Dude, did you see the same movie or what? TWIST NEVER MADE HIS MOVE WHILE DEL MAR WAS ASLEEP.

They were BOTH asleep, and it was freezing cold, and Twist IN HIS SLEEP, UNCONSCIOUS snuggled up to Del Mar. Then Del Mar WOKE UP, THREW OFF HIS ARM, and JUMPED AWAY, which then WOKE UP TWIST.

I was under the impression Twist was awake. I've gotten that impression every time I've seen it.

But, if Twist was unconscious, then maybe that changes things.

Just a tad. Plus being in the freezing ass cold and wanting to snuggle up to a warm body changes things. Thats just a human thing to do, not a sexual thing to do ... if Del Mar wasn't so utterly repressed, he wouldn't have freaked out like that, because it's not like having someone next to you, or their arm on top of your arm while you're asleep on a freezing mountain is some predatory sexual nasty thing to do. It's not like he started taking off his pants or something after getting him drunk for goodness sake.

To be fair, I don't know any straight male that would react any other way to that type of thing. Non-sexual or not.

Hell, holding hands is completely off-limits, as innocent as that may seem.

see this is why i dont use the ignore button. i didnt want to fan the flames but um wrong is wrong. i wont link to the scene (cause there is implied sex and i dont want an infraction) but you tube is your friend. if you are going to belittle someone else over something you should probably get your facts straight.

twist was not asleep and del mars hand was erm...i could see where someone might think it is implied that jack puts ennis' hand where he might not want it. go watch the scene. jack is awake and while not quite predatory he is pretty forward there.

Wow, was that really how it happened? I hadn't seen it in a while, so I just took his word for it that Ennis was sleep. :o

thats not what happened. jman has a point if you re watch the scene in that context. BFs description is fairly inaccurate.

Because they were both asleep, and no one did anything to anyone else while they were asleep?

re watch the scene. thats not how it happened. sorry.

im pretty sure he is awake when he rolls over, grabs ennis' hand, rolls back over and puts said hand where he does. i still dont see anything wrong personally but i can see how the scene is open to some interpretation. jack definately makes a move though.

you are a bit off. just a tad.:cwink:

"He was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid-back. Certainly there was this great anarchistic streak to it — just getting dirtier than anybody's envisioned the Joker before. … Naturally, (the movie) was something I wanted to share with him — and expected to do so. And I can't do anything else but hope that it will be an absolutely appropriate celebration of his work." — Christian Bale in Details, on newsstands June 3, about his Dark Knight co-star, the late Heath Ledger.

I think that only shows the rampant homophobia in the country ;) I know that if I was on a freezing mtn with a girlfriend, and woke up to find her snoring into my neck, huddled up against my back, I wouldn't be freaking out, like a guy might.

But anyway, that aside, in the film it was not a sexual advance on an unsuspecting, sleeping person.

Hopefully, you'd be a little excited.

Saw BBM on TV the other night. God, Jake and Heath (particularly) are excellent. Such a sad movie, though. But really touching. Should have walked away with the Oscar, sorry 'Crash'.

Thanks for posting!

That Bale sure is a classy fellow.

Well again, guys react very differently towards one another than girls do. Girls are usually much more forgiving or understanding with a one-on-one experience.

I wouldn't necessarily call it homophobic either. I'm completely secure about my sexuality, but I would be uncomfortable if another male just came up on me unsuspectingly.

I so badly wanted those 2 to talk about the film together. It's such a shame.

It's not necessarily homophobia, straight girls tend to be more comfortable with physical closeness and affection with each other than straight guys are.

Hell, I'm gay and I wouldn't be comfortable with most guys I know cuddling up against me and putting an arm around me or whatever.

you're a woman? okay then you're talking about two totally different things then and I think you know it :whatever:. cuddling up to your mate because you're cold is just not cool. "but dude we're on a mountain" nah, slap, I don't think so buddy :yay:. Havn't you seen City Slickers?

Wow...this "scene debate" is still going on?

Bale speaks

Ledger 'laid back' before death

May 28, 2008 - 11:44AM

Batman actor Christian Bale says his co-star Heath Ledger was in a calm mood before his shocking death earlier this year.

Some reports have suggested the Perth-born Ledger's edgy portrayal of the Joker in the forthcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight, had left him unbalanced.

"He was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid back," Bale, 34, tells US magazine Details in an interview for its forthcoming issue.

Ledger, 28, was found dead on January 22 in New York City of an accidental overdose of prescription pills shortly after speaking about how playing the Joker had tormented him, and he couldn't sleep during the filming of The Dark Knight.

