Yeah, those roundtables are great. I hope it gets posted soon.

The next couple of weeks will be crazy. There will be hyperbole. There will also be those who don't love it, causing people to freak out and panic. That's already happening now over at Nolanfaps due to the "depressing" tweet (that reaction was from a little girl btw).

fandom is, by definition, something of a crazy thing.

who the heck cares if a person finds the movie depressing, especially if that person still thinks it's good?

i mean, what.

i write criticism for a couple places so i'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to talking this way sometimes...but wth is this guy talking about? "an angry, Heinlein-influenced rebuttal" to 2001? i mean, i haven't seen the movie, but somehow i doubt that's a very apt summation from what i do know of it. i could be wrong, though, i guess.

That's kind of what I'm talking about though in regards to us who haven't seen the film yet projecting what we think it will be vs. what it actually may be. The fact is we don't really know what Nolan is going to be trying to express with this film, and the in fact the very reason he values secrecy so much is because he wants the film to speak for itself.

Well yeah, that whole thing is ridiculous.

He's trying to say that 2001 is false, in that Kubrick didn't fake the moon landing, Nolan actually did. Except Nolan did it with light poems and gravity and stuff...

Dazzled by the ambition & intelligence of Chris Nolan's INTERSTELLAR. Terrific performances, haunting imagery, WOW. See it in 70MM IMAX.

i love Brad Bird and i love his reaction to Interstellar.

i definitely grant you that but, man, if dude's description actually is on-point, wow, all the PR on this movie has TOTALLY misrepresented it. which is certainly possible, and i'm game for whatever, as long as it's good.

Agreed.

Alright, so we've got PTA, Wright and now Bird raving. You know who's reaction I'm especially interested in though? Spielberg's.

The entire director's guild can praise it and a certain member will still remind us that TDKR got the same pre-release hype (even though it didn't) and that it will end up being like TDKR.

I'm looking forward to Cameron's reaction tbh.

Matthew MCconaughey was flying starships way before he got paid to fly one, he just likes how it feels.

Brad mommaflippin' Bird likes the movie? I'm definitely going to see it.

[Note: this post does not contain sarcasm]

Bird is a sign of quality. Even though i dont think mission impossible 4 was a masterpice, his work in animation is stellar, so if he liked it that's a good sign

I think Bird is great, but they had me at PTA.

I can now tell you guys that I know a few people who have seen INTERSTELLAR. Most loved it, one really disliked it.

Please dont be one of the films where "it wasn't great" turns into "HOLY **** IT WAS SOOOO BAD".

Screening for #Interstellar was great. So proud of Chris. Loved every image on the @IMAX screen. 70mm folks... 70mm

If Intetstellar has any content then it's guaranteed that a few will hate it. That which is meaningful can't be universally loved.

Obviously people will hate it. But with many recent big movies nothing is ever "it wasnt great" people exaggerate and anything remotely disappointing turns into "WORST FING EVA!!".

I just sit around waiting for an Armond White review...his contrarian and exact opposite feelings of how I feel about a film (and Nolan), is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I'm unreasonably angry right now. A friend of mine called our local IMAX (Union Station KC) and asked if they'd be playing Interstellar... No.
You know what they're playing right now?Alexander
and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
WHAT A WASTE OF AN IMAX SCREEN!!!!!!!:cmad::cmad::cmad:

Aw, Wally.

Can I say that other than a few very specific lighting choices, the film wouldn't look all that different if Wally filmed it?

Nolan has a noticeable visual style. The shot selection seems to be classic Nolan that you could trace back to Following.
