The Amazing Spider-Man I love Spider-Man but I hope this movie fails.

Peter Parker has been handsome since John Romita replaced Steve Ditko as the artist for The Amazing Spider-Man.

Which is why I don't understand it when people say Andrew is too handsome to play Peter Parker! Is Peter supposed to be some unattractive guy or not???

I think that they may just want to see Ditko's Peter Parker on screen.

Yeah, that Peter doesn't exist anymore. Hasn't for years. Same reason I don't get the complaints about his hair or his height or neck. Come on man, the guys hair and neck?? I read one comment on some site where a guy said it should be called the amazing skinny spider man. Apparently, Peter has always been drawn as an average height stocky guy and never ever ever been drawn as tall slim with an athletic build

I like the complaint that "it looks too dark and Spider-man is supposed to wise cracking not dark. Thats not the real Spider-man" Man they really need to show a quipping spidey in the next trailer to shut these guys up.

So it's pretty much the first interpretation of nerdy, unattractive Peter which lasted for what? less than a decade vs. nerdy, outcast, yet handsome Peter that's been the usual interpretation by many different artists for the last 40 or more years? And even then, the only real differences between the two are the changes in fashion.

See, I'm always of the mind that you really never need to shut naysayers up because no matter what, they will be naysayers. I'm sure they will show it but at the same time, many of those people complaining about it are still going to see it. That's the way the internet works..if they really had NO interest in the movie, why waste their time to complain about it? Go do something positive or more constructive with your time than put energy towards something you have no interest in..it's like being in elementary school and making fun of the girl you liked..you tease her, you play fight with her, you torture her but deep down you know you have a huge crush on her and just want her attention.

AbstractPo3tic you have too much wisdom for me too handle. Nothing really shuts them up. Lets see what they have to complain about next, my bet is the labcoatless lizard. Or maybe the smaller snout? Or maybe the hair of Martha Connors? There really aren't ever no complaints so I might as well amuse myself with their complaints.

I'm thinking the next complaints will be that the web slinging scenes are too visceral. Thus, they get too dizzy.

Lol some people just LOVE to complain and have something to rail against. And if they don't want to like something they'll find anything to do. I mean we've already seen people bash Andrew for his hair and being too handsome. Seriously? This is what it's come to??

If people are willing to go there they'll b willing to go anywhere. As fans we just have to try to shut out the madness and realize that complaining about something BEFORE u see it is asinine in itself and nothing I've seen or read from Marc Webb has made me think that the complaints will hold any weight

hahahaha that would make me laugh if someone said that.

Just you wait and see. Once we get some footage, someones bound to say it.

my opinion is, Sam Raimi's trilogy was great. A wonderful first crack at a film series for our beloved character, despite there being issues and shortcomings.

Tobey was nowhere near as bad as many people make him out to be, and not everything was Raimi's fault. alot of the crap ppl keep blaming Raimi for was actually SONY'S FAULT.

And now ppl look to Sony like they are a bunch of gods finally blessing us with the type of Spidey film we want.

when the reboot was first announced I was pissed off. but As time went on and more info was released the more excited and interested I became.

The Raimi films will ALWAYS have a very special place in my heart.
But that doesn't mean I'll reject the idea of a new film series being made.

My problem with the reboot and with Sony is how much strife it's causing with Spidey fans, and general audience members (especially the general audience who THINK they are fans of Spidey but only know Spidey via the 90s series or the Raimi films)

you either have the Raimi lovers who are totally against the reboot, or the people who are totally for the reboot and all of a sudden have an extreme hatred for Raimi.

very few of us are in the middle. we, the few who loved Raimi's films, still like them, and are interested in the reboot.

it's kinda sad.

two interesting videos on what supposedly went down behind the scenes with SM4, and the reboot:

Yeah it's complicated ain't it?

I'm probably not as big of a Spider-man fan as many of the people here, which is why I'm not as skeptical over the film. My reaction to the reboot was "WTF. Who is Andrew Garfield???"

Then a few months later, I randomly see three of his films and then I'm saying, "this guys if frakking awesome!".

Honestly though, i was about 11 or 12 yrs when Spider-man first came out and I gotta say, I was an idiot of a kid. Sure, I liked the films because it was Spider-man on the big screen and the action sequences were great, but even then there wasn't something about Tobey that I didn't like. Fast forward a decade, there's a reboot of the Spider-man films which I am intensely excited about and here I am sometimes borderline hating on the Raimi films. Why is that? well, I'm older now..I'm pretentious and I expect more from a film than just good action sequences and decent-good, yet corny acting.

