How would you reboot Batman?

Also,I'd love to see the Riddler not re-worked as a Saw-like killer or an FBI agent but rather an arrogant, obsessive compulsive mastermind "catch me if you can" thief leaving clues/riddles behind to his temperary whereabouts and next schemes.

Determined to make a name for himself in Gotham on par with the likes of the Joker and Two Face by calling himself "the Riddler",he becomes a target after stealing from Norman Madison,Roman Sionis, Thomas Elliot, Rupert Thorn,Oswald Cobblepot and other rich citizens of Gotham. Even Bruce Wayne. Batman, the GCPD and the millionaire's he's stolen from all see who can get to him first.

i'd have a batman movie with already establish vigilantes in gotham - main characters batman (bruce), robin (tim), nightwing (dick), and oracle. i'm not sure who the villain would be, but damnit i want to see the robins!

Most comics fans do, but for the public, they have no respect or understanding of things like nightwing and oracle. Why should they care about Dick and Bruce's tense relationship if they never saw it develop? By skipping to current comic book status quo, you're robbing the mass audience of the stories that we all grew up on that made us care about these characters.

I'd establish and make it clear to the audience from the very first scene that it was a completely different from Nolan's series. MUCH more comicbook but not camp!
How would I do this? I'd open the movie mid-fight scene with one of the more outlandish villains... Clayface, maybe. I'd purposefully steer away from origins too. This is the comics Batman. Late 30's/early 40's. For the first time he's have his proper costume too, something like this:
superheroes-batman-superman-the-arkham-city-batman-costume-its-real-and-its-awesome.jpg

Only slightly darker and with smaller gloves.

Also, I'd go with a Fan-Pleasing cast.

Jon Hamm - Bruce Wayne
Bryan Cranston - Commissioner Gordon
Toby Jones - The Penguin

Some people are acting like it's all over when Nolan's done. But there are so many awesome things to do ith Bats on screen. A comicbook faithful series is, for me, the way to go.

how is the grey practical though. You'd think, being into stealth and all that, he'd want to NOT stick out in the dark.

If we're gonna get into unnecessary concerns like "what's the most practical camo colour for the fictional character to wear" then he shouldnt really even be wearing black. The idea of Black being a stealthy colour is one of those things that's really only ever seen in movies. In real life, black "cuts out your shape" and leaves you exposed.
Technically, Bats should be wearing dark blue... and nobody wants to see that.

A grey, more body-tight costume, yes.

And Jason Todd as the only non-Grayson Robin. No Tim or Damian, atleast not to begin with.
Why are people so afraid of having Jason as Batman's sidekick? They avoid suggesting the second Robin and go straight for the boys who replace the character as a crime fighter

because everybody hated him as robin. people voted in FAVOR of his death, remember?

That's not true, Jason was pretty popular post Crisis, until Jim Starlin came around. That was when people stopped liking him, and even still, one person voted about 100 times which pushed the vote just about in favour of his death.

A poster on the Hype once suggested using the (a) Justice League film to introduce a new, non-Nolan Batman and then spin-off from there with that Batman in his own movie(s).

I wouldn't mind that idea at all. It doesn't have to be but if by chance they were to base a JLA movie from the Tower of Babel story then that could be the launching point of the new Batman movie series.

Unfortunately they are going to most likely go younger maybe take it to Batman Beyond

Batman is so smooth he doesn't need cammo.

I'm tired of the all black costume and I'm tired of the ultra-realism. Hopefully this reboot will have a new direction.

Because not all shadows are pitch black. Personally, I would prefer the gray to be dark, so that the black and gray blend into each other, sort of like the multiple colors of a camouflage pattern.

I would like something original and unique over something trying too hard to be comic-book faithful.

Would love to see villains like Black Mask and Killer Croc make their debut in live-action.

there's a difference between realism and plain old logic.

Black actually works less than grey because shadows aren't black unless you are standing in a black room with no lights on. Black actually makes you stand out like a silhouette. For sakes of "logic" the actual costume would be dark (midnight) blue and an 85-90% grey. But no one would want that.

a) No Year One or Batman Origins stuff

b) Template: Arkham Asylum/City Batman with 30 something actor and the same grayish-black suit.

c) Villain: the Penguin and Mr Freeze. Ergo, easy transition to a more fantasy Batman world and JLA.

Penguin isn't really that fantasy based. Villains like Joker, Two Face and Ra's Al Ghul are more fantasy based than Penguin.

Here's my Bruce Wayne/Batman casting suggestion. Jeffery Donovan of Burn Notice.

Well that's just ludicrous:

A) Justice League is an untested property, there is no way that WB would pump the required budget into that film after what happened to Green Lantern.

B) Batman is doing more than just fine alone.

C) It would be a bit strange to do just one Superman movie, then recast and reboot straight away. At least with SR to MOS the person to blame is Singer, who kept leaving to pursue other projects and his writers left.

Also, this thread is how would you like to see Batman rebooted, since we know it's definitely happening.

Isn't that how he is already?

If I had to work the Riddler into a movie, I would make him an already established criminal, obviously. To begin with, he would be on the FBI's radar, going from town to city just causing as much trouble as he possibly can for those who are hunting him. A thief, a con-artist, etc. Testing everyone from sherrifs, detectives and agents to track down and stop him from succeeding in his next crime. Obviously to show he is the best and cause great shame to those who failed to capture him. Edward, after hearing about Batman, decides to end his criminal career with a final challenge against 'The World's Greatest Detective'. He fails, and is captured by Batman.

But Edward escapes custordy, and fakes his death (sort of like the ending from his first comic appearance). Months pass, and he later emerges as The Riddler, after creating his deadly revenge challenge for Batman, determined to defeat the Dark Knight once and for all... :)

I would also rework his backstory a little bit. Saying he was educated at all the top universities, Harvard, Yale, etc. Gifted in many feats. Taking interest in writing (where his gift for creating riddles comes from) and was the champion of chess. Playing games and solving puzzles were among his favourite things as a child. His control freak father is the cause of Edward's OCD, forcing him to enter competitions and win no matter what it took. As a boy, if Edward failed to come first place, he received a beating for failure. So whenever opportunities again like that would come around, Edward cheated, fearing the wrath of his father. He received nothing but praise from that day forward. If Edward couldn't win, he would cheat. This filled him with over-confidence, and arrogance. Eventually losing sight if what cheating actually was, it was just a way for him to win.

After finishing his studies and graduating, he went to work for a top security development company. Eventually becoming the head of research and development. Knowing the ins and outs of latest technology in security systems, from to bank alarms, to the police supercomputer.

But of course, Edward's mental health began to deteriorate, due to obsessivley over-working. He was soon on medication, after being diagnosed with OCD. He was deemed a liability for the company, and was terminated. This lead him into a deep depression. Not interested in getting another job, and becoming angrily bitter and frustrated. He remembered his childhood, the feeling of winning and spitting on the face of the loser, surfaced within him. The feeling of his father's fist smashing into him for failure surfaced within him. Edward's life soon spiralled into crime.

That's how I would do it :p
