The Dark Knight Rises Hugo Strange

Just a few weeks ago... I thought Hugo Strange would be one of the worst follow-ups to Joker and TDK. Now, after reading everything in this thread (and the Tom Hardy thread)... I'm totally sold. I'd be dissapointed if Hugo Strange was not one of the villains in TDKR.

I wasn't even familiar with Hugo Strange (never really been into the comics before - mostly just the movies and the whole concept of Batman) but now I'm looking up comics and graphic novels online.

I really think Hugo Strange and Catwoman would make for an awesome end to this trilogy. Deadshot and Bane still intrigue me too, though.

I don't even think of The Riddler anymore. Thanks for the enlightment everyone.

Oh lawd, here we go again.

A month ago and onward everyone and their grandmother's grandmother would have sworn on a large stack of newspapers that The Riddler would be in this film, they even guessed exactly how he was to be portrayed. They were sold and would have been disappointed if otherwise. Now most of you are doing the same with Hugo Strange. While I too think he is a good choice, I think you guys don't need to get your hopes up. Especially this early in the game where storywise, nothing is for certain.

I like that Strange can go toe to toe with Batman in a fight. I really hope this rumor turns out to be true, the more I look into Strange/Prey/fan theories, the more I like it!

You're preaching to the choir. The number of people actually getting their hopes up on these boards (i.e., claiming "I won't see the movie if <place villain here> isn't in it!") can be counted on one hand. Everyone else is reasonable enough to know that Hugo Strange's presence in this movie isn't set in stone, but what else do you expect people to do while waiting for the movie to come out? Speculation is the name of the game around here. And not all rumors are false. If I remember correctly, it was rumored that the Joker would be stealing the mob's money in TDK long before the prologue was ever released. His dressing up like a nurse was also known about early on... people were even making fan art of it.

Actually, if you look back, you'll see that I talked about the kind of villain I'd like to see featured in the movie, and said that this role could be filled by The Riddler OR Hugo Strange (and at the time, I believe, I also said "or even Simon Hurt", though I later dismissed that option). I also agreed with someone else's point by saying that, though The Riddler was probably my top choice, I wasn't going to get emotionally invested in him because we didn't know for sure who the villain would be. And sure enough, soon afterwards Riddler was dropped out.

Yes, we shouldn't take anything for granted and act like a character is DEFINITELY going to be in the film. But that doesn't mean we can't have top choices and discuss the possibilities. If we couldn't do that, this whole board would be very dead indeed right now, as at this stage speculation is really all we have.

Thank you! I've been saying this for the longest as well. While I'd love to see the Riddler again the idea of the GCPD bringing in someone to profile Batman's motivations fits Strange's character more naturally than reworking Nigma.

It's funny that Hugo Strange has been so underrated and underused over the years, not to mention dissed by many of the fans- considering the fact that Bob Kane and Bill Finger originally intended for him to be Batman's arch-enemy. Then The Joker came along, and the rest is history.

Hmm... that's true.

Ironically, the most effective use of him had been on The Batman animated series, where they seemed interested in building up his characterization.

Hopefully... Nolan can give him a shot of life and I dont think he has to remain quite so loyal to Strange's looks and motivations as his other adaptations of characters in the past.

Oh, lawd... a bitter and bored individual with nothing else to do or actually contribute.

I was just stating my opinion. Everyone is entitled to state their opinion and state that they would be dissapointed. I just stated that I would be dissapointed if Hugo Strange and Catwoman wouldn't be in the movie. I didn't say it was the end of the world (if they aren't) or that I wouldn't go see the movie... or that I would lose respect for Nolan.

Do some people have nothing better to do than shoot down everyone's thoughts, ideas, wishes? I can get my hopes up and I can get dissapointed... if I want to. I will survive either way. Which villain is actually in the movie... won't be a significant day or event in my life or anything. Good grief.

My reply was to compliment a lot of posters on here... and this is the response I get? This baffled me.

Instead of ripping apart or disecting what other people say... find something you actually can contribute to... and leave everyone's grandmother out of it. :yay:

You are a poster that I totally appreciate and respect. Well stated. Good job.

if they were going for Hugo, they should have made a hard push to get Daniel Day Lewis (aka GOD). too bad he's locked with Lincoln.

Viggo Mortensen would be a solid Hugo Strange also!

Matter of fact if Nolan and Emma can snag Hardy, Viggo, and Cotillard or Weisz to be in this Batman 3 film.....I will officially worship them forever! :word:

LOL

I think that the next Batman film they do when the Nolan series is done should be an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns as a one-man show, with Daniel Day-Lewis playing every role.

I'd see it at least fifty times.

Hmmm. What if Strange attempts to auction Batman's secret identity to the mob, in a homage to "Strange Apparitions"?

If will be Strange and Catwoman,I will lost all the interest to see the movie.

When I first heard about the Strange theory I wasn't excited either but Nolan should be able to take any character and make them interesting .

As much as I hate to admit it, hugo strange seems by far the best fit for tom hardy. Damn!

There aren't enough 'ifs' in that statement.

Why do I need 'ifs'? You're not a real Batman fan if you're unwilling to see the movie because of the (purported) villain. The fact that it's a Batman movie should be enough to, if you are indeed a Batman fan, get your bum in the chair.

I think he was talking about your certainty of Strange being the villain in TDKR. As of now it's not confirmed.

The "he's still in this movie" was referring to Batman...

I'm far from certain that Strange is the villain.

Anyone interested in picking up Prey at an affordable price, check out mycomicshop.com. They have each single issue for about $1.50 each.

I also lucked out today at my local comic shop. They have hundreds of TPBs, many of which are quite old but are still always sold at cover price. So I was able to snag Strange Apparitions for only $12.95!
