I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Apparently the Production Weekly stuff for the first movie didn't have Reeves listed as director either.

Maybe the movie doesn't happen but if Reeves dropped out they simply probably wouldn't be making it. Prod Weekly is fairly legit but they're not the ones who are gonna get this scoop lol

If Reeves were to give the go ahead to a director of his choosing I would be fine with it.

Keep in mind production weekly isn't always accurate. But this would not shock me, it was a successful film followed up by a successful TV show. Zaslav wants to focus on their IP with DC being a top priority. There is no doubt in my mind that they want some form of this iteration to continue if it can.

Also, the Production Weekly's description shows the synopsis for the first film. Though that could be a mere oversight?

Not that I'd put it past Riddler to escape from prison and do the same thing over again.

As silly as it seems, them bat emojis on Reeves' birthday tweet is all we got and i'll lean on that over anything else. That production sheet says March start, which would still give them ~year in post. That timeline of Pattinson likely doing Messiah into the end of the year gives them plenty of time.

I honestly just don't see Reeves not directing this film.

It’s a very strange spot to be in where the lack of news feels worrying but also they have a massive, massive amount of time before it’s any sort of actual problem for making that release date. We could hear literally nothing to the end of the year and technically it could be all good, I’d probably go into the mindset that it isn’t happening if we get there just to avoid disappointment but it’s entirely possible.

A march start actually makes more sense given the October 2027 release date.

On that timeline, September is when preproduction would have to start if it's 6 months prior.

How mad would you guys be if The Batman 2 fell apart and they dropped this on us instead:

Not vibing that combo, fam.

And yeah, if Reeves were to step down as director they might as well cancel the entire thing.

Eggers doing franchise work is instant misery. No matter what it is. Even Nosferatu felt like a bit of a sidetrack waste of time to me.

Jake is my dream Batman though so that’d be a balm.

My dream in this crummy scenario would be Mike Flanagan or Ryan Coogler.

That mother****er would make a nolan tier batman movie(s) I swear to god.

Top tier talent. If you look at his filmography though he's more interested in movies with a predominately black cast which is all well and fine I just dont think he'd want to do batman in that case.

I don't think he'd want to do it either. But it would be something special.

He could do John Ridley's Future State Batman.

I'm one of those who believes The Batman Part II is still having various development troubles, but I don't think we should be seeing any signs of cancellation just yet either.

1. The Production Weekly story doesn't mean much, it's not the first time we've seen this kind of publication be incomplete or inaccurate.
2. Warner and DC have a LOT riding on Superman which is about to be released in only a few months. They won't take any risks of having the spotlight stolen by any Batman update, whether good or bad.
3. With the release date pushed back by over two years, there is indeed a scenario in which the film can begin global production next autumn/winter without needing to rush anything and therefore, without needing to announce anything right now anyway.

I'd say the month where we should have any update about this film is August.

The golden rule is to just wait for official news, bad or good , and just go on with our lives. It doesn't make sense to get so invested in rumors and ifs.

This is Hollywood, and there are no guarantees.

So, I'll wait to see how things shake out .

new user here. Matt Reeves signed on in 2017. it took 2 years to get a blip of info on The Batman (yea for 2 years, people thought Ben Affleck was playing him still). I liked the batman alot, was it worth the wait for 5 years + another 5 to continue the story, thats a No for me.

Batman is my favorite by far but im sorry, any of the seasons of Daredevil has been better then any Batman live action content IMO. If Matt Reeves cant do this, he should never have took this on. Where is WB (his employer) pushing him to finish this
What makes you think that he KNEW he wouldn’t be able to finish the job?
We don’t have a timeline for any of this.
Heck we still don’t know what “ this” IS!

I can’t take his opinion seriously saying that an mcu Netflix show is better than all live action batmen

Daredevil was genuinely a masterpiece tho. Can't say the same for Born Again but...

Yeah, the original show was great. A lot of elements would be put into my ideal Batman live action show.

Man this is reminding me of when Ben kept saying he was directing The Batman until he wasn’t …

People in Hollywood lie all the time, we’ll see what happens.

I think The Batman II has a better chance of being good than TBATB, but WB/DC are placing all their bets on the new DCU. I still think it’s cannibalism to release two concurrent Batman live action movie series. If I were them, I’d let The Batman II fall apart and focus on DCU Batman.

I can’t help but think that in addition to Reeves’ personal issues, part of the delay stems from confusion at the studio as to what live action Batman plans look like going forward. Two movie series? Consolidate TB into the DCU? Cancel TB2? It’s just a wild situation they’re in, and it’s all their fault. They’re in a mess and they deserve it.

Reeves Batman movies are basically "elseworlds", and Gunn said he is committed to doing elseworlds along with the DCU stuff. So that means we are going to get other versions of a lot of these characters, not just Batman.
