I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

But kidding aside, the movie that all the elderly flocked to this summer was easily M:I: The Final Reckoning. I was the youngest person in my screening by a good 20 years. They might as well have loaded up the collectible popcorn buckets with Werther's Originals. :o
Yeah my crowd for MI was mostly all crusty old white people.

And I trust we are all going to see Weapons next week right?

Not only am I going, I'm gonna rush into the theater bypassing the ticket booth like

The Silver Surfer looks like she’s in another banger.
Probably waiting until that one's on streaming. My wallet's been taking a beating lately so The Naked Gun and the Jaws IMAX rerelease might be my only two theater trips in August.

Man listen.

Between the FF rewatch this week and other financial expenditures I made due to FOMO, I’m drinking water and eating soup until next week. :csad:

Hello friend, have you heard of MoviePass.

I will try to see both FF again, maybe 2 more times, and Superman another time this month. Maybe I will see Weapons. Outside those, nada for me. Sorry Naked Gun fans, I just don't like spoofs

I'm not much of a fan of them myself. I don't think there's been a good spoof movie for about a quarter of a century since Scary Movie 2 but the positive reviews for this new Naked Gun have me curious.

Underwritten? You must be joking.

A mother who is not willing to sacrifice the child that she spent years waiting to have after failed attempts for the fate of the world but at the same time not willing to forego her duties as a superhero doesn’t compare to some mindless yelling about having feelings and nerves that we all knows he has to some bald, racist billionaire?

I disagree my friend, I’m sorry.
I don’t really like either speech. Both movies suffer from the public being dumb South Park mobs of easily swayed troglodytes and I don’t particularly buy Sue’s speech working. But, ultimately, it’s a situation with way more dramatic weight than Superman’s celebrity cancellation allegory (though, weirdly, FF has a bit of that too - just in a less personal and narcissistic way) so it kinda wins by default? I loved the world of FF but in general I wish it was explored a bit more and felt more three dimensional - which was probably never going to happen.

I also don’t like Superman saying he’s not an alien because that doesn’t really feel right to me if you’re making a point about Lex’s bigotry. He’s an alien AND he’s a person! He’s both! I don’t like that the movie feels he has to reject that for him to make the case he’s a person.

You're the reason why theatrical comedies are dead. :o

I love comedies. Just not this type, lol! The only spoofs I really enjoy were made by Mel Brooks many, many years ago. Outside that small handful.....meh. Just not my genre

Even with the reviews....these just are not my type of movie. So I imagine even if I liked it more than most spoofs, my enjoyment level still would be lower than most lol

BRAINIAC BRAINIAC BRAINIAC

Give him to us, James. I feel like WB has been teasing me and gaslighting me that I’ll see this character on the big screen for the past 30 years. It’s time.
Lex Luthor stages a sex tape of Superman by using a clone of Lois Lane and uploads it to Twitter via a bot farm of radioactive mutant turtles.

Weapons is a movie I am unlikely to watch in theaters. Besides, I've got Naked Gun and Shin Godzilla to see.

With some pants too.

But seriously, if Zod is the villain in the sequel I'm going to scream. :o

Alternatively, on the topic of toxic masculinity, here is a picture of Billy Gunn dwarfing Schwarzenegger:

I never realized Billy was that huge.
I met Billy Gunn in-person when I was a teen and was astonished at how big he is.

Seeing wrestlers on TV don't do them justice. In-person they really are larger than life.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle review (spoiler free)

My impression can be summed up in one word: "EPIC!!!"
Everything about the visuals, sound, story, until the OST was incredible.
I went to see it at late afternoon, and it was sold out.
I chuckled because there were so many screenings (for comparison the newly released Fantastic Four only had 1 auditorium while Demon Slayer had 6 or 7!), it was like a bullet train ride, haha.

Eventhough the movie had duration of 2,5 hours, but it felt faster than a normal movie, and again for comparison, F4: First Steps had 118 minutes but I felt the length a little, but in this movie, I havent felt the length at all...it all went at faster pace from the first minute until the end.

The amazing animation makes it worth watching within the first 5 minutes, my partner cried within the first 10 minutes (she was crying for about a third of it)...while for me, eventhough I knew it was coming, the demise of one of popular character in the series really made my heartbroken, and when the movie ended and because the way the movie ended in a cliffhanger, my initial thought was "Eh, is it over already?? I want to watch the rest!! I can watch another 255 minutes!!" Lol

The depictions of the Infinity Castle and the battles are fantastic and so intense that I couldn't blink watching the entire sequence. Infinity Castle especially is insanely huge!!! ... Eventhough I already read the original manga so many times but it was still amazing seeing the scenes, the moments, and the battles on the big screen. Seeing the whole castle sequence in IMAX is glorious!!

My only nitpick however, is the flashbacks, and the long lines and monologues, not that it effects that much but felt a little tedious. I think there was room for more changes within the scope of what fans could accept in the next final 2 installments.

Overall...Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was a mindblowing experience that properly closed off the whole movie event in July (Superman, F4, and last, Infinity Castle...I am glad I was watching it last after the former two), and I'm very happy that this series always exceeds my expectations (personally I loved it more than the Mugen Train).

10/10

I really recommend watching this movie, anime fans or not, this is an event film worth to watch. Heard it is confirmed that the movie will be released in the US cinemas on August (or September I am not sure), and I definitely recommend watching it on IMAX! (seriously that whole castle sequence in IMAX alone is worth the admission!)... But before watching it, to anyone unfamiliar with the series...I think its best to go watch the early series first to really know the world and characters. Fortunately, Demon Slayer is not a long series...you only have to follow 4 seasons of tv show (except for season 1 that consists of 26 episode, the rest are only 11,10, and 8 episodes) and 1 movie (The Mugen Train) before this final arc, that will be adapted into 3 movies and Infinity Castle is the first of the trilogy.
I really wish upon watching this series, those who were unfamilar before, would've see why this series has become huge phenomenon in Japan. Seeing the huge enthusiast from audiences from all ages as I've witnessed yesterday, it is not exaggerating to say that Demon Slayer has had more huge impact overall than the likes of Dragon Ball or dare I say, One Piece.
I'm excited! I'm seeing it opening night when it arrives here on September 12th. Too bad none of my friends watch Demon Slayer, but I don't mind going alone :funny:

You know, I've been really craving a rewatch of both Superman and First Steps, but it's just not in the cards right now. Just in August I'm planning on seeing Weapons, Freakier Friday, Bring Her Back, Eddington, and Together, so there's no moviegoing money left for rewatches. I'll catch them immediately on streaming, though!!

I want to see them again but I can hold off until the 4K disc release. Both of them are day one purchases for me and they'll more than likely be out before Halloween.
