I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Pattison is doing great, but I don't find him particularly menacing or scary, more freakish perhaps and gloomy...
Agreed. He's a different flavour of Batman - not menacing/scary. More unnerving, gloomy, vulnerable, etc.

Still valid. Maybe not my ideal, but.

I was 110% an 'Bat-Fleck Hater' when he was announced - but the film's quality aside, Ben did great and looked amazing. That said, he's not the best Batman. And if I have to hear one more time "bUT dA WaREhOuSE sCeNe!!!!"....Yes, it was cool. But one killer scene does not a good movie or good characterization of Batman make.

The warehouse scene is neat but I’m just not a fan of grrr I break bones and put scum in hospital grrr gritty angry boy Batman. Half of why I love The Batman is it’s a three hour thesis statement on why that conception of Batman is ****ed up and toxic.

I loved that costume. I thought Affleck's performance in that film was good. Menacing and scary. Pattison is doing great, but I don't find him particularly menacing or scary, more freakish perhaps and gloomy...
Hopefully, the sequel will help with that.

With where he ends up at The Batman’s climax it’d be cool if he did the New Frontier of actually trying to be LESS overtly frightening. That maybe runs counter to the overall aesthetic they’re going for but overtly visualizing the transition from unhinged vigilante to inspirational urban folk hero would be cool.

First we heard "end of summer," now we've heard "end of year." It's next to impossible to guess as to when we can expect casting news to start when we don't even know when the thing's actually shooting. :funny:

I’m inclined to assume Pattinson is right. Though he sounds like he’s barely restraining genuine irritation so I’m not sure he has firm dates either lol

As long as the release date doesnt' get pushed back further, it's okay.

Hopefully, the sequel will help with that.
I think a lot of it, unfortunately, is Pattinson's narrow-shouldered frame and more lean-muscle look. It's hard to help with that.

But then again, Keaton is small, too. And he was definitely intimidating.

Robert is exerting Herculean levels of restraint, here. I mean, we know he is not good at having a poker-face in public about how he feels about how things are going (we've all seen his Twilight-era interviews).

The difficulty when speculating on this movie is that, realistically, it could start filming in summer of 2026 and meet it's release date of October 2027. So we could be discussing this for another year and even though everyone would believe it's cancelled, it could truly be moving forward.

Given the delay in filming, I've been wondering if we get another spinoff tv series before the film's release. There is more than enough time for that to happen and they could start filming at the top of 2026 and have something out by early 2027.

pattinson physique discourse in big year of 2025. lol.

Keaton has the crazy eyes. Something is... off with his Batman. Certainly helps with his intimidation factor.

Pattinson went for the more soulful, detached approach.

I think that's it, for me. Keaton's Batman glared through you - into your soul with a restrained anger. That's why the above image from Year One also works, too. There's a presence, an in the moment anger emanating.

Pattinson is very detached and 'kid in class who is quiet and nobody knows can kick your butt if provoked' energy. He seems very distant.

I prefer the former - but everyone's mileage may vary. I'd like to see him develop more in terms of being a bit more intimidating. Not just for personal preference, but as a story/character beat.

^He's unrecognizable as Oz, so it still leaves the door open. Also, isn't this a period piece.

I'm gonna be kind to myself and assume that just means they don't have locked in dates yet. Which makes sense.

Only now?
I'm pretty cynical about all this but you'd think they would have killed this movie several times over instead of waiting until the first time the cast seems to have an idea of when it's filming and what it's about.
