"I am DOOM! What MODS Dare Stand Against Me! - Part 2

Someone accidentally gave Kebbell a stack of FF comic books, and he's been trying to incorporate them into his movie character after-the-fact.

I imagine him under the covers with a flashlight and every time Trank walks past his room he has to turn off the light and pretend he's asleep.

You guys think they will pull a "Mandarin" in this film where Doom really is some other villain but he just calls himself Doom and reveals his true identity in the end?

Just kidding. ;)

I wish they did that instead.

Sorcery, you say?

Yes indeed Sir, the very thing some of us have been speculating about.

You mean Toby Kebbell, right?

From that brief snippet in the video, it comes out about the same as the idea that the futuristic science in Thor is perceived as magic.

But to be perfectly honest, his description of understanding elements gives me the impression it's not Victor Von Doom he's playing but rather it's Owen Reece, aka the Molecule Man.

Yes the actor who plays Doom. Magic traditionally has always been rooted in the 4 elements that ancient humans perceived.

Wow dude. I thought you was 100% for this film but it seems the closer it gets, the brighter the lights are. You still plan on seeing this opening day?

I was never 100% for this film. I liked most of what I've seen. I just defend the parts I like about the film and mostly avoid talking about the parts I don't like. I am definitely less excited than I used to be.

I rarely watch movies on the opening day, or the opening week for that matter. Last time I went to see something on opening weekend was Age of Ultron, but that was a big movie. I tend to wait a week, check RT everyday and decide whether or not to go watch it. I usually go watch it because I am easier than the critics.

This thread is for discussing Dr. Doom in the new FF movie....not for pissing contests or making jokes about other posters.

If The Fantastic Four in this film have abilities that represent the 4 primary elements, and Victor has the ability to control elements, then I say that he becomes more of a Molecule Man analog than Dr. Doom.

And if that really turns out to be the case, I would much rather have had them make him the Molecule Man and saved Doom for later.

You wouldn't need to care about Victor's gypsy sorcerer background, the fact that he's not a monarch, and his lack of armor.

Just imagine he is the Molecule Man when you watch this movie. Boom, the movie just got 10 times better!

That's what I don't get. If you don't like Doom, why not use another villain you like instead of creating a new villain and just giving him the name of Doom.

I thought by controlling the elements he meant the ones in the periodic table ....

Its at about 2:17 in the final US trailer.

I dont see anything that tells that sue gains her powers on that sceane...

so, the latest clip shows that you are indeed right... sue dos not go on that trip...

https://youtu.be/lzEZ70eLH6g

but maybe nobody wins teh powers on the dimension... maybe the rest of the team also wins their powers on the explosion along with sue, after they come back ?!

Maybe. I am starting to think whatever gave them the powers leaks into the lab from the other dimension when the others return. I don't know.

I hope they're trying to outrun the powers on their way back.

I guess, Sue probably got exposed to the energy or radiation from Planet Zero due to her skin contact with Johnny? I imagine her running to them once they came back from Planet Zero.

I think the latest clip shows that not only doesn't Sue go on the trip, but it's also an unplanned/unsupervised trip. It looks like they ARE taking at least one thing from the Lee/Kirby FF origin.

Since the boys are taking an unscheduled expedition, it explains why Ben is along for the ride, as in the UFF version of things he was an innocent bystander caught up in the incident by just happening to be there.

Sue likely has to retrieve them from their expedition and gets caught in their return backwash.

Ugh, that latest clip of "Doom" going "Scanners" on those mooks... I couldn't believe it was conceivable to be even lamer than Story's Doom, but this film actually managed to pull it off :csad:

Yeah....I saw that new clip too.....no one involved this movie has ever seen Doctor Doom in any form what so ever.

People complained about Doom in Corman's movie....it was a thousand times better than this.

People complained about Doom in Story's movies....they were a hundred times better than this.

I'm so glad they put out that Doom clip. I needed a good laugh. Much like the ridiculous wheelchair fight scene in Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned, this is one "action" scene you need to see in the movie. It sums up this bull**** in one convenient clip, no ticket purchase required.

So in essence, Fox has once again given us 'not-Doom' -- so maybe Marvel could just, you know, add Dr. Doom to their universe by just not naming him.

He looks like the illegitimate child of Psycho Pirate and one of those Easter Island heads.

It's crazy that in two franchises now, Fox have gone out of their way to not give us Doom by making essentially the same mistake: shoehorn him into the mission that gives the Four their powers, and give him powers that turn his skin metallic and have him walk around in hooded rags. Like, did they seriously look at the feedback for the Tim Story films and think, "Well we got Doom right last time, no changes required there!"

This time they got closer, as pre-transformation Toby Kebbell plays a much more compelling Victor Von Doom than Julian McMahon did. But just about everything from his transformation onwards is just totally messed up, a series of bone-headed moves. And they could have so easily done it better. Mild spoilery talk...

In the movie, the "Four" who travel to the alternate dimension are Reed, Ben, Johnny and Victor, which in itself is pretty bad. Sue gets her powers by getting hit by an explosion back on Earth, when she successfully brings the others home. An ostensibly small but thematically huge change would have been to have Reed, Ben, Johnny and SUE be the ones who travel to the alternate dimension, with Victor being the one to ultimately shy away from the moment of shared camaraderie that makes the mission happen: hammer home that at the end of the day, he's not one of them. Then have it be VICTOR who manages to bring the Four back home, only to get caught in a lab explosion. Only the explosion doesn't give him powers, it scars his face. We see him escape from the facility with various military secrets and weapons blueprints, saying his scars are a reminder never to think of himself as equals with others ever again. Then, cue "One Year Later", we learn that in the intervening months Victor has built himself a suit of armor and, using the various stolen weapons blueprints, has crafted an advanced robot army which he has used to conquer his native country of Latveria and turn it into an isolationist state.

Can anyone make some gifs and avatars out of that Doom clip? :)
