Superman Returns How many FEAR the theatrical trailer for "SR" will end up beeing a TOTAL LET-DOWN?!

Let me make it really clear for everybody.

This trailer will not live up to your expectations. The film will not live up to your expectations. That's because your expectations seem to include Jesus Christ playing hockey with Vishnu while Yogi Berra does commentary.

Everybody needs to realize what this is going to hopefully be: a fun, beautiful, well-shot and well-acted fantasy action movie. Nothing more, nothing less. Its relative value to you will be entirely up to you and your opinion. But to try to objectify this film's merit is pointless. It is completely subjective.

Agreed fully.

Thanks for predicting my future, Matches. Now that I know the trailer will disappoint, I can stop looking forward to it. Hell, the film may disappoint too. I think I'll stop waiting for it as well. If that's the case, what am I doing on a messageboard talking about it?

I was over-generlizing for the sake of impact. I never said you would be disappointed. I said it would not live up to most people's insanely high expectations here.

I encountered it on the Batman boards last year. Everybody talking about oscars and life-changing experiences before the film was released. Batman Begins was a great film. Life-changing? Uh, no. Oscar-worthy? Maybe in the designs. Definitely not for the film as a whole.

Fandom, like most macroscopic human behavior, is inherently predictable.

I could kiss you, but I would have to shave. :O

LOL. My expectations aren't THAT high, Matches. But since I've liked most of what I've seen so far, I shouldn't have to worry.

I just saw the trailer. It didn't live up to my expectations.

Very true Matches, what you have said sums up all that I expect this movie to be.

LIFE CHANGING expectations...im LAMO

ive yet to see a superman film on the silver screen thats all im excited bout....i get to see one and for people who take this stuff too serious... the trailer will kick butt and no worrys its just a movie...let it go! also oscars will only be for music score or visual effects.... this is not My Cousin Vinny here..there wont be a best actor or actress in this film

This trailer NEEDS to be good and it NEEDS to show up SOON. Why? Let me explain. Allow me to share something personal for a moment.

I recently met this girl who is intelligent, beautiful, and loves Lord of the Rings and Batman Begins. What more could I ask for, right? But here's the thing. She's REALLY excited for X-Men 3, but isn't too sure about Superman Returns. And can you blame her? I mean, for the average person (meaning someone who isn't like us... doesn't read comic books or talk to people regularly on superhero message boards), it would make sense that she'd be more hyped for X-Men 3 because we've seen more of that film. We've gotten solid footage. Granted, it comes out earlier than Superman, but even so... Superman is facing more of a challenge because its a franchise that hasn't seen a new film in almost 20 years, and what's more, the last two Superman films were awful. So awful, that Bryan Singer is more or less keeping the first two in continuity and retconning the other ones. Plus, there's still the problem of people not being able to see anyone but Christopher Reeve as Superman, because he fit the character so well. Now I think all of this could easily change... IF they release the trailer soon. And by soon, I mean now. A short teaser which doesn't even have any new dialogue, some promotional photos (some of which are very good, but even I will admit others are very uninspiring)... there hasn't been anything to get the average, non-comic-book-or-superherohype fan enthused. Please, WB... this could be the greatest superhero movie ever... if so... don't let it flop due to poor marketing. We got so bombarded with V for Vendetta and Constantine previews that I got sick of them... I know both of those films needed more hype than Superman or Batman because Supes and Bats are iconic... but people still need to KNOW that there is a Superman movie out there.

But really, what more could anybody ask of a movie such as this?

I hate to tell some of you: this movie will not fulfill your soul. It will not make up for anything lacking in your life. Neither will the character of Superman, in the grand scheme of things.

Part of growing up (and I assume most here are at least in their teens) is to realize the important aspects of your own life and change from within, in order to become mature. I love Superman. I will always admire the character and the concepts he embodies. But I cannot assign such life-shaking importance to the character as I once could as a child. Retreat into fantasy is for entertainment, not escape.

man i totally agree 100%

I'm with Matches. Be curious and interested to see what the trailer will be, same with the movie. But don't need it. Like I said earlier, get the hell outside and enjoy this beatiful spring weather.

