I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Man this is reminding me of when Ben kept saying he was directing The Batman until he wasn’t …

People in Hollywood lie all the time, we’ll see what happens.

I think The Batman II has a better chance of being good than TBATB, but WB/DC are placing all their bets on the new DCU. I still think it’s cannibalism to release two concurrent Batman live action movie series. If I were them, I’d let The Batman II fall apart and focus on DCU Batman.

I can’t help but think that in addition to Reeves’ personal issues, part of the delay stems from confusion at the studio as to what live action Batman plans look like going forward. Two movie series? Consolidate TB into the DCU? Cancel TB2? It’s just a wild situation they’re in, and it’s all their fault. They’re in a mess and they deserve it.

The delays of The Batman II have created even more of an issue in terms of the "2 Batman series" idea. It'd be one thing if this move was released in 2025, and then TBATB (DCU) released in 2028. But with The Batman II not coming until 2027 at the earliest (if at all), what does this mean for TBATB? Do they delay the debut of the DCU's Batman even further to give some breathing room between the two Batman films? Or do they say **** it and decide to introduce their DCU Batman right around the same time anyway? How long can they wait to introduce Batman into the DCU?

I don't envy WB/DC when it comes to this situation. As much as I want to see The Batman II rather than the new DCU Batman, I totally understand why this whole situation could be causing infighting or confusion within the studio.

Sadly, "The Batman" is a film/franchise stuck between two universes - the DCEU and DCU.

I suspect , that if Superman is a big hit, and connects with general audiences, the studio may feel like they can slow their roll a bit on introducing a DCU Batman , and/ or let things work themselves out with The Batman: Part II.

However, if Superman basically performs like Man Of Steel or Superman Returns, box office wise, and gets a meh or polarized reception, I do think that introducing the DCU Batman, or putting out another Batman film (be it Elseworlds or DCU ) will become a priority.

In other words, I think they'll want a new Batman film asap.

But I'm speculating .

They're already letting things work themselves out as far as we know. It's the Internet that keeps creating drama.

The DCEU is not relevant to anything they're doing w Reeves' work.

Which is a great thing. They have their own flair and remind me of some of the darker or grungier Batman comics. I wouldn't mind seeing Court of Owls as a villain group in a Reeves future Batman film.

There in lies the rub .

The reality is we don't really know for certain, what's going on with either Batman project .

As someone on the outside, I'm not claiming to know either way what the status of either Batman project is .

Nothing is guaranteed , and we won't really know , for certain, when The Batman II gets up and running, until it actually begins filming.

At the same time, we won't know how the studio will respond if Superman is or isn't a hit.

Plans change , and I doubt that Superman's performance won't play a factor in alot of the future of their projects, Elseworlds or not, including when we could get another Batman appearance, or film.

Supergirl and Lanterns, Peacemaker Season 2 are already in production , so , the train has already left the station for them .

But I do suspect the general audiences response to Superman performance will influence how they move forward with some of the other projects .

Other's may disagree, and that's fair enough.

Superman will be a big disappointment at the box office

WB will go running back to Batman like they always do

We're audience members and not Hollywood insiders - even though many like to pretend that they are. That's why we wait for official news and live our lives in the meantime.

I never claimed we were Hollywood Insiders , and even Hollywood Insiders can come to the wrong conclusion about information, or get bad info.

In this case, the specific audience we're talking about, is a portion fandom , and it isn't a monolith .

In this case we're talking about a portion of fans who either wish to speculate or don't wish to speculate .

Whether fan speculation should or should happen in this instance, is a matter of opinion .

Those who want to wait for official information are going to do that .

Those who may want to speculate or theorize about Gunn or the studios next moves are regarding The Batman II or BATB , going to do that online ,as well.

I don't see the benefit of being involved with drama created by news that haven't even been reported / confirmed by proper journalistic sources.

Either TB2 gets cancelled (which they're not gonna do cuz The Batman was an absurd profit), or they delay DCU Batman's first appearance. There's inevitably gonna be a DCU Justice League, they can easily just cast DCU Batman when that movie goes full steam ahead and do BATB afterwards. And it ain't like similar stuff to that hasn't happened, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk was in a movie 4 years after Norton, which sounds relatively realistic to when I'd guess a Justice League movie gets made.

It's interesting that only THR has the detail that this is supposed to start production in the Fall.

Yeah, Rob stays booked; but depending on his contracts, he could drop out of whichever other movie he's attached to and film TB2, if necessary.
?

I don't see any mention of that in the article.
