Interstellar - Part 3

Neither were big stars in blockbusters though. Page had X-Men and Inception, but she was not a big draw in either. JGL had TDKR and Inception and...are we counting GI Joe here? :funny:

(500) Days of Summer were Juno was well-known but not big movies. Not to the point where everyone would have seen them.

I saw an LATimes version of the Paramount news, on Twitter. The title was something akin to "Paramount makes exception to digital movies rules" and my VERY FIRST THOUGHT was, "Nolan! :awesome: "

And yeah, the discussion about digital with Nolan was probably 10 milliseconds long. :hehe:

Oh I thought we were talking about now. Back when Inception came out, I'd agree.

To be honest though, I never care for these pissing contests about who's a so-called "A-lister", "B-lister", etc. For one, what makes somebody one or the other seems arbitrary and depending on who you ask, and for two, at least in a lot of cases, it has nothing to do with who the better actor is.

Most of it is how famous you are thanks to paparazzi headlines than anything else. :oldrazz:

Lindsay Lohan has done f***-all for years, but everyone still knows who she is because her antics always ends up in headlines.

I guess my own definition of "A-lister" is someone who has the freedom to do the kind of work they want. I think most everyone who's acted in Nolan's films (aside from Aaron Eckhart :csad: and Katie Holmes :oldrazz: ) could count themselves in that esteemed group.

When I hear "B-lister" or "C-lister," the first thought that comes to mind is desperation. Someone who's scrabbling to get attention from casting agents, and taking low-bar films because they can't get the work they want.

The casts between the two don't matter because Interstellar has McConaghey during the McConanassiance so instant win

I have no idea who JGL is. I only know RJB - Robin John Blake.

Let's be honest, though. People didn't flock to see Inception because of Leonardo DiCaprio. It had loads of money due to the insane word of mouth and because it was directed by the dude who directed that billion dollar Batman movie with the Joker in it.

Very true, but now that Nolan is a household name he's the guy he directed the TDK Trilogy, Inception and resurrected Superman.

Oh yeah, as much as some don't want to admit, Nolan is this generations Spielberg. Warner Bros will bend over backwards for him. Clearly it's a treat for us movie fans but I can only imagine how awesome that is as a director.

I guess its kind of nebulous to me.

Like, I wouldn't consider Tom Hardy an A lister, but he's not desperate or struggling for offers either, and generally seems to do whatever the hell he wants.

I think having a star like Leo definitely helped Inception on the international market at least. Look at The Wolf of Wall Street. That movie is doing better outside America. I know that many people here in Sweden still looks confused if I ask them if they know who Christopher Nolan is. Leo on the other hand is definitely one of the biggest stars at the moment.

Interstellar's demographic appeal will be broad, it has a huge cast of stars (A-list/B-list/whatever you want to call them) that can promote it non-stop, a leading man whose career is currently peaking, and with Nolan's name attached every geek/hipster/college kid in the world will see it, even if only so they can have an informed opinion on it. As long as the full theatrical trailer does its job (i think Inception's trailers intrigued the masses and got their butts in the seats), it will make a ton of money.

I'm just wondering what the scope of the movie will actually be. "Scope" isn't even the right word. Maybe "tone". I don't know. I'm wondering what the aura will be. I wonder what the movie will be. Right now with the teaser trailer, I'm getting an Apollo 13 / Ron Howard vibe, but I'm wondering if it's more of an E.T./Close Encounters type of film. You know what I mean? Not the scope or tone, but just the essence of the film - the feel of it?

The script definitely feels like all of those things. How it "feels" on the page, it's kind of a Spielberg/Ron Howard thing, while also having an Inception vibe.

So, Close Encounters / E.T. / Apollo 13 / Inception.

^ And I'll probably kick myself if I don't add Contact to the list, and just Robert Zemeckis's fingerprints in general.

Any idea when the next trailer will be released?

I would guess sometime in March/April. I don't see them putting a new trailer with any summer movies because 1) that seems too late for a second trailer for a movie that is fast approaching in November, and 2) they need time to release the final trailer sometime in September.

I'd say we have an 8-12 week wait for something.

Ok, so we are in for a bit of a wait.

Unless they surprise us out of nowhere and give us something around March 1, which is 4 weeks from now.

Hollywood doesn't seem to really give a damn about posters anymore (and when they do, they're cobbled together and released a week before the movie comes out), so that's probably not something to get excited for anytime soon.

Anybody watch True Detective? every now and then it has some shots that reminded me of the Interstellar teaser.

I had that aswell. Especially at last Sunday's episode when he went back to the farmer's field.

I'm watching it right now. Matthew is truly something else. He's going to kill it in Interstellar.

Gary Oldman needs to get in touch with McConaughey's agent :o.
