I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

From my personal point of view, the BvS costume was about as comic accurate as you can get, but for some reason I think Pattinson's suit works better on film in terms of presence.

I loved that costume. I thought Affleck's performance in that film was good. Menacing and scary. Pattison is doing great, but I don't find him particularly menacing or scary, more freakish perhaps and gloomy...

Affleck is great in that movie but he’s sort of dopey and adorable looking in that big ass suit imo. That isn’t a bad thing, I genuinely love him in BvS, but he looks like a particularly violent rebrand of the Stay Puft Marshallow Man. Don’t think he’s anywhere near as intimidating as Keaton, Bale or Pattinson.

There was nothing intimidating about Affleck's Batman to me. He looked downright goofy in that suit imo.

To say something nice: Affleck conveys a very real, visceral sadness to me in that way which makes up for a ton of the bad writing. He says the dumbest **** with utter sincerity. A lot of that is the meta casting of the very fact it’s Ben Affleck, something I wish CBMs leaned into way harder with their casting.

The BvS suit would've been perfect for me if it had been more fitted. There's an early costume-fitting pic out there of Affleck where it was ideal. That said, Pattinson's costume works so well within the context of that film that it takes the top spot for me. The way it's shot is just beautiful to me.

None of the actors have ever looked scary though. It's still a grown man in a bat costume at the end of the day.

Every single Batman looks deeply, deeply stupid in 15-30% of their respective movies. It will always look a little dumb in live action. And that’s okay!

If we hear anything, it will be that the script is completed. Other than that, I don't expect casting news. Mostly because it's going to be pretty awkward with the trades saying an actor has been cast, only for Gunn to debunk it online and say there is no script.

Yeah we’re not going to really get the wild rumours and silly buzz phase because most of it’ll get shot down immediately. Your mileage may vary on whether that is or isn’t a good thing.

It's a wonderful thing. Straight to the trades, bypassing all the social media BS. Ahh, what bliss that'd be.

The Superman one was stressful for me but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t also loving it lol.
My thinking is: obviously sometimes it’s purely negative but also when there’s some random thing in the ether it’s something to talk about. It’s, at worst, a diverting source of hobbyist small talk.

Idk, I always thought the dumb circus was a fun stage in the journey.
I've always found it irritating, because people just pull out names out of their asses, and...

Oof, was I glad when they broke the news of Heath Ledger being cast back in the day. I was tired of the constant BS rumors.

And ever since them I really couldn't care less about the rumor mill, and just wait for actual news of offers and proper trade reports.

And now with social media and Youtube it's even worse, everyone and my grandma is a scooper.

And fellow fans have gotten dumber and dumber and they believe and repost E-VE-RY-THING as if they were an almost done deal.

And the truth is: I generally have faith and respect for filmmakers and casting directors, so it's not like a race for me where I have a favorite and I follow the process sweating, hoping that Hollywood will pick my horse at the finish line.

I like actual news. And get excited excited or cautionally curious after I get the news, and cross my fingers... Then the trailer comes and I'll form an initial idea of whether it looks interesting to me, until the movie's out... and I can finally judge it, and the choices made .

TLDR, I like facts . Gossip bores me.

I don't know, the warehouse scene was pretty intimidating. Keaton barely moved, albeit was the time of the film and coordination, Bale was good, especially Begins Bats, ( "Where were the other drugs going? SWEAR TO ME!!!" Pattison is just quiet and gloomy not really threatening ...The beginning with the street gang was good, but man...Affleck's warehouse scene. Breaking bones and splitting heads open was awesome. I'm hoping The Batman 2 he ages a bit. Still see a kid but I know that was the point...

It doesn’t help if you’re not a huge fan of Gunn being the face and central marketing focus of DC that his shooting down of rumours contributes to the exhausting sense that everything must revolve around him at all times. I don’t think he’s doing it to keep focus on him, that’s not what I’m saying, but it just adds to the atmosphere that DC is the James Gunn Show by James Gunn starring James Gunn.

I mean, they haven't really had a ton of marketing so far. Gunn being the main hype man until they fully kick off the marketing for Superman and other properties is fine by me. He has successfully helmed a number of superhero movies/tv shows, and generally seems well liked by everyone he works with.

Now if he's the central figure in the a lot of the marketing moving forward then I'll raise my eyebrow a bit, just because I'd find it strange if they found him to be more marketable than say, Corenswet.
