Interstellar - Part 4

A lot of the general audience doesn't like that kind of stuff though. That's why so many hard sci-fi movies struggle to make back their budgets. Nolan is really going to have to nail the execution of it.

After reading the spoilers, I definitely see why he felt the need for an "everyman" actor like McConaughey. He needed someone the audience could relate to as they are taken through this bizarre, hard sci-fi story.

We'll see about the film's success. Maybe we should stop worrying about the public so much. I know that's the non-fanboy thing to do, but sometimes the public can surprise you. Like you, I want original films, especially ones that are HARD sci-fi to succeed. It only helps out the business and implores more original, forward thinking projects. (Just like how Ridley Scott's The Martian was probably green lit thanks to Gravity.)

Also, the movie's not out yet. There's plenty of time to 'ramp' up the ads IF need be.

Yeah, it's still a long way to go. Avatar didn't even have its first trailer until 4 months from release. Interstellar already has 2 trailers and it's still nearly 6 months from release.

I don't see why this film wouldn't be a huge hit? It can survive alongside Mockingjay just fine if it's a good film.

I love the space shots. They feel completely authentic. Eluding the teal and blue sweeping shots filled with the lens flares of conventional Hollywood. Going instead for a more documentary style. Expectedly, some people hate it for that very reason.

I finally saw the trailer and I thought it was nailed perfectly. I don't see what's dull or pompous about it.

Exploration into the unknown. The inevitability of Mankind's and Earth's 'destiny'.

That's what sold to me.

Exactly the concept alone is enough to bring me in I can't see how people can think it's dull or boring.

Yes and yes, very intriguing and has my full attention. Nothing about it seems boring,

Welp. My wife is due on Nov. 6th. A midnight showing is toss up at this point. haha

In addition to the quality of his films Nolan puts out some of the best trailers around. I doubt he makes the trailers himself but I'm sure he has a lot of control over what is shown.

@slumcat: drop it dude, you just don't get any of this. Like giving me the example of Slumdog Millionaire, I mean, seriously. You just seem like you enjoy pretending you know something about it when you don't.
There is nothing to drop here because there was nothing credible going on in the first place. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. No idea what cinematography is, what independent cinema is, and perhaps even what cinema is.

An observation that footage from the trailer looks like from an independent film somehow personally offended you (PERSONALLY!!!!!!!), as if it were some greatest insult flung at you and not just an assertive observation about a movie.

This is what gets me about fanboys - this absolutely lunatic reductive quality of a pointless conversation taken as far as splitting heairs without anything meaningful to add. I doubt you can participate in any sane discussion, perhaps you can only participate in singing hosannas for your object of paramour - Nolan.

I henceforth shall be more judicious in who to respond to.

Okay you guys. We're here for fun.

BTW, Slumcat, I don't know if anyone can have sane and meaningful discussion on the artistic merits of 'Legends of Hercules'. Yes, I'm bringing that up again. HHHHHaAAHAHAHA

You've got to do what's important man.

Go see Interstellar. Your wife will still be there.

:funny: if he did that and she was still there, then you know that's a keeper for sure. Wife of the year.

I seriously doubt it's going to bomb, at worse it's just going to disappoint and underperform, but i think if the film is genuinely good, the studio will want that spread around everywhere, that early buzz will get it going and WOM will probably get this to Inception numbers.

However if they really are following the 2008 script, all Nolan would have to do is sneak in a few money shots in the end, and watch the film hurtle towards a billion. Although i think at this point in time, the cast, nolan and the mentions of inception/dark knight trilogy is going to save this from actually being a flop.

Why are some people so preoccupied with money in the industry ? Are you financial advisors of Nolan ? Maybe studio producers ? :woot:

I know films have to make money. Good filmmakers need to have sucesses so they can keep doing what they want but...that's their concern. Not the audience.

Just enjoy the ride.

That's true. The trailer make it seem like some sort of 2001 Space Odyssey. That movie isn't exactly beloved the world over. Half hold it as some masterpiece, the other half say it's too boring.

The hell ?

2001 was a huge success when released. Like. top 3 in the year.

Today is regarded by many people (including me) as the greatest motion picture ever. If that aint being beloved...

Seeing the trailer the first time, I was surprised because I did not expect it to start like that. I know have it in a loop, it looks like it has a huge heart, Murph-Cooper bits already stealing my heart, goddam

Exactly. So many are always worried and concerned with box office numbers. I don't ****ing care haha. If it does well then yeah it's more likely for a sequel so I guess that's why people worry. But so what? If not you still have the first film.

Bomb really? Even if you assume a $300 million budget, I don't see this making less than that, not unless it scores teens for it's RT meter and got poor cinemascores. Also, I doubt THG will give this film a major beating... they're pretty much on the near opposite ends of the demographic scale and the box office isn't a zero-sum game.
