I have the Spike version DVR'd and plan to watch it soon, but based on shauner's comments now I'm wondering if I should just seek out the full version.

Just out of curiosity, did people prefer the Joker with shorter hair (Gambol scene, interrogation scene) or with longer hair (hospital scene, finale)?

Well let me put it this way.

If Nolan was more of a stickler for continuity, and his hair was a consistent length throughout the film, which look would be your preference?

I for one thought he looked best in the penthouse scene.

I liked that his appearance, through the hair and the makeup, had slight variations every time you saw him. It was visually concordant with his chaotic nature.

Probably the Penthouse look. Also when he's in the holding cells, too.

It's funny because I really liked how Heath's hair looked on the Empire Magazine cover, however its rarely seen in that swept back kind of way in the film. Penthouse is good. I also liked how he looked makeup and hair wise in the mob scene.

It's funny you mention the Empire cover, because that is my all-time favorite photo of Heath's Joker. The swept-back hair was great. Wish he looked like that more in the film.

Actually I think what he meant there was that he felt privileged that they were the only three people on earth who got to see his full performance and know how special it was before he passed- essentially knowing that his death didn't color their perception of it. I think that's kind of a sly shot at the people who claim the hype and Oscar win were partially fueled by the tragic circumstances.

As for your question about which Heath Joker look I prefer, this one all the way for me:

I love the Empire cover too, but the way it's lit in the film gives his hair that darker, dirty green look that I always enjoy on the character. Seeing him center-framed between the bars reminds me of this too:

I dont see a general discussion thread anymore, but happy 9th birthday to TDK. Came out on this date 9 years ago today. I remember I saw it 3 times in the theater and then got a really good copy I watched on my laptop over and over. Still my favorite CBM. A masterpiece.

Damn I didn't have the time to do that many times, I had to work a lot of night shifts.

At the time, I worked in sales, and was on the road about 10-14 days a month. So when I was in a hotel out of town, I would find a theater and go see it.

That makes sense, easier for you to do that.

I'm still gutted I never got a chance to see this in IMAX. Maybe there will be a re-release someday.

I never got to see it or TDKR in IMAX, so I would like to see both.

Oh my god, there's nothing like seeing a Nolan film shot on Imax in a real Imax theater. Jaw dropping. Both prologues for the Batman movies were INSANE in Imax.

I watched this one on an ordinary screen and TDKR in IMAX. TDKR was my first IMAX film.
