I have pretty high expectations to the trailer, but I'm pretty sure it will blow me away anyway. As long as there's some evil Lex, good Clark/Superman acting and some more cool Superman shots like the one infront of the sun in the teaser I will be happy. I'm really hoping that they'll show a bit from the plane rescue scene.

Everyone in the industry understands that a trailer can make or break a film of this size and we can expect to be blown away in the next few weeks. Will the trailer contain:

Scenes with Krypton in tatters? Check

Clark being found by his mother after he crashed? Check

Clark being greeted back at the Daily Planet? Check

Clark and Lois interacting? Check

Lex scheming? Check

Shots of Superman flying? Check

Loads of action shot culminating with him trying to save the plane? Check

The action and flying scenes will be new to all of us. If the Showest footage was anything to go by, we are going to get blown away!

I really don't fear it being a let down, as we know we are going to get to see flying effects, parts of the plane sequence, etc. But that doesnt guarantee a "good" trailer to the general public. I'm already sold on the movie. The trick is selling to the people who are indifferent/negative. Even if the trailer is poor (which it probably won't be), there is always word of mouth advertising.

The trailer for Serenity sucked. Then I kept hearing how good the movie was and saw it, and loved it. I think the problem was that for once they didn't give everything away in the movie, so you could actually watch with anticipation. So many trailers are "fake" in the sense they are created just to sell a crap movie, and that they give away too much of the plot, that its weird to see one that doesnt.

For Superman Returns, it's at least going to be better than the mish-mash X3 trailer by default, right?

But of course, with this I'm not sure I'm going to care if they give away everything in the trailer, because I've been here for years, and the game is up. It might be nice to be completely surprised, but as it is now I'll just have to wait and see what Bryan has up his sleeve. You know there's more to the film than he's letting on.

Yeah, the fact that all we've really gotten is some pictures and a VERY short (though still very effective) teaser is frustrating as hell. It's like this one time I saw this actor on a late night talk show (can't remember who it was) and he was promoting a movie but instead of bringing a clip of the film, he brought PICTURES of him and some of the other actors in certain scenes. I don't remember if it was a joke or if he was just an idiot, but either way, I remember being pissed.

Let me make it really clear for everybody.

This trailer will not live up to your expectations. The film will not live up to your expectations. That's because your expectations seem to include Jesus Christ playing hockey with Vishnu while Yogi Berra does commentary.

Everybody needs to realize what this is going to hopefully be: a fun, beautiful, well-shot and well-acted fantasy action movie. Nothing more, nothing less. Its relative value to you will be entirely up to you and your opinion. But to try to objectify this film's merit is pointless. It is completely subjective.