I'm not a complainer and I'm not a troll who feels the need to waste my time posting my hate for something, but I'm also not someone who will so strongly hold onto films from my dear childhood. Even though the Raimi films were pretty flawed IMO, they were Spider-man films and it was just awesome to see Spider-man being done better than decently. That said, they are just films to me. I have my dislikes about them, which have become more clear as I've grown older and since this new film looks to be much better, I will have no qualms in voicing my dislikes for the older ones.

Not sure if my mentality makes sense though.

Theres facebook. They have 200,000 likes on their official page but its really not saying much for a franchise thats been as successful as it has. People who follow superhero news are excited but the general public hasnt seen much of it and isn't going to be flocking to the theaters for Gwen and Web shooters. You have to keep in mind by this point in Spider-Man 3s campaign we were getting leaked images of Venom and we'd had several trailers. The marketing on this movie is really subpar.

Spider-Man 3 was bad. Raimi blew it. He deserved to get the boot because of it. I don't care the reason, he put his name on it.

I think that's a bit unfair. Raimi isn't the only one to blame for SM3's problems.

My thoughts exactly.

there are people that are posting sweeping statements like 'no one is interested in this movie'

well the trailer it seems is going to be posted some time this week. if that trailer (for a movie that no one is interested in) has less than 10 million downloads after 3 days I will be shocked.

even though I was younger my opinion of the trilogy has remained pretty consistent. SM1 was a good not great movie. SM2 was utterly amazing and SM3 was an entertaining but ultimately disappointing movie.

I think that it will take something very special INDEED for webb's spiderman to surpass SM2 (imho).
everytime I see a great movie (in the wake of SM2) I always think, 'well that definately has topped SM2' (examples; batman begins, iron man, xmen first class) and every time I watch SM2 again I think, 'nope, still doesn't top it'.
the only exception for me is TDK, I watched TDK and SM2 side by side and TDK definately takes it (despite TDK being riddled with holes).

the reason why I hold SM2 so highly is the story of the hero and the supporting cast.
the guys life is being destroyed by being a hero, but he is reminded that he has a choice and he CHOOSES not to be a hero and everything is great.
but he sees standing idly by has caused people to get hurt or even die.
and if that wasn't enough, you see his best friend descend into darkness and all the while blaming peter for not being there. you see the good doctor lose everything he holds dear but still holding onto the dream of making the world a better place (with free energy).
for me the high point of the movie is when peter says 'am i not supposed to have what 'I' want.
a simply BRILLIANT movie and all the people in the world are not going to convince me it is a cheesy children's romp.

I preferred that movie to the frankly DULL batman begins (and it's AWFUL 3rd act).

I preferred that movie to iron man (even though that movie runs it very very close). I just prefered peter's inner conflict to the redemption story of tony (just, it's really close).

I preferred SM2 to xmen first class (again, just!) I was fascinated by the friendship of prof. x and magneto but again the inner conflict of peter gave it the edge for me.

so, to cut a long story short, saying a movie is cheesy doesn't make it so, or if it IS cheesy then maybe I like cheese afterall comics are cheesy. I think SM1 is 'okay' and SM3 is disappointing but for me SM2 is the second best superhero movie ever made.

some people are anticipating that SM2 (93% on rotten tomato/83 on metacritic for comparison TDK is 94% on rotten tomato and 82 on metacritic) is going to blow raimi's spider-man out of the water but the bar sam has set is a high one.
that being said I am really excited for the movie and hope webb knocks it out of the park

So wait, are you saying that this reboot is like the Joel Schumacher Batman movies?

Not at all. I'm saying every director & writter has their vision of what story they want to tell and how they want to tell it. But, some are better than others.

I think this film has a very good chance of being a solid film.

Agreed. I personally refuse to blame something on Raimi that was Sony's fault and vice versa.

Bravo! It's ok man, the Raimi films ARE corny and wayyy under potential. There's not much else to say! Shortsighted, Peter Parker the un-proactive mute, unrealistic situations / dialogue, non-funny Spider-Man, unsupportive Mary Jane, the list can go on!

Thank goodness they rebooted and gave Raimi the 'boot.
