The Dark Knight Rises How smart is nolan's batman?

I disagree, Keaton discovering the Joker's plan in Batman '89 was far more ingenious than anything Bale has done.
He didn't discover the Joker's plan. The Joker was already carrying his plan out by poisoning people, making threats on TV, etc. Batman just discovered how he was carrying the plan out.
Not only did he discover how the Joker was poisoning people, but he was able to figure out what combinations of products were lethal, and he developed a cure.
This is after the Joker pretty much spelled it out for him in his commercial for his Joker products, showing people being poisoned by hygiene products and the like, with his "secret ingredient," smilex.
"That luscious tan, those ruby lips, and hair color so natural, only your undertaker knows for sure. I know what you're saying: where could I get these fine new items? Well that's the gag. Chances are, you bought them already!"
Sorry, but it's simply not impressive when your opponent tells you exactly what he's doing. Also, I don't remember anything about him developing a cure in that movie... all I remember him doing was telling Vicki Vale to warn everyone about what products were poisonous, which is why the news anchors looked all frizzy afterwards. He blew up the Smilex factory and got rid of the balloons... if there was anything about a cure in there, I missed it.
That was classic Batman. I haven't seen Bale do anything on that level in the last 2 films.
I think it's safe to say that you haven't been paying attention, then. :oldrazz:

What was with Bruce not finishing his college education???

One of the things about Batman which made him such a great hero/detective was that he studied - A LOT. He studied science (physics, chemistry and biology), philosophy, psychology, law etc etc etc.
But he never got a degree (as far as I know, anyway) because he was only taking those classes which suited his purposes. You don't need a literature class if your main interest is in how the criminal mind works, in the kind of chemicals and technology that criminals would put to use (or that can be put to use against criminals), etc.

Totally agree. If nothing else, Burton's Batman was way more of brute, with little regard for any sort of real detective work or clue gathering. This is another reason why I feel BF is underrated, that was the first film where I felt Bruce was more of thinker than just some elemental force

True. Even though he cracks Joker's chemical code, we never saw him do it. We did see him do detective work throughout The Dark Knight.

I think this Batman isn't incredibly smart, he's of above average intelligence, but he's nothing special.

Can Bruce Wayne build and design is own vehicles and weapons for a change?? No wonder that company guy tracked the Tumbler to Wayne in the last movie. He needs to start making things in his cave or that workshop he had. He keeps using things previously built by his own company.

So how smart is this Nolan Batman? It seems, not as smart as the comic book version.

In comparison to most of the films Batmen, Bale is tops...............

Yeah, I am not certain about the current continuity, but as established after the Zero Hour event in the comics, Bruce only studied what he wanted, ignored what was unnecessary, audited classes in college, and scored perfect in each and every test. What's missing from Bale Batman is that obsession with studying academics, for he surely studied the criminal mind in Begins, as far as we saw anyway. He may not be at the super genius level of the comics, but he is certainly not less, and in my opinion more, than the other movie incarnations.
He was able to locate the Joker in TDK, locate the mob's banks, find the fingerprints on a shattered bullet, and generally use all the technology at his disposal in clever ways, as has been pointed out. Even if Lucius Fox helps him, an innovation I really liked to the Batman myths, in the comics he has always had help, by "stealing" from his own company, help from Harold Allnut, the deformed mute who helped design and build equipment, access to technology available to the JLA, and of course direct access to Oracle with a heavy reliance for routine investigations for a time. Specially in Doug Moench's issues, Batman consults various experts on the pertinent subjects of interest many times. The fact that Lucius helps in the Nolan movies is not a deviation of a certain norm.
