The Dark Knight Rises Hugo Strange

His last name doesn't need changing. It's not one of your classic, super convenient, "Guy named Otto Octavius ends up with eight limbs" names like Nygma and Fries - yes, he is "strange", but it's not like his name is Dr. Hugo Obsessedwithbatman.

Strange is a real last name. One of the actors to play Frankenstein's monster was named Glenn Strange, and it wasn't a stage name.

I want to see Jackie Earle Haley play Hugo Strange so badly now that I just might explode. Jackie is one of the best actors around at the moment, and we know he can do sick and disturbing. :awesome:

He'd be a good choice plus he already has the beard and the specs.

making him a young genius psychologist is the way to go and makes Hardy a fine choice to pay strange..

as others have said, he's pretty much what we were thinking the riddle was going to be but instead of riddles, you get someone who over time becomes so obsessed that he wants to become batman and of course have him working with with the anti batman task force to begin with...

also, we can give him a goatee instead of a beard and go with a buzz cut hairstyle instead of old man baldness...

I'm fine with him being bald. Doesn't need to be "old man baldness", could just be a shaved head like Tom Hardy had in Bronson. And I like Hugo Strange's crazy Amish beard, I think it should stay. Keep the bald head, the crazy Amish beard, and the thick glasses, and I think you'd have a villain that's visually interesting enough to not be called "generic".

I agree. His look makes him look as if he is genuinely disconnected from reality.
Here's what I'm wondering though, we know Strange wants to be Batman, but what would his bat-suit look like?
It couldn't be high-tech armour, because it's such a secret desire that he'd want to keep it under wraps. I imagine it being this rag-tag, moth-eaten thing he hides in a secret compartment somewhere.
Seeing this guy with the wacky beard and bald head dressing up like a giant bat could be very unsettling.

If he uncovers Batman's identity, maybe he finds a way to steal Bruce Wayne's Batsuit, prompting Wayne to get a new, better one.

I'd much rather have Strange create an individual batsuit that reflected how insane and delusional he is.
If he uses Bruce's actual suit, I think it will be a wasted opportunity - design wise.
The Joker was such an artistic triumph, ditto for Two-Face. We need a striking villain who will capture the imagination of the audience. And what's better than a freakish bat-costume worn by a barmy psychologist?

I see it as an extension of his obsession with Batman. And it would eventually spill out more and more into the real world.

I'd be extremely ok with Hugo Strange being the main antagonist.

If memory serves, his costume in 'Prey' was reasonably like the real one, but had an altered Bat-symbol. As you say, design wise it would be a wasted opportunity - why not do a classic black and grey costume with the oval? Or blue and grey, if that floats your boat.

As long as it gets across the idea that he is really, completely barmy and made this thing himself. Like I said, it should be unsettling. And almost the total opposite of the real Batman suit.
Because the idea of him wanting to be Batman is in itself very uncomfortable. As such people really do exist.

Disregard.

Stanley Tucci is great, but I'll be happy if it's Tom Hardy that plays him.

For those of you who are interested in the idea of Strange as a villain, I learned last night that if Nolan doesn't use him in BATMAN RISES (and maybe even if he does), there's a good chance you'll see him on film fairly soon.

What if he uses a Burton-style batsuit?

I think that if Nolan was going to do a take on Hugo Strange, then they'd be taking a few liberties with the character - at least his visuality. A good comparism to make would be to Ras Al Ghul: Think about the comic book version -

Then think what we actually got.

He got rid of Ra's Al Ghul's green cape/suit. He was still an (apparently) middle-aged man with brown hair (with white/grey sides) and a Fu Manchu-esque goatee (albeit slightly toned down).

Hugo Strange is just a bald man with glasses and a beard. Not exactly Manbat.
