It means Nolan doesn't really care about Oscar buzz and awards ceremonies. He does what he wants. Warners/Paramount are probably pushing the film to be an early contender, hence releasing it in November (4th quarter - Awards Season). I'm sure Nolan wouldn't have cared if it was a Summer release like his previous three films.

Nolan is also obsessed with preventing spoilers.

Yeah in an interview with Tom Hardy an interviewer brought it up and he said he doesn't have email or a phone and likes only face to face conversations. Obviously he's likely to have one as he'd need to be able to contact people but he'd rarely use it.

There's such a negative connotation with awards campaigning and I know it's cool to think that Nolan doesn't given a **** about awards but I actually think he is starting to care about awards. Even just a little... :funny: I remember being surprised that he was in all the screenings/Q&A for the guild members for TDKR. I'm not saying that he'll be one of those crazy awards beggar types but I definitely think that he'll be active in the awards campaign for Interstellar. And there's really nothing wrong with that as long as it's not overboard.
 
Whoa, they need to tread carefully with the Russian stuff.
 
Yeah I'm sure Nolan like 99% of people would like to have his work recognized by his peers.
 
He's, like, so hipster and stuff.

I bet he writes his scripts on a typewriter.

They campaigned the **** out of TDKR. It was definitely one of the most campaigned movies that year. Parties and screenings around the place and a sentiment that Nolan was somehow "due". The marketplace was flooded by FYC ads. They thought that it would win the Best Picture like LOTR perhaps.

And the result? The Academy spat in its face and WB landed with a big fat egg on their face as the film failed to get even a single nomination!

Yeah the FYC TDKR campaign surprised me a little. I personally loved the film but the film never looked like an oscar contender other than in the technical categorys. At best it probably could have got Cinematography. However it wasnt as strong as its predecessor both critically and publicly nor did it affect the film world as much as TDK did. It was never gonna get a thing.

Not a single nomination did seem a hell of a snub though especially with the lengths Nolan went with in-camera effects.

The snubbing of TDK though still blows me away.
 
It was that snubbing that changed the Oscars forever. I guess that's a small victory.
