how would you revamp the X-men

So Iceman and Cannonball are now up there alongside Wolverine and Nightcrawler, Wonder Man and Beast, Hercules and the Black Knight, and all the other great buddy-cop duos in comics?

I don't know If I'd go that far. Beast/Wonder Man, Hercules/Black Knight and Wolverine/Nightcrawler have all survived the test of time with multiple writers. This is just Carey's doing. If it lasts past his run, then you might be on to something.

They do make a great team, though. Carey's really developed their relationship into that of brothers.

Captain Britain wasn't really that powerful, last time I checked his powers. He had mid-range strength and speed, and he could fly. That'd be like the Avengers depending on Iron Man or Captain Marvel for their super-huge powerhouse role. The Juggernaut's there in case Excalibur goes up against the entire, full-powered Wrecking Crew or Ultron or someone way up there on the power scale. Without him, Excalibur could maybe take those threats down with some luck, but Jugs throws the odds much more in their favor.

Isn't Marko pretty weak these days compared to what he used to be? Either way, he just wouldn't mesh with what my interpretation of your original idea was.

Dazzler's redesign is pretty cool, but like you, I don't really think she adds much as a character. If someone could come up with a good reason for her to be there, I'd be cool with her staying on, though.

She's alright. She seems like a character who's personality could be shaped pretty well by the individual writer's preferences without ****ing things up too much.

After the WWH tie in, he's got his full power back. WHich is why he's likely gonna go bad again. Course I don't read Excalibur, so f**k if I know if they've taken it all back again.

Cytorrak took back a chunk of his power cuz Cain had gone soft.

Chuck Austin I believe. Or at least that was the explanation used to explain why the sudden drop in power due to what Chuck Austin did to him.

Actually, you're right. He did the issues with Marko and that fish kid, right?

Austen took the power away. Tieri wrote an arc in New Excalibur where Jugs basically confronted Cyttorak and some not-so-nice details of his shady past came to the surface among his Excalibur teammates, which changed how some of them looked at him and, more importantly, changed how he looked at himself. He seemed to stop striving to be what he considered "good" at that point and decided to just be himself. As of WWH, Cyttorak's reinstated Cain's original power, but it's not clear yet whether Cain will go all-out evil again or just continue along the morally ambiguous path Tieri's arc implied he was on. He could just become an anti-hero now, destroying a lot to appease Cyttorak but generally trying not to hurt innocents. I don't know where his characterization is heading now, since the Black Knight left and Claremont came back after that NE arc, so I dropped the book.

Anyway, he fits in all right on the SHIELD/Interpol team to me because Pete Wisdom would vouch for him. In that Tieri arc, Pete seemed to see a bit of himself in Cain--darker than anyone who could call himself a superhero, but using that darkness or moral ambiguity or whatever towards the greater good. He fits in well enough for my tastes when you consider that Jack of Hearts was an Avengers member when they were endorsed by the UN.

Yeah, but he still is kinda responsible of the neutering.

Honestly, one of the bigger things I'd do is have the Beat not mutate further. And what I mean by that is, he'd look like someone shaved a gorilla, like he originally did.

I also wouldn't have killed Thunderbird. Some editor thought either he or Wolverine should die, because their personalities were too similar. That's freaking ******ed. In fact, I think it would've been interesting to see the two of them antagonize one another. ("Nice motorcyle, chief." "Nicer than yours. Call me 'chief' again, I dare you.")

I would've kept Jubilee in the main title for longer, and kept Generation X for a few more years... That's about it.

You're not telling the full story with Thunderbird there. They had decided one of the X-Men would die on the following mission, as a shock value death. That's when they decided they it would be Thunderbird, since he was so similar to Wolverine.

Is the Beat related to the Onion?

I'm not against snark when someone blatantly misspells something, but sometimes you've just got to let typos slide.

so Juggs has to destroy lots of things to keep the Cyttorak happy?
thats kind of a handicap isn't it?
"I'll kick your ass in a second, but first I need to go stomp on a starbucks to keep my power."

I think Cyttorak wants Cain to perform acts of evil to keep his powers. Stomping on a Starbucks counts as an act of good.

From what I've been able to gather, it's the intentions behind his actions that Cyttorak seems to be concerned with. As long as Marko's not playing the good guy, he'll remain powerful. I think.

Yeah, that's pretty stupid.

I'd just take the reduction in power.

I think it's intent as well. Cain still hadn't destroyed much when Cyttorak returned him to his classic power level. He's definitely in a destructive mindset now, however, as evidenced by his indiscriminately destructive fight with the Hulk in WWH: X-Men.
