happy ending. In fact, the ending fans expected was a lot darker than what we actually got.

Really? Because the level of denial from people about that happening, on this board too, was insane. People were mass deluding themselves about what was going on and I think it tinged their reception of this ep.

That's fine and all, but why waste an entire season on their wedding? Is anyone ever gonna sit through season 9 again?

Why watch any of the eps with the mother knowing she's going to die? If they entertained you watching then, they should entertain you on repeat.

I have nothing against that but the execution was awful. They killed the mother and had Ted hook up with Robin in like 5 minutes. In retrospect, Barney and Robin's wedding should have happened 2 weeks ago. Tonight's episode should have happened last week. And the actual one-hour finale should have dealt with the mother's death and the re-kindled romance between Ted and Robin.

I wouldn't have had a problem with this. We're in agreement on this point pretty much, all stemming from them killing off the mother so quickly with no exposition around it.

Fans having a problem with the execution of the episode I can understand. Having a problem with the way things shook out with each character I don't. Imagine these people existing in real life - this is EXACTLY what would have happened to each of them.

Which means it will be a quality show, but will get lousy ratings and will lose to the like of TBBT.

Something tells me that the all of the fans who were spurned by this finale will make that show a ratings smash.

This show and the finale WAS about destiny. Ted was destined to end up with Robin, the girl we'd grown with as part of the family and as an integral part of Ted's life over 9 seasons and the first girl he truly loved.

Tracy was the love of his life, but Robin was the girl of his destiny. Its a little bit of a bummer, but it makes sense.

The writers made people get invested in a character that was a glorified road block between Ted and Robin. Lame.

Been watching this show from the beginning but don't normally post in here. I gotta say that the overall finale was ok. I don't think i'd have a problem with ted ending up with robin if the kids had a different mother. the mother and ted really had good chemistry and it was nice to see ted happy. i mean, after all these years, he found the perfect girl for him. since the ending was planned out from the beginning, i think i'd rather have victoria be the mother or the psycho. cristin miloti is awesome!

So Ted ends up with RObin? Explain the whole Robin and Barney thing...then. please. I haven't been keeping tabs on this show since season 3 or 4 I can't remember...I've always been a Ted/Robin shipper...always will be... Good to know that Ted has always been destined to be with Robin... I wouldn't mind seeing the finale...is it online yet?

I want to gloat and say the mother is dead theory is right but this ending was so disappointing to actually pull that trigger. I don't think it was terrible but it was not handled well.

I'm still torn on it. It was a great finale... right up until the revelation she died then it stumbled. And Ted waited six years to get back together with Robin. Six years so anyone who says he was banging Robin the second his wife died clearly was not paying attention. He clearly mourned his wife, she was clearly a great love in his life, just as Robin was. He had two women who were very important to him. One was the mother of his children, the other was his first great love, Robin.

The kids even said to go for it, to call her. They seem to think it's a good idea. Robin will be their stepmother and she'll have children in a sense even though she never wanted them, or so she thought until she found out she could never have them that devestated her.

So now she's Ted's kids mother. It's not a perfect ending, it's not the traditional happy ending but I still think it is a happy ending for the most part. We don't know what Barney's life is like with his daughter's mother but the man clearly loves his daughter so there is that.

All that said, I still don't know what I really think of how they did it. Happy ending for the characters or not, it was not the ending I think anyone was expecting.

I didn't hate the finale but damn Tracy was so good for him. I loved the scene where Barney met his true love Elle.

Best part of the entire Finale. That was just a fantastic moment for Barney.

I guess I was right to quit this show around episode 4 of this season. Sounds like they **** the whole bed with this season.

They pretty much ruined the show for me with this Episode. Call it an overreaction, but I have no desire to ever re-watch any of the Episodes. Maybe the ducky tie one, because that is just too funny, but that's it. I'm just done with this show.

I've never been into the show, but did the finale explain how he became Bob Saget or not?

I cried twice to be honest. I cried when Barney was talking to his daughter and saw Tracy in the hospital bed. :(

I have mixed feelings on the ending. I want to hate it because it was such a d*ck move for them to do, but the fact I never saw it coming evens the score.