Bale said Ledger's portrayal of the well-known Joker character was different to previous incarnations, including that created by Jack Nicholson.

"Certainly there was this great anarchistic streak to it - just getting dirtier than anybody's envisioned the Joker before," Bale said.

"This character has power because he has no limits, absolutely nothing to lose."

Bale said he was saddened that Ledger would not see the film, but hoped it would be a tribute to his career.

"Naturally it was something I wanted to share with him - and expected to do so," he said.

"And I can't do anything else but hope that it will be an absolutely appropriate celebration of his work."

The Dark Knight is scheduled for release in Australia on July 17.

Okay but we're talking about someone doing it unconsciously in their sleep, not on purpose to freak you out or something. People do funny things while they're sleeping, and it's perfectly natural if your cold and unconscious to seek a source of warmth.

So I would expect at least SOME understanding that it wasnt on purpose if the person being snuggled up to woke up and saw that the other person was just snoring away, probably dreaming of being home with the wife or whatever.

I know... I'm really sad that all the interviews Ledger gave about playing the Joker were before the film was out so he couldn't really say much or reveal anything. I would have loved to hear his thoughts on the final cut, share more stories about what happened on the set, hear his commentary on the DVD....

that is clearly not what happened on screen though.

Are they really still reporting this, I mean come on!

I also am very sad that we will not be seeing heath do the press junket for tdk, such a shame.

ha ha. j/k. this is was always rather silly wasn't it

BS. He said it was the most fun he'd ever had with any role, and certainly didn't say it "tormented him". This is the most ridiculous flat-out made up crap the media has ever come up with in recent memory, and it's disgusting that they're still running with it and making people think this.

Where are the mods to get this thread back on track?
They usually ride right into to save the day if someone posts an article twice. How about letting these two continue their battle somewhere else?
This is a Ledger appreciate thread and while the scene in questions deals with Ledger's acting prowess, I for one am sick of reading about their squabble.

Christian Bale has described Heath Ledger's performance in the new Batman movie as "incredibly intense".

Bale said the late actor's portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight will serve as a fitting celebration of his career.

He told Details magazine: "He was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid back.

"Certainly there was this great anarchistic streak to it - just getting dirtier than anybody's envisioned The Joker before."

He added: "Naturally it was something I wanted to share with him. I can't do anything else but hope that it will be an absolutely appropriate celebration of his work."

Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in January, aged 28.

The Brokeback scene:

I don't think the scene is completely convincing -- Ennis goes from zero to 60 waaaaaaaaaaaaayyy too fast -- but I think that's what happened. Ennis tries to throw his hand off, there's a brief struggle, and then Ennis goes with it.

I don't know if "predatory" is the right word for it, but "insistent" would certainly apply.

Maybe Ennis was repressed? Maybe he was waiting for Jack to make the right move all along? Who knows. Obviously, Jack made his move, Ennis returned the favor, and the rest was history.

Having re-watched the scene, though, I can definitely say that it most certainly appears as though Jack was awake when he initiated this romance.

Yeah, he was awake.

The very first time you see Jack, he's checking Ennis out in the mirror, and it definitely reads as sexual, because he's sort of sneaking a look. But that vibe doesn't carry through -- there doesn't seem to be any sort of seduction going on through the later scenes; more like just "getting to know you" stuff. The closest there is to anything romantic is when Twist says something about how Ennis finally starts talking, something about how "that's more words than you've said since we've been here" or whatever, and Ennis gets a little embarrassed.

So when did Jack feel like he got the go-ahead? These two are going to be isolated for however long, so he definitely wouldn't want to do something so alienating as to come on to a straight guy and get rejected (or worse). In fact, that night, Ennis is adamant about not being in the tent with him, which -- you may have your theory about someone being repressed or whatever -- but that hardly screams "let's have sex." So even when Twist does coax him inside, it seems like if he were going to make a pass at him, it wouldn't be something so overt, and it would almost surely be something more deferential than "grab my crotch," right? And then to have a few-seconds' struggle and then Ennis to be down with it -- it just doesn't make sense to me. Doesn't seem right.

The reunion kiss made sense and I fully believed that, except that someone would be so stupid to do that in broad daylight (under the circumstances). But the tent scene just doesn't work. I know for the sake of plot, you have to get from A to B, but maybe Gylenhaal (sp?) could have sold it more by trying to seduce him little by little through the earlier scenes, and for us to see some growing attraction, instead of just BAM.

All right. I have now officially thought about this way too much. :D