I got a good idea. How about letting the people that are greatly anticipating the trailer do so without people questioning their excitement and/or trying to dismiss the validity of it with long-winded explanations. I'm very excited about the trailer as I am a big movie buff, and no amount of prosecuting from anyone especially here is going to change that. I certainly don't feel bad for looking forward to a trailer for a film I hold as my most anticipated film of all time.

Thanks, and I'll be waiting for the trailer now.

I have been telling people to enjoy the anticipation.

Or, you could understand that my post was in response to the title and subject of this thread, my response to that question, and the posts that have been in direct response to mine.

Either way.

Sure, the original poster is also very excited for the trailer, admittedly more excited than myself, and simply expressing his concern that it won't live up to his highly placed anticipation.

I just find it funny that people tell him not to get his "hopes up" when they're obviously already "up" and very little is going to change that. I'm sure he was just wanting conversation from people about that and not about why he shouldn't feel a certain way, but that's just my opinion.

And I only ever offer my honest viewpoint. Should I censor myself? Maybe the OP will read what I have written and find some insight. Maybe not. But I am glad I wrote it, and I hope that some who read it will find where their interest for a new Superman movie really matters in their lives.

I am not saying it doesn't matter. Obviously, it matters to all of us to some degree, else we would not be here. What I am concerned about is the degree to which a piece of entertainment can produce such anxiety in people. I classify that as unhealthy.

It's nothing new; it's on the same path that leads to people getting trampled at concerts or sporting events, or why Red Sox fans are so good in barfights. But it is unhealthy, because entertainment is temporary. It leaves no lasting fulfillment. That is why fans migrate, from Marvel to DC to Star Wars to Anime, etc.

There's lots of this so called "unhealthiness" around then. I see much worse when sports teams do not win. People get caught up in entertainment to the point to where they can get emotionally affected. This guy's a little worried, but hardly anything I would consider unhealthy.

Anxiety? Heh. Events in real life are much worse.

And my posts weren't really addressed to you specifically. Just the people that were trying very hard to convince someone they're wrong for being a little over-excited.

...I thought about it, and now that it's ALMOST time, I'm a bit nervous (if not to say a lot).. I absolutely think that the next trailer will rock!.... But than again, there is a chance that it'll be a total let-down, right.. Am I the only one fearing this? Just what if.......oh my God it scares me just to think about it. Not that I think it will disapoint, but I FEAR it, ya know what I mean... Come to think of it, this next trailer is A LOT more importened than we might think. What if it fails? What if it holds back?!!:( :(

The upcoming trailer will either convince an OBSEEN amount of people to go see this baby!... Or it'll fail BIG-TIME! (and no matter what some say, the theatrical trailer IS very importened in this case!) THOUGHTS?

Hopefully, it'll be a lot better than the less-than-great teaser.

Jesus would own everyone at hockey

I have no such fear. Even though SR isn't the Superman film I hoped for, the teaser blew me away, and i expect the full trailer to do the same.

Superman is an above-average hero. Therefore I expect an above-average trailer.

Vishnu the preserver is usually depicted with four arms. You do the math at who would beat who in hockey. It would be quite a game! :p

I don't think we'll be let down. Theres a reason we've had to wait this long for it. :)

how many of you clicked on this thread and found it to be a total let down.....

close thread... please
No offence pal, but that only shows how dumb you are

Would you care to explain how this thread could turn out to be a "Let-down" when you clicked on it, seeing how the title of the thread 100% says what it's about!?? Oh and why on earth should it be closed? Isn't it a matter good enough to discuss?? You're right, I mean I see no one writing in this thread what so ever... ... But of course I can see why you feel this thread is unneccesary seeing how there's SOOO many threads out there right now that hasn't been discussed to death.. way to go pal:up:
