how would you revamp the X-men

THE PROBALY REALIZE THAT ALL SUPER BEINGS ARE MUTATIONS OF ONE SORT OR ANOTHER THEY'VE BEEN JADED
I always wondered how normal people could tell non-mutant superheroes apart from mutants well enough to consistently hate only the mutants. No one's ever seen Wonder Man or Ms. Marvel and gone "Goddamn muties, get outta here!" or seen Beast or Angel and gone "Hey, those guys are all right; not at all like those horrible mutant freaks"?

Wonder Man and Ms. Marvel are widely known within the MU to not be mutants, as are most other non-mutant heroes. Guys like Beast and Angel I see as being not nearly as well loved as the others, but not nearly as hated as some. Kind of like that racist guy everyone knows who says things like, "He's alright for a black guy." Same principal.

There might be some way to revamp them, maybe not them but the feeling the book used to have, without having to revamp everything.
Don't know how, but getting back the feeling of the old comic doesn't mean reversing time or totally changing everything.

Again, i don't know how, but I am sure there is some way.

Well, those are just a couple examples. I don't think I've ever seen a non-mutant character mistaken for a mutant and hated like a mutant would be. And beyond that, just how do people really know Wonder Man and Ms. Marvel aren't mutants? I could see people blindly believing they're not because they're beloved members of the Avengers, whom most people seem to like, but what about characters more on the fringe, like Moon Knight? Why do people just automatically believe he's not a mutant? What proof have they been given that makes them so sure?

thats what honestly never made sense to me as well... the citizens of the marvel universe must be bi-polar... they cheer the fantastic four and avengers, yet hate spider-man, and fear mutants...

"o? your in the public eye and a science experiment or bad luck gave ya powers? WE LOVE YOU"

"omg you were born with powers? FREAK!!!! KILL THEM"

I don't think anything's all that wrong with the X-Men right now, to be honest. They're busier than I'd like, eliminating those quiet bonding issues I talked about before, but otherwise they're pretty good overall. Even Vulcan's not that bad.

I concur. I wouldn't mind some down time issues (like the past two issues of New X-Men) but overall I'm more interested in the X-Men now than I've been in years. I don't really want anything to change (grow... yes... change, no).

Well... I'd bring back Lifeguard, but that's it. Just because I liked her a lot.

But you've got Darwin now. He's not gold and he's a bit lacking in the bouncy breasts department, but he's basically the same.

I've heard a lot about this Darwin character. He seems to have a pretty big fanbase. The weird thing is that somehow I have no idea who he is.

I haven't actually read any stories with him myself. His power is to adapt to pretty much anything on the fly. He was introduced in Deadly Genesis, I believe, and then he stayed in space with Havok's team to keep an eye on Vulcan. I've avoided all things Vulcan-centric like the plague, so that's why I haven't read anything with him.

Ah, that's why I've never even seen him. I didn't touch Deadly Genesis, or Brubaker's first UXM storyarc.

No, he didn't stay in space. He came back with Professor X and the rest of the team. He fought the Hulk. Got whipped so bad the only way his body could adapt was to get him the f**k away from the Hulk.

Er... okay. I don't remember seeing him at all in the little I read of Brubaker's post-DG Uncanny X-Men arc, but I'm pretty forgetful.

He's definitely not there. I started picking up UXM again after the Shi'ar garbage.

You mean the arc where the X-Men take Caliban in and Skids is a secret agent chasing down some prophetic text? That's the arc I started reading Bru's Uncanny with, too.

No, he hasn't shown up much at all, except for in the WWH tie in, and the beginning of the arc in uncanny before MC started.

Oh, right, the WWH: X-Men mini-series. Yeah, I do remember seeing him in there. Still, he didn't do much besides get his ass kicked, so I didn't really get any insight into his character from that appearance.

Well, the only way to do that would be to read the space stuff from the start of Bru's run on Uncanny. He's kinda cool if you ask me. Could use a little more development.

But that would require the reading of the space stuff from the start of Brubaker's run. :o

That run had everything going against it, other then Brubaker's name. Bad premise, bad characters and bad art. There was no way I was going to read it.

It wasn't that bad though. Not the greatest thing ever, but it was decent.
