Dark Phoenix "I'd rather be in Guardians" The Jennifer Lawrence/Mystique Thread

As for my thoughts on Lawrence. Glad she's rumored to die. She was miscast.

I would be shook if all of Jennifer Lawrence's scenes feature the blue paint.

Had to do a double take when I first saw the Mystique pic. The make up looks better (probably since she's no longer wearing a body suit paired with her "wet paint" so it improves one's take of the whole design) but that wig still looks like a wig. I half expect it to fall off if she moves a smidge.

I agree Lawrence was a miscast. But she isn't bad.

What a vast improvement. Felt like she was getting progressively worse.

First Class was weird cause it felt like her scales were BIGGER then ever, and since they were the same color as her skin, they didn't create any variations. They looked like some weird skin disorder. Also, why was she turquoise?

DoFP at least made her proper blue again, and her scales went back to darker blue, but she just looks oily and wet.The scales looked like they were just quickly thrown on with no thought. And suddenly she has eyebrows!

XMA gave her back her "natural" looking hairline, and make her eyebrows red. But she still looks bad in most scenes (and still wet!)...

Now we have a comic accurate hair do, hair color, and skin tone! The few scales left have TEXTURE and a dynamic flow to them. Not just random dots. Her pupils are bigger, and she has a variation of blue pigments to her skin. It creates something more life like, and less Halloween costume. And yes, I love the darker lip. Contrast!

Nice comparison. The make up is much improved. I’m curious how they’re approaching it, because it almost looks digital. I guess that could just be for the photo, though.

Btw looks like she's back to turquoise :oldrazz:

I like her skin being turquoise, or whetever the hell shade it is in these new pics. We already have two other blue mutants, for christ's sake. Do we really need three?

I like it it looks more natural than “hey it’s J Law in blue paint and red wig!” Unfortunately the original make up artist that did Rebecca’s paint job passed on, so it’s like they tried their best to mimic what he did but now this feels more right. It reminds me of her look from X-Men Evolution. The lighter paint suits Jennifer if that makes sense it doesn’t washes her out but defines her beauty and I hope she’s like this throughou the movie.

This picture perfectly captures how much of an improvement this is IMHO. Visually it is very distinct and also really fits Jlaw as well. The skin color look more natural, which makes the scales pop more and the darker lips also really help. I like how the hair has more volume again as well, even if the hairline looks a bit weird in this picture.

I do have to admit, though, that this more beautiful design for Mystique would have sort of undermined the conflict she had about her appearance in the previous movies. She is initially ashamed of her appearance because she is freaky looking. Especially in FC with all the jaggedy scales, you could totally understand her plight when she asked Xavier if he'd date her in her natural form.

But with her new design? Who WOULDN'T want to bang that? I know I would.

(That said, I'm still glad they updated her design)

Well, I won’t put it like that as a happily married guy, but I have to admit for whatever reasons, I do find her new look hot.

I like JL, but I find her face as Mystica always too childish.

one way or another her version of mystique will be gone.dark phoenix will be the end anyway with the reboot and besides he may die in film anyway.

Maybe Mystique will get shot with a mutant cure again like in X-Men the last stand, and that will be Lawrence's final scene as the character, writhing around on the floor and turning human like Rebecca Romijn.

Uh oh and you still managed to post.

Congratulations on taking my post so literally...because we all know that I was supposed to be legit dead from the picture. :cwink:

But anyway, I wouldn't mind if this is the last we see of JL as Mystique. She doesn't seem to care all that much for the role outside of getting the paycheck and I'd much rather have someone in the role who is more enthused about portraying the character as opposed to complaining every five seconds about the make-up as if they didn't know that was one of the requirements when they signed on.

She was miscast. And then Mystique was mischaracterised.

Double disaster.

I can understand that being covered in blue make-up is not nice, but I think I'd put up with it for a £20 million salary.

Good riddance to the actress.

I agree she was miscast, but I can't help but feel like the ******** is way worse for people because they don't like Jennifer Lawrence, period. What they did with Mystique's character for the prequel films was fine, as that character has always had a bit of humanity in her and Days of Future Past needed to critically change things, not just for the future cast we weren't going to see anymore. Also, she has occasionally teamed up with the X-Men in the comics. Fact is, Lawrence plays a much better heroine than she does a heel. I hope she actually gets a kick ass action scene this time around (before she probably dies) as the last 3 films didn't live up to anything she did in the original trilogy.

I had no awareness of Jennifer Lawrence before I saw her in X-Men: First Class. So I didn't have any bias against the actress at all.

I thought the portrayal in First Class was okay but it got worse and worse in subsequent movies. Singer tried to make her too much like the Romijn version in DoFP, her appearance and everything else changed suddenly. And then in X:A, it felt just like watching Jennifer Lawrence and she seemed so bored.

Mystique has on occasion teamed with the X-Men but what has been done in the films feels wrong, a mischaracterisation. It's been made worse by the fact Jennifer Lawrence is unable to carry off the role with any conviction.

Also, she has occasionally teamed up with the X-Men in the comics.
And she still remained a self serving snake. That is the comic book character. The movie version is very removed from that.

Look at it this way. There have been three X-Men cartoons (not counting the anime). They were all different versions of X-Men. And yet in all of them Mystique was a villain.
