The Dark Knight Rises Hugo Strange

I buy it. Great mother****ing news if true. Absolutely fabulous news. :D

I need to start reading more Hugo Strange stories.

Well...who hasn't Hardy been rumoured to play?

Black Mask, Bullock, Riddler, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Bane, Strange?

I could see it, and I personally think Strange will be in the film. I continue to think that he may have been the villain Mark Millar was referencing, particularly since Millar has expressed his love of Steve Englehart's work in interviews in the past.

But you never know, it's Nolan and there's that much bull flying through the air of this movie. That many stabs in the dark and someone is bound to get it right eventually!

Funny, I'd been suggesting Hardy for Huge Strange back before he was even cast in the film but I figured it would never happen since Strange isn't all that well-known. But if this is true... that's awesome.

Well, outside this forum he hasn't been officially rumored to play anyone of the above, except for the Riddler and maybe Deadshot. Riddler's out, so...

I really really hope the rumor is true. I've more than warmed up to the idea of Strange as the villain in TDK.

One poster said about a month ago that Strange will get some recognition in the upcoming Arkham City game. It wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't a coincidence (like Lee Bermejo's Joker getting released roughly the same period as TDK).

Also, if they have the Prey outline as their basis, it could mean that they're kinda scaling back... which is welcome.

I just read the synopsis for "Prey" and honestly, it's as if I was reading the plot to TDKR. It like literally picks up where TDK leaves off. (SPOILERS for PREY)If I may read from a review on amazon: "Batman, the hunter, becomes the hunted when the major demands him arrested. Captain Gordon is to form a special squad to do so, which shall be master-planned by psycho-analist Dr. Hugo Strange. While Strange shall try to unravel the mystery 'who is Batman' by logical psychological deduction, a street squad will do the fieldwork."

So, in light of last night's update, I'm brushing up on Hugo Strange as a character, since I don't really know jack about him. I feel like I'm getting a pretty good idea of where Nolan is going with this. There's a lot of good material to continue on from where TDK left off, and bring in characters we've already seen, and introduce some new ones. Prey and Terror seem like they were tailor-made for TDKR. I'm getting very excited.

Prey also has that opening with the talk show, which would make sense for Mike Engel. But Strange was so cheesy in that entire story.

When was the "Prey" story arc released? Does anyone know?

September 1990. I just dug all 5 books up for review in light of the rumors.
The story does seem like it would work, but I have to agree, Strange does come off a bit cheesy. Interested to see what Nolan could do with it....

Well, he'll change him a bit, for sure. I'm sure there are other characterisations from the comics that can work. If not, he can always pull a Timm/Dini (with Freeze) or Goyer (with Blade).

Strange is a character whose use should be about his potential based on his comic appearances. Not neccessarily the content of them.

There are some fantastic possibilities with the character.

Still waiting on that Batman: Prey plot synopsis :csad:..

Batman: Prey
by Doug Moench, Paul Gulacy, and Terry Austin

Gotham City's new psychiatrist, Hugo Strange, is obsessed with Batman. He convinces the mayor to prepare a special task force to capture Batman with Commissioner Gordon as its head. Gordon deploys the seemingly not-too-bright, overzealous Sgt. Max Cort to lead the task force. Later, it is found that Strange hates the Batman because he loves what the Batman does, becoming a creature of the night but he can't do it. He deduces the Batman's identity and plays psychologically with him by placing life-like mannequins of his parents in Wayne Manor with audio tapes. He then hypnotizes Sgt. Cort into donning a costume & becoming another vigilante, who then kidnaps the mayor's daughter. Batman rescues the mayor's daughter, while Hugo Strange is shot several times before falling into Gotham Bay. His body is never recovered.
